Sumire and Shuu's DEMO route, Shiro's story PART 2
((READ FOR TW!!! Some things in this contain SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/MENTION))
SCENE STARTS IN LIVING ROOM
SHIRO- ...
*RIIINNNGGG*
Ah...
*THUMB THUMB*
Argh...! Hrmp...!!
*Shiro gets up*
*He runs out of the room*
*SCENE CHANGES TO BATHROOM*
SHIRO- Bleh...!!
Cough..! Cough..!
*RIINNNNGG*
Aha...!! Haahh... Haha... haha... I suddenly feel tired..
(I.. Ah... I don't wanna live anymore..) Uh..
*THUMB*
*SCENE CHANGES BLACK*
SHIRO- Nn... Hm...
(Where.. Am I..? Ah.. It's me and the jumping mouses room.. I can't move freely..) Cough.. (My throat hurts... As well as my head, not only that.. Where did the mouse run off to..?)
*THE DOOR OPENS*
SHIRO- ..?
HINOTE- Ah.. Shiro-kun..! You're awake, thank god you scared me.
SHIRO- What..?
HINOTE- When I woke up you were missing, Mr. Reiji came asking about you.. So I couldn't find you I went looking and found you passed out in the bathroom.
There was this, blood to what it seemed in the toilet, I carried you back and now I've just been watching over you as you slept here, you really had me worried..!
SHIRO- You weirdo.. Watching me as I slept, you freak.
HINOTE- F-freak..!? Werido..!? How does that make me a freak or a weirdo if I only care about your well being..! Haah.. Honestly...
Here I made you some food, It's hamburger soup and some ginger ale.
*Hinote places the tray on Shiro's lap*
HINOTE- Please eat.
SHIRO- This is a weird thing to give someone if their sick..
HINOTE- Is it..? Back in my home town my first adoptive mother used to make this if I was sick, sometimes she would just make it to make it.. And she'd always give me a cup of ginger ale. It's actually good for you if you're sick you know..? This dish has a lot of meaning to me.
I used her special recipe so eat up..!
SHIRO- ...
Yeah.. I'll eat.
*Shiro begins eating*
SHIRO- Mm.. Hey this isn't that bad. It helps my throat a bit.
HINOTE- You really mean it..? That makes me so happy, I'd be more then willing to cook for you everyday if you want. I don't mind at all.
SHIRO- Sure why not.. As long as you don't give me yogurt or anything that has a slimy texture I'll be fine with it.
*SLUURRPPPP*
HINOTE- Will do..! Man I have so many things I can cook for you. You'll live in food heaven, I personally consider myself a good cook and baker.
SHIRO- Mhm.. (My head and throat suddenly feel more at ease.. Normally after medication I'm given a glass of water and then sent to bed..)
(I have to admit.. This isn't a bad change.. At least, I guess I shouldn't get too used to this.)
HINOTE- Hmm..?
*Hinote notices a pack of pills on the dresser*
HINOTE- Hey, what's this..? Is this your medication
SHIRO- ..!
HINOTE- Uh..
Sorry, I guess I shouldn't be sticking my nose where it doesn't belong..
SHIRO- Yeah.. You shouldn't.. You're always so nosey all the time.. Haah...
...
HINOTE- Right.. I just can't help but be curious.
*KNOCK KNOCK*
*The door opens*
REIJI- I see that one has finally woken up, honestly.. If you are to make a mess of this house I do expect you to clean up after yourselves, or at least get that noisy boy to clean it up for you.
That kitchen needed a better scrubbing, you cause me too much trouble for a human boy..
SHIRO- If you don't have a purpose to be in here then you should leave, quit being a asshole and leave us alone.
REIJI- Hoh..? Annoyed and mannerless after waking up..? Oh doesn't that remind me of someone,
Well for your information I do have a reason to be here.
SHIRO- Then spit it out.
REIJI- Hmph.. Here.
*Reiji passes Shiro and Hinote a cell phone*
SHIRO- ..? What's this..?
REIJI- It's exactly as it seems, it's a cell phone,
That guy sent one of this, apparently it isn't safe for a 13yr old boy and a 14 yr old run around alone in his eyes.. I just assumed that you both didn't have one.
HINOTE- Woah..! I've seen these before..! I've always wanted a cell phone. Apparently they made phones better.
SHIRO- I do have one.. But everything is locked at certain times on it besides my photo's.
