I’ve got a planaria outbreak

I recently noticed my adult shrimps seemed to be dwindling and there were not as many shrimplets as usual. Just assumed the old stock was dying off from old age. Today I got four new yellow backs and during the water change noticed worms coming out of the gravel and sliding around on the glass. I’ve never had worms before, and was surprised to see them in this tank specifically as I only feed the shrimp a couple times a month, and my levels have been fine.

Reading about getting rid of them is disheartening as it sounds nearly impossible. I think I’m going to try the panacur-c treatment. People online are saying it’s shrimp safe, although I will need to remove the snails. Very dubious that it’ll work. Has anyone tried panacur-c or another successful planarian treatment?

I have a gorgeous betta arriving from a breeder soon, and I'm just wondering what the consensus is re: using a bowl as a hospital tank, if and when needed? I'm going to try to cohab with shrimp, which are sensitive to medications. The water will be tested frequently & kept immaculate, as shrimp require that, which should keep the betta healthy, but you never know. Also some medications kill your bacteria. Will using a fish bowl for a few days as needed do any harm to a betta if acclimatised?

Hi! Honestly, anything related to a bowl and keeping bettas makes me nervous - without a heater or a filter, I worry about fluctuations that could occur that are harmful for the betta, regardless of acclimation. Would you be keeping the betta in the bowl while medicating the shrimp in your regular tank, or vice versa? Ultimately, I only have a single betta and don’t have to worry about isolating him, and don’t have any experience with shrimp, so I can’t say for sure. Does anyone else have any input? Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

Dear Fishblr: im sorry for asking y’all for so many things, i will try to make this the last. I’m really curious about doing shrimp with my betta. Do y’all have any recommendations on blogs i should look at/get information from?

I trust the information from the keeper community here on tumblr a lot more than just any willy nilly site I go look at.
