Exam Training Montage
If anyone was raised in NYC and had to go through the high school application process from the 1990s to the 2020s, then you're in luck because this campaign is solely for us! Just kidding. It can be for anyone BUT it is mandatory that you learn the hardships of the aspect of the NYC High School Application Process this is based off of before you DM or play this. This one requires slightly more worldbuilding than Contract Breakers.
There has to be eight highschools that are considered Specialized. These highschools must have one intense exam that requires a lot of practice and prep to take it and reach the score their dream school out of the eight requires. The test has to be called the SHSAT (Specialized High School Application Test). The DND twist? They're all adventuring academies. The exam mixes together brains, brawns, and charm. Even though the test is taken solo, your party will be a bunch of middle schoolers who meet up at test prep and decide they should be friends and train for the test together even if you might be going to different schools. As you guys fight through a bunch of practice work and real life issues trying to get in the way of your dreams, you learn to kick ass and perfectly take tests.
(You can choose whether the ending is getting in, having to work in the academies' Recovery program to get in, or not getting the score the schools wanted but still getting a happy ending in a just as elite school. Oh, and a bad ending exists too or whatever. This can segway into another campaign if you want it to!)