REIJI- I do pray that you two will take care of these, they aren't cheap. I'm sure Shiro would be more then happy to get you set up on it..
SHIRO- Yeah yeah just get out.
REIJI- Hut.. Mannerless child.
*Reiji walks off and leaves*
*SLAM*
HINOTE- ..!.. Uwah.. Your uncle sure is scary..
SHIRO- Scary..? I wouldn't say that. He's more a wooden stick up the ass. He quite literally has a stick up his ass.
HINOTE- Pfft.. You shouldn't make fun of him.. He might here you with his dumbo ears..
SHIRO- He could if he didn't have a over amount of ear wax in them. I bet when he's alone he probably lets it all drip out because there's so much of it stuck in his ears.
HINOTE- Ahaha..! The way he cleans it is using his togue, he must adore the taste of his own bodily fluids.. Pfft.. haha..
SHIRO- Hehe.. Speaking of bodily fluids you think he looks like a turtle when he like goes into ecstasy, bet he has some weird like, ear wax fetish..
HINOTE- Ew..!
*Hinote hits Shiro's arm*
HINOTE- You're so gross..! Haha..
SHIRO- Hahaha...! Sadly gross is the truth..--
*BANG BANG*
SHIRO- ..!!
HINOTE- ..!!
*Hinote grabs Shiro pulling the two of them onto the ground behind the bed*
*THUMB*
SHIRO- Haah.. What the hell..
HINOTE- ...
*Hinote lifts up to look over the bed*
SHIRO- Hey what are you doing...
HINOTE- ...
Ah...! Don't try and look stay down Shiro-kun..
SHIRO- Ahh.. Ever annoying..
HINOTE- ...
I think.. the cost is clear..
SHIRO- Alright then.. Can I get up now, your hurting my head..
HINOTE- W-wait.. Hold on a minute.
*Hinote quickly turns off the light*
HINOTE- Okay, I think everything should be fine now. Get up lowly.
SHIRO- Hm..
*Hinote holds his hand out, Shiro grabs his hand, Hinote lightly squeezes it*
HINOTE- Are you okay..? You weren't hurt anywhere right..?
SHIRO- No.. The best hurt I am was when you were pushing my head on the floor, you're so skittish.
I really don't need you to actually go through the body guard thing, I'm strong enough to take of myself.
HINOTE- But I want to, I mean what use am I if I can't do as much as protecting you. I'll protect you regardless of what you say.
SHIRO- ...
You're a idiot.
HINOTE- Gah..! Well this idiot just saved you from being shot..!
But.. The real question is.. Who would do something like this..? I mean, why..?
SHIRO- I'm aware this side of my family is targeted a lot by vampire hunters, maybe they saw me and you come in here and now they're targeting us.
Man.. I hate dealing with dead people problems.
HINOTE- Vampire hunters huh.. That must really suck..
SHIRO- It more then sucks, I get targeted enough and now this is happening, ever annoying..
Haah..
*Shiro flops onto his back onto the bed, Hinote simply laying next to him*
SHIRO- Phew..
HINOTE- You never catch a break do you..? It seems like always you have something bad creeping up on you.
SHIRO- I guess so.. I can handle all of it at once, I'm fine.
And don't think about trying to stick your nose where it doesn't belong.
HINOTE- 'I can handle it all at once' I don't believe that one bit..!
You know I'm here for a reason right..? I'm here to protect you.
SHIRO- You say that all the time, yet you know your gonna get yourself killed regardless. Like just now, you could of died you know..? You are gonna die if you pull stunts like that again.
HINOTE- I'm pretty strong you know..! I can protect you, even if my life is on the line I'll continue to protect you. I made a oaf on it..!
I'm not gonna let you die, I'll protect you with my life. And if you do die then it better be because you weren't in my care or something like that. But I won't let that happen..!
SHIRO- ...
You are the weirdest guy I've ever met, and I've talked to very few people.
HINOTE- I'm a weirdo and proud. Hehe..
I mean it though. Relay on me a little won't you..?
SHIRO- ..Tut.. You really are serious about the whole body guard thing. That's like you though. Pwah.. I guess I can a bit.. If I do die I'll 80% make sure it's out of your care.
Oh my dear dedicated body guard, won't you be so kind as to placing my delicate body on a comfy spot on this bed.
HINOTE- Haha.. I don't think it's safe to sleep on the bed..
