This is the first short tailed python I've worked with, and I absolutely love their big personalities. Dolores is supposedly a bit "spicy" but I had no issues handling her or getting her out of her enclosure. She huffed a bit and was quite tense if you tried to pet her but otherwise was quite docile. Definitely not comfortable handing her to children just yet but she's an absolute dream 😍

i have a new short-tail python. i recently noticed a scab under his chin, which i believe is from him being live fed before i acquired him. i figure i should keep an eye on that. BUT i noticed he makes a tiny huff or "click" sound every so often when i have him out. ive heard they can be vocal creatures, but i have little experience with the species. my research is pointing towards the possibility of an RI because he is making a noise, but i am curious what you would suggest doing for him?

I’ll admit that short-tail pythons are not a species with which I’m terribly experienced. Snakes can be rather prone to infection during times of stress, so to address both the click (which does totally sound like an RI to me) and the scab I’d say take him to a reptile vet just to make sure neither problem gets worse.If he was being fed live there’s also a higher probability of him carrying parasites, so that’s another reason to have a full once-over from a professional.I hope he’s okay and congratulations on your new snekpal!
