I DID A SIDE SPIN
several in fact. the difficult part turned out to be getting out of it. twice i managed to slide down semi-gracefully, another time i managed to climb out, and of course another i straight up fell on my butt. i may have some knuckle shaped bruises on my left butt cheek tomorrow morning, and i will definitely have some on my inner thigh.
i'm not sure if i would say my white whale is vanquished. i still felt that mental block when i tried it on my left side, but its definitely a huge leap forward, and knowing i can do that is a bit boost to my internal arsenal. and it felt surprisingly smooth. of all the moves i've learned how to do, that one seems to involve the least amount of strain.
i liked this instructor i had tonight a lot. i've been jumping around in time slots in order to basically try every teacher the place has to offer, and this chick, steph, is probably my favorite. she's super encouraging, gives really good instruction, and shouted ridiculous empowering things at me when i needed it (she has a background in gymnastics, so i'm imagining she got that habit from coaches shouting at her between moves). i even kind of sort of did a fan kick, which usually looks like a feeble mess when i try it, because her way of explaining it just made way more sense. and she managed to teach me a combo which turned out to be super fun and something that i was maybe good at.
so yeah, i'm a happy pole dancer tonight. also bruised and sore, but happy.