SHIRO- Ew.. You're making me sleep on the floor.. Bugs are gonna crawl in my ears and then I'm gonna die from a crazy infection. What was that about 'I won't let you die' you went on about earlier, you're already failing horribly
HINOTE- That won't happen don't be silly..! But we need to be carefully I don't wanna go to the window.
SHIRO- Wimp..
HINOTE- Stop teasing me..! I am not..!
MONOLOGUE
--I had heard gun shots plenty of times, this isn't the first.
It's what makes me so on guard of my surroundings. I'm not sure why I didn't feel it coming.
I don't understand why the loud bang still shocks me.
No one tells me why, not even myself will tell me why.
All of this.. The warmth I feel from a simple boy, I can't allow myself to get used to
The simple boy is simply apart of the "calm before the storm"
I started rubbing my arm, sword still in my hand as I mustered up all my courage. “I doubt you’re as taken with me as I am with you.”
“I take it you mean that in a romantic sense?” She asked as I slowly returned the sword to its scabbard simply to have something else to do with my hands.
“Yes.” I replied quietly as I stared at the ground. “But…” I didn’t get to finish the thought as her lithe fingers entered my field of vision. They hooked themselves under my chin and pushed my face up to her.
“My Brother is an idiot.” She commented as she looked me in the eyes intensely. “I was impressed with you from the minute I met you.” No sooner had those words left her lips she pulled me into a searing kiss. I stood stock still, shock sapping very thought from my head. “This is the part where you kiss me back…” She whispered in slight exasperation when she pulled away.
“Oh… so… sorry…” I stammered as my free hand slid across her cheek. The corner of her mouth quirked up in a smile. I was about to give her a kiss in return when an irritated voice called to us from the end of the alley.
“There will be plenty of time for your illicit affair back at the castle…” Lord Nobunaga huffed.
“There’s truly no telling with you though, now is there?” Lady Oichi’s serene face twisted in an instant. She spun around and stormed right up to him. I chased after her trying to keep her from doing something rash. “Will you take this from me too?” Something akin to sadness flashed in his eyes, but it was replaced by his usual confidence.
“I have no intention of taking anything else away from you that makes you happy.” After a rare show of straightforwardness, Lord Nobunaga spurred his horse back to the castle. Lady Oichi stared at his back for a moment before turning to me and smiling.
“Shall we go back?” She offered me her hand and I took it readily.
“I’m sorry, Milady. We didn’t get to eat quite as many sweets as I promised.”
“That’s quite all right. I suspect I will get my fill of sweets later tonight.” I gaped at her wide-eyed for in that moment, it was very clear she was Oda Oichi, so much like her brother and yet so very different.
“Well, out with it!” She pressed with genuine interest now, leaning in slightly.
“It doesn’t matter… I couldn’t be with them either.” I replied evasively as I plucked a manju up to eat. Oichi eyed me dubiously as she reached out a slender fingers and plucked the bun from my hand just before I could bite into it.
“Just for fun then…” She echoed what I had said earlier with a triumphant smile. I sighed defeated as I watched her nibble the pilfered bun. “I could always help you charm him, you know…” There was a glint, a tiny ember of genuine happiness in her eyes.
“It’s embarrassing to just say it outright.” I hid my face behind my hands and darted my hands away. Especially when they’re staring right at you!
“Then describe them and let us guess!” The cook offered helpfully. Not helpful, thanks…
“I have a crush on someone very beautiful with a smile that lights up a whole room.” I began tentatively as I slowly lowered my hands. “Intelligent, dignified, and very strong. Witty and loyal…” I was interrupted by Lady Oichi loud, contented laugh.
“So it was you who pines after Lord Mitsuhide…” She finally said, leaning in to speak at a conspiratorial level.
I was at a loss for words to start with. I couldn’t really tell her who I had a crush on. At the same time, I knew she wouldn’t let it go without an answer.
“Lady Oichi doesn’t seem to mind…” I replied with a shrug.
“It doesn’t matter for around the castle, but my brother is right. If anyone of import comes it would not be fitting for you to call yourself my attendant and look like that.” Lady Oichi announced, as if summoned by her name being spoken. The cook was with her. “What happened to your belongings at the tea house?”
I laughed awkwardly and rubbed my arm before I could stop myself. “Well it seems the lord proprietor didn’t take kindly to my leaving…” I looked away to avoid giving away more than I absolutely had to. “He destroyed everything he could get his hand on. And some of it never made it out of Odani…”
“Why the long face?” A voice cut through my stewing thoughts and I looked up to greet it. It was the cook.
