Hi new followers! Figuring it’s overdue to re-introduce myself. I’m Jesse! She/her/hers nonbinary femme, Leo sun/Cancer rising/Aries moon. I’m a doctoral candidate at the CUNY GC in composition and rhetoric, and I write about femme access pedagogy, embodiment and trauma, digital writing, and critical disability studies. I’m also a poet and essayist and have books with #SiblingRivalryPress and #DamagedGoodsPress and #DancingGirlPress and pieces in Entropy, @nat.brut , and @blanketseamag among many others. I’m sick and disabled and rest a LOT to cope with my hypermobility, chronic fatigue and pain, cPTSD, and neuroqueerness. I’m a fat white bisexual originally from NC based in Brooklyn and use a cane and rollator to get around. What else? I have two cats and two beautiful partners. I like indie video games and audiobooks about anti-Blackness and science fiction. Because I can lay down, I watch a lot of TV and work on a few web projects for my academic fellowships. On this account, I share a lot of fundraisers for sick and disabled, Black and Indigenous, and working-class folks, along with lots of resources intended for white folks who want to do more and better to address our racism, ableism, and white supremacist ethics. This was such an unusual cuddle moment with Milton. He generally camps nearby, usually in arm’s reach, but other than our bedtime ritual where he stands on my chest as I pet him, he never beds down right up against me, against his other daddy,sure, but I apparently move around too much. So I didn’t want to disturb him but with my @rattlemagazine subscription yesterday I got my copy of @nickole.brown’s new chapbook, To Those Who Were Our First Gods. I had read a few of the poems this year, and heard early versions beautifully read by Nickole on the Poetry Spoken Here podcast. It is dedicated to the Gulliver, the ram 🐏 whose story I followed and toward whose prosthetic leg I donated a few bucks. I was saving time this morning to drink it all in. But sitting up would have sent this timid old sweetheart of a cat running. So, slowly, quietly, I reached with my foot toward the end table and grasped the book with my toes. I recently finished reading, savoring really, the poems in Nickole’s new edition of Sister from #siblingrivalrypress.
