White beard and Zeff is actually so cute.

Like imagine Zeff leaving the Baratie in Patty and Carne's hands to be with his husband during treatment. To make sure he's healing properly and to hold him when chemo gets though.

White beard hears Zeff call himself his husband for the first time when he's telling him how he didn't have to come all the way to the grand line for him "My husband needs me I'm not the type to let you fight this on your own love"

Like imagine the crew being kind of lukewarm on Zeff for being the man that keeps stealing their captain but one week of eating good food and watching their captain get spoiled makes them love the man. They never felt stronger than eating Zeff's food every day.

Also imagine him getting bullied and bribed into following treatment like:

"I know you don't fell like eating love , but if you can finish at least half of that plate you can have me for the afternoon"

"Go into that fight and you are not touching me for a week"

I keep imagining Zeff calling him Edward softly and everyone in the room felling the sudden urge to leave.

Also because I can't help talking about Sanji I like to think he grew up watching these tactics and implements them on Zoro and Luffy to great success

I love old men in long love stories. I love it so fucking much.

Also, White Beard has like stage four cancer at Marineford and has been putting off treatments in canon forever so imagine Marco at the end of his rope, calling Zeff and going 'you're husband is a fucking moron refusing cancer treatment!' and Zeff handing Baratie over to Sanji, Patty, and Carne like some years before Luffy destroys the place. Showing up with a skeleton crew Marco sent only to go straight to White Beard's office and start laying into his fucking husband for dicking around with his health. White Beard is very confused because no one told him and now he's holding his husband, crying, apologising, and listening to the doctors and nurses aboard the ship. Zeff does not escape either because he needs to set an example no matter how much he detests it.

Sanji receives calls from his adopted dad and hears their conversations when Zeff puts the denden down to deal with the emperor being clingy. It's disgustingly adorable and Sanji is always wishing for a love like that. Sanji also still has skeleton crews come check on the place, Izou is a pretty common one to join them and check on Sanji and the others personally. Sanji doesn't know if Zeff sends the crossdresser or if Izou is really just that fond of his cooking, but he deals. Izou's nice, pats his head when he passes by at the end of the day to go to sleep. Izou always gives his report to Zeff when he gets back, a little smirk on his painted lips as Marco and the other's grumble about not meeting their step brother basically.

Zeff still has to sway his husband to listen to the medical professionals though or follow the diet he and Thatch came up with. White Beard is going through Hell with his treatment and his kicked puppy look ain't working on his husband who has to either sweet talk the man into listening for a reward or just straight threatening him. No in between. 'Love, you gotta eat or I'm going to have your doctor boy shove a tube up your nose to make sure I keep you fed.', 'You can have me all week, I'll leave it to Thatch if you can eat half that.', and 'I SWEAR TO THE FUCKING LOCKER NEWGATE IF YOU GET INTO THAT FIGHT YOU AIN'T TOUCHING ME FOR THREE WEEKS!' are all very common on deck from the Old Man's office. The kids are running to hide their laughter from their father figure.

White Beard being delirious and hearing Zeff call him husband and just start blubbering and holding the peg legged chef and Zeff has flash backs to being in his thirties and the same thing happening. When Newgate had hair and his wasn't white. When the brats were teens at most and not in their thirties and forties like now. Zeff is getting pissed off when White Beard is collecting Ace and then Zeff is looking between Newgate and the teenager who is dead set on killing his husband.

"You're both idiots." Zeff seethes but Newgate just laughs everyone is concerned, except Ace, that he might fall overboard from how hard he's laughing.

"We could always send him with Izou, love!" Newgate laughs and Zeff loses it he wants to send a homicidal maniac to visit his boy and is he fucking mad? Marco is losing it with Thatch and Izou agrees to bring Ace. Patty, Carne, and him could keep Ace in check. Not to mention the host and a couple of the longer staffed waiters. When Ace asks about it, trapped on deck with the commanders and the captain he wishes to kill, the captain answers him. "Wasn't us who made it neutral territory. Zeff did it all by himself. My husband is a terrifying force of nature."

"Your husband was the most wanted man by marines and pirates in your generation." Marco pans. "I distinctly remember multiple calls during every fight almost between you, Roger, and Rayleigh about him."

"And I won the long game." Newgate smirks. Marco rolls his eyes before checking Ace's wounds and leaving. Izou does bring Ace with the skeleton crew he usually takes to the East Blue and he hears Ace just talk about his brother the entire time. Izou can't wait for the idiot to meet Sanji, Ace is going to trip over himself the entire time. And he does. Izou loses it and takes photos with Carne and Patty to take back. Zeff yells at his husband as Newgate is choking on his laughter and Marco hits his forehead with his clipboard. Ace is fearing for his life. Even after White Beard goes into remission and his husband goes back to his restaurant. Ace goes with him every time. He never gets better about Sanji. Never.

When Sanji sets sail with someone that sounds a lot like Ace's brother he quickly finds himself covered in hands like the geezer.

Then Ace finds Sanji on the way to Alabasta and they're catching up and Luffy cold cocks his brother for possibly stealing his cook. Sanji is curled on deck from laughing and his back is spasming from breaking it on Drum and Ace is also next to the man, on his knees folded over as he laughs and whines about his jaw hurting. Everyone is very confused. Then Ace watches how trained Sanji has Luffy and Zoro and collapses in laughter again.

"It's just like the Old Man and Chef." Ace says to him and Sanji shrugs.

"They shouldn't have been so fucking trainable. All fucking Blue, do not tell the Old Man, he's going to tell the Shitty Geezer." Sanji points his spatula at Ace later who is wrapping everyone's bentos after promising Sanji he wouldn't eat them. Ace pauses and looks at him.

"But it's so fucking funny that you took after Chef like this." Ace is trying so hard to not laugh.

"I'm going to drown you." Sanji seethes and Ace laughs. Then Ace watches Luffy and Zoro get told the same shit his captain does. 'Don't you fucking dare run off, Moss!' and 'You shitty fucking rubber! Don't lose him or no skewers!' and Ace watches Sanji give up and threaten both of them if they get in a fight or untie Luffy's arm from Zoro's. Ace takes a fucking a picture and sends it. It is proudly displayed in White Beard's office with a plaque reading "Like Chef like Sous" much to Zeff's annoyance.

I hate Kurohige, but I get very emotional thinking about the fact that Newgate had to have realized at some point that Teach was growing up to be Xebec’s spitting image.

Yes, Shirohige’s whole motto is that it doesn’t matter who engendered someone, what matters is who they are as a person. But it still gets me that the reason why Newgate must have been so emotionally compromised when it came to Teach—not heeding Shanks’ warnings, not doing more to stop Ace from going after Teach, not going after Teach himself right after he killed Thatch—was because Teach was Rocks’ child.

Having Teach around meant he still had a piece of Xebec.

And the same can be said for Ace and Roger.

Newgate can pretend to be as unbiased as he wishes, but it’s simple human nature to be biased. By facts, by environment, by emotions.

Shirohige welcomes everyone with open arms. He grows fond and protective of them in an instant, but love comes as time goes. And there’s no denying Newgate loved those boys as his own, and he cared for them, yes, but he grew to love them first because they were the blood of the men who had the greatest impact on his life.

The only thing that snapped him out of it, that made it possible to break the connection he had with Teach, was because Teach is the reason why Ace was in danger.

The only bond stronger than Rocks’ was Roger’s, in the end.