“I’ve been trying to get Lady Oichi out of her room for a few days now. I was hoping since she came out to save me, she might do so again…” I sighed plopping him chin in my hands again. “At least she’s eating…” The cook glanced down at the tray in her hands and smiled.
“It’s a good sign since she’s eating. My father used to say if you can’t find a will to live or good food find one and you’ll find the other!” She said it as if it made perfect sense and perhaps to a cook it would. I sat up and looked at her confused.
“Are you suggesting that one’s will to live should be food if one has no other reason to live?” I just had to make sure I followed correctly.
“Exactly! Food give you the strength to keep moving forward until you find another reason to live again!” Oh so there was more to it… I nodded in understanding. Something in the garden caught my eye and pieces started clicking into place.
“A burly chaperone… OF COURSE!” I jumped to my feet and started running into the garden. A group of retainers lead by Lord Katsuie were just about to start training. “Lord Katsuie!” He turned when I called his name. “I have a favor to ask of you!”
“Well I’ll certainly try to help if I can.” He flashed a broad smile as he held a armful of practice swords.
“I want to train with you.” That simple declaration caused both his eye brows to arch dangerously close to his hairline. He blinked at me a few times for regaining himself.
“Train in sword fighting?” He shifted the load in his arms and it seemed as if he would say no. “Might I ask why you feel you need to learn how to handle a blade?”
“I’d like to be able to defend Lady Oichi in the event something happens… I… feel like as her attendant I should be able to manage that much.” I answered resolutely though I realized mid-answer how foolish I probably sounded. She was safe and sound in the main castle of the Oda clan and its army of far stronger and more skilled fighters. Still, Lord Katsuie smiled broadly before passing me a practice sword.
“A noble cause seeking to serve your Lady to the fullest! We train here twice a day and I will expect you to be here every day! No excuses!” He barked very seriously. “I won’t take it easy on you just because you’re a woman!” It was my turn to blink up at him a few times.
“Thank you!” I jogged over to where the other retainers were lined up. They had no small measure of skepticism on their faces.
“You know your sword is upside down…” One snickered taking a jab at me with his own sword.
“I dare you to try that again…” I smirked as I glanced at him out of the corner of his vision. “Only do it like you mean to kill me…” He just snickered under his breath.
“Suit yourself. Better not hear you crying when I hit you.” I put one hand on my own sword’s hilt with both hands. This time he came at much faster and harder this time with a one-handed jab leaving himself wide open. Rookie mistake buddy. Never underestimate your opponent… I deflected his attack by driving my sword all the way to the hilt. Even though I was at a disadvantage in strength by using both hands I was still able to drive his sword into the ground.
“This would be to point where I unsheathe my short sword and kill you…” I mused pulling away with a sanguine smile. The retainer gaped at me like a fish, mouth opening and closing but no words coming out.
“What just happened?!” He finally blurted out as the audience started snickering around us.
“You forgot a very simple rule. Approach every opponent as if they could kill you. Then you’ll never be surprised.” Katsuie coughed to stifle his own laughter before donning an angry face.
“That’s enough you two! Fifty practice swings for disrupting training!” He roared but it was clear he had a happy twinkle in his eye. I glanced over at the other retainers who were now clearly less skeptical of me. Fifty practice swings to make a group of Oda retainers think twice about messing with me? Worth it…
I wasn’t just content to just train though. After further investigation, the cook told me Lady Oichi used to make sweets with her, though she ate more than she made. I got the cook to teach me how to make some of Lady Oichi’s favorites. The temptation of some sweets and girl time coaxed her out into the garden one warm day. The three of us enjoyed an impromptu tea ceremony in the garden.
“You’re skills are impressive, but I think Lord Mitsuhide is still more skillful at the tea ceremony.” The cook mused as she sipped the tea given her.
“I have heard similar.” I replied with a smile. I followed her line of sight further out where some of the retainers were training. With a wicked grin I gently ribbed the cook. “Is your crush out there?” Her eyes went wide, body stiffening at the suggestion. She tried to hide her blush behind a sip of tea.
“I believe he is… Shall we try to guess who it is?” Oichi positively dripped with intrigue as she spoke. “It couldn’t possibly be a certain loyal canine?” The cook choked on her tea and Oichi laughed lightly, it was almost musical.
