The “objectively” bad movies that I love (Vol.2)

Glass (2019) (37% on rotten tomatoes)

The secondary characters of Unbreakable and Split (except Cassie) are of little use to the story, serving only as a witness. (Why don't they do anything during the climax ?!) The institute that guards Kevin, David, and Elijah has such bad security, it's absurd. The final plot twist comes out of nowhere, and the bond between the three main characters is forced. But I love this movie for the actors (especially James McAvoy and Samuel L Jackson), the drama, the directing (It's a Mr. Night Shyamalan movie after all), but also for its wonderful message, although bringing oddly.

Dragonball Evolution (2009) (15% on rotten tomatoes)

Ok, this movie is REALLY bad. I haven't read any Dragonball manga, watch any episode of any series in this universe, and yet this movie remains a huge insult to this manga. The story goes way too fast and connects silly references and fan services. Goku, in this movie, has the typical "personality" of a moronic teen movie, with all the clichés that follow. Picollo, the villain, is at the height of ridiculousness. The costumes are ugly (Even a bad cosplay looks better), not to mention the sets, the special effects, which are ... that's what. And I like this film for guilty pleasure. Like Venom, this is the kind of movie that's so bad it gets funny. And some fights are honestly cool to watch. Oh, and I forgot, the story is inconsistent from start to finish.

Speed Racer (2008) (40% on rotten tomatoes)

There, it’s the opposite, I don’t understand the lynching for this film. I specify that I don’t know at all the manga. Ok, some scenes are not very useful, and the little brother is annoying. There are quite a few clichés, and even some grossness, which can be odd for a film that seems to be family-friendly. But damn, the atmosphere that reigns is energetic, warm, sparkling! The racing scenes are insane! Michael Giacchino's music is both epic and moving! The characters are almost all very endearing, and the visual style is colorful and out of the ordinary! When I rewatch this movie, I'm on fire!

Speed (1994) (94% on rotten tomatoes)

Yeah, this movie has 94% ... I don't really understand. The villain is ridiculous, action takes precedence over logic and common sense. The basic situation is absurd, and it's the typical action-packed American movie genre, where the main character (played by Keanu Reeves) seems to be the only one with an ounce of intelligence and the extras are there only. to scream in terror. And yet I, too, love this film. The action is gripping, the sense of speed and danger is palpable throughout, and the character of Sandra Bullock is funny. Oh, and the music is quite memorable.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver surfer (2007) (37% on rotten tomatoes)

The special effects have aged badly. The Fantastic Four are all ridiculed several times in the film. The story is predictable, the villain very forgettable, and the romance is a shambles. Even Stan Lee's cameo is forgettable! However, the action scenes are nicely choreographed, some references make you smile, some jokes save a bit of dubious humor. As for the silver surfer, he is classy, and gives off a mysterious aura, certainly classic, but all the same intriguing.

Chappie (2015) (32% on rotten tomatoes)

Ok. The story has a lot of potential, but is little used. The characters guarding Chappie are cartoonish, and the villain is just a brainless bastard. Just as Chappie's evolution can be disconcerting. But this is the whole point of his ambivalent character, he is a child who does not know what to do or believe, and who evolves in a hostile environment. Hans Zimmer's music is fairly secondary, but proves effective in quiet and / or dramatic moments. The special effects and the designs of the robots are stunning, because they are very realistic (except their rabbit ears ...). As for the end, I find it surprising and touching.

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) (57% on rotten tomatoes)

Quite honestly, I don't see a lot of flaws for this movie, why is it poorly rated? For certain characters put too much in the background, or too cliché? For some weird visual effects? The fact that it's a remake of an old Disney classic? However, it is a magnificent tribute to this film, but also to magic, and especially to cinema. Those who have seen the movie, and the climax will understand. In addition, the moral on lying is fine. This is not a movie with the saying "Oh no, lying is bad." On the contrary, it recalls that if it can be harmful, it also allows to keep a serene climate, that it can help in a quest, and that it very often brings dreams. This is the definition of cinema, and of fiction!

Small reminder: the word objectively is not in quotes for nothing. Even in the worst movies, you can find a quality that will make you love it. Don't be ashamed of your tastes, whether it's for the movies or whatever.