“Why… What would make you think that?” The cook tried to cover but it was a weak effort.
“It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Lord Toshiie not without faults is still a very loyal and kind man. I think he would make an excellent husband.” I soothed offering her another cup of tea.
“Yes, if he doesn’t pickle himself before the honeymoon…” We both looked at our lady shocked. “I haven’t said anything that isn’t true.” She added nonchalantly.
“He does drink quite a bit…” The cook conceded with a small giggle.
“Did you ever have a crush on someone, Lady Oichi?”
“It would matter not even if I did…” Her reply was dry, soaked in malice.
“Just for fun,” I urged her on gently, “what type of person was he?”
“Strong, loyal, and steadfast. A man of convictions.” She replied quietly before sipping her tea.
“Lord Mitsuhide?” I asked cautiously. She shot me the most indignant look I had ever seen. “Clearly not Lord Mitsuhide…” I added hastily and looked away.
“An older man… Just a little dense, but kind nonetheless.” The way she went on with a certain pain tinged nostalgia felt familiar.
“Lord Katsuie?” I asked thinking her voice felt like how I felt whenever he would treat me like one of his own during training.
“Please…” She looked away quickly. “How ridiculous…” Her rebuke was not nearly as strong this time. I smiled as I studied her.
“Forgive me, it seems I’m not as good at guessing as I thought…” I replied though it was clear I really had.
“Time for you to partake of this foolishness.” Lady Oichi turned her keen gaze on me. “Has anyone in my brother’s travel side show caught your eye?”
Well I had a nice run here in Owari while it’s lasted. I made some good friends these last few months. For the first time in a long, long time I felt genuinely happy. I even got to be with Lady Oichi for a while longer. Ah, fair Lady Oichi. I wish I could see her one more time before I leave this world to thank her for being my friend. Even if they don’t take my head here and now, if they lock me in the dungeon there’s no way that would happen.
“I know you’re not mute, answer the question.” Lord Nobunaga sounded irritated now, a suspicious look on his face. “What is your name?”
“The truth is…” I took a deep breath to solidify my resolve.
“The truth is even if you didn’t recognize her, you already know her name. All this is just a trifling amusement for you at someone else’s expense. As if one should expect anything less of you.” Lady Oichi’s biting tone sliced clean through the room drawing everyone’s attention to the door. “If you had any intention of doing something important with that information, you would have done it by now.” She added as she crossed the room, stopping next to me. “So, for the sake of my brother’s amusement, her name is Mejiro the former Songbird of Kyoto and now my personal attendant. As you might imagine I’ve not needed much attending as of late so Mejiro has been helping around the castle.”
Lord Nobunaga’s piercing gaze met Lady Oichi’s look of disdain. He seemed as if he was going to question her but thought better of it. He was the first to look away, huffing and looking rather bored of the whole situation. “So, that’s how it is?” A smirk cocked on his lips like one of the guns he seemed so fond of. He had a bullet waiting and I was afraid to know what it was. “If you wanted a pet to keep you company, you should have said something.” Not as bad as I thought it might be. “But answer me one thing, Sister. What good is a songbird if it doesn’t sing?” That doesn’t sound good…
Oichi’s smile was a loaded gun all its own masked by ethereal beauty but no less deadly. “Even base creatures be they a monkey, dog, fox, or bird that doesn’t sing are still far better company than a Lord of Hell.” She shot back not missing a beat. Before he could retort she grabbed my hand and started dragging me to my feet. “Since we are quite finished, I will be taking back what is mine now.” I watched the occupants of the main hall through wide eyes as she dragged me by a sleeve out of the room. Stunned is a good word to describe the retainers. Lord Nobunaga’s expression was complex and unreadable.
Once we were well clear of the main hall, Oichi gave my sleeve a yank so I was facing her. There was a well of sadness in the depths of her eyes that was painful to gaze into. Before I could press her on that, one thing was burning the tip of my tongue. “He knows who I am and he’s suspicious of me.” I sighed to try to release the tension from my body. “Not as though I can blame him. Our clans were enemies and his the victor. It is natural assume that the defeated would despite the victor…” My voice trailed off as my eyes wandered from hers. “I’m as good as dead if I don’t entertain him to his liking, aren’t I?”
Lady Oichi’s soft hands brushed the tears from my cheeks I didn’t even know were there. “My brother left you to me as his thanks for sparing his armies. He trusts my judgement even if he may not trust you.”
“I don’t understand…” She explained to me how she had managed to get a message to him to warn him of Lord Nagamasa’s betrayal. In doing so, Lord Nobunaga was able to avoid being surrounded and destroyed.
“I’m sorry.” Was how she chose to conclude her story.
“For what exactly?” I asked as I sat down on the edge of the veranda. I patted the floor next to me and after some trepidation she sat down.
“You finally got your freedom back and I stole it away from you in a moment of anger.” There was genuine regret in her voice as tears pricked her eyes. I smiled as I leaned back on my hands.
“Let’s see… Shall we compare the cages I have found myself in…” I deliberately used a teasing tone. “The lord of the house is a bit crazy, that’s the same.” She stifled a giggled. “I’m pretty sure after today I’ll have a big burly chaperone if I go out of the house walls. Oh! But he will be far more handsome so that’s something to look forward to! Lord Mitsuhide perhaps? Maybe Lord Toshiie?” Lady oichi scoffed in amusement.
“A dog like Toshiie would be a terrible chaperone! He gets himself in enough trouble on his own there’s no way he could chaperone anyone!” She was laughing in earnest now, a real smile on her face for the first time in ages.
“Then wouldn’t he be the perfect chaperone? I could probably lose him pretty easily and just do what I wanted then!” I teased giving her a playful nudge. “What else?” I tapped my chin a few moments as I thought on it. “The food is better here… The garden is bigger… I will miss the cherry tree though.” I smiled wryly as I glanced over at Lady Oichi. Her beauty was only highlighted by the faint silver light of the moon playing against her skin, reflecting off her hair.
“My best friend is a beautiful lady of the house. One that I still question why she is friends with someone like me…” I concluded as I looked up to the moon.
“It seems every time I blink I have lost someone else precious to me. My Father… my brothers… my husband.” Her voice was quiet, volume weighed down by the burden of her sadness. “I was impressed by your skills in Kyoto, that’s true. But at Odani I came to believe you might understand my sadness. Trapped in a game we never wanted to play. Rigged against so all we can do is lose over and over again.”
Slowly reached out and unclenched Lady Oichi’s hand, taking it firmly in both of mine. With a wry smile I thought back to a poem I had heard some time ago and had left an impression with me.
“Autumn wind of eve, /blow away the clouds that mass /over the moon's pure light /and the mists that cloud our mind, /do thou sweep away as well. Now we disappear, /well, what must we think of it? /From the sky we came. /Now we may go back again. That's at least one point of view.”
“A death poem?” She asked as she clenched my hand tightly.
“I wonder what Lord Nagamasa’s said. I’m sure it was full of warmth and kindness. Just like him.” She smiled at this though tear trickled down her cheeks.
“Do you miss Naotsune?” A complicated question to answer.
“I do.” That was the honest truth. “I tried to convince myself I didn’t care about him. But I did even if I didn’t love him.”
“Do you resent my brother for him dying?”
“Lord Nobunaga isn’t the one who killed Lord Naotsune. He chose to do what he did and that got him killed. Maybe if he had chosen a different path he might still be alive today. I can’t resent Lord Nobunaga for something he didn’t do.” Lady Oichi let out a long sigh.
“I wish to die /in spring, beneath /the cherry blossoms, /while the springtime moon /is full.” She recited beautifully.
“Ah… So, I have until the Spring to convince you otherwise? Plenty of time!” She laughed again, however brief it was.
“You seem like a very different person here than even in Odani.”
“It’s not here. It’s just with you. I know I don’t have to wear a mask. I had almost forgotten what it was like to be myself…” I passed my hand in front of my face. “Milady Oichi, we mustn’t tarry outside any longer. You’ll catch your death of cold on this pleasantly mild summer night!” My serious demeanor crumbled right along with her sad eyes. We both started laughing.
“Shall I sing you a song, Milady?”
“I would like that very much.”
I was wandering the garden the next day trying to find some nice flowers to decorate Lady Oichi’s room. A tongue clicked from behind my and I looked up to see Lord Nobunaga staring down at me in disgust. “Do you know so little about living in castle that you think your appearance is fitting your position?” I got to my feet and looked down at my dirty kimono, stains on the knees from kneeling in the dirt. Thinking back on it, all of Lady Oichi’s attedants were impeccably dressed though not nearly as rich in their attire as her.
