[ADELINE]: I think better when I’m moving, I can’t help it! [KATE]: Maybe try thinking out loud so I can help

[ADELINE]: I just don’t know if I’m making the right decision about going to uni. Papa has told me it’s my choice, so why do I feel so guilty wanting to go?

[KATE]: Do you want my opinion or would you rather just vent? [ADELINE]: I always want your opinion. It’s one of the few I know I can trust

[KATE]: I think you’re overthinking it

[ADELINE]: I’m always overthinking it!

[ADELINE]: I’m sorry, I just feel like this is my first big decision that is completely my own and I’m terrified I’m going to choose wrong

[ADELINE]: Like, what does a future monarch even need to go to university for?

[ADELINE]: It’s not like I’m going to be studying political science or economics, or anything useful. I would be a literature major! How is that going to help Brighton?

[KATE]: You wouldn’t be going for Brighton, you’d be going for you. And honestly, I think doing something for yourself WOULD be doing something for Brighton. Being a well balanced person with world experience will do you well and uni is a great place to get that

[ADELINE]: Are you saying I’m sheltered? Because you’re right, but I don’t like it

[KATE]: I’d never say that… out loud [ADELINE]: Oh shut up

The Royal Family Hosts Diplomatic Reception!

The senior members of the Royal Family have gathered at Nimben Palace for the annual Diplomatic Reception, held every June by the Queen and Prince Consort (pictured above).

In attendance, traditionally, are the senior members of the Royal Family. This year, the list included the Duke and Duchess of Exeter, the Earl and Countess of Betancourt, the Princes Charles, Robert and Benjamin, Princess Alice (attending for the first time!), the Viscount and Viscountess Angers, the Viscount and Viscountess de Vanily, Princess Katherine (attending for the first time in over a decade!), the Duchess of Carlisle, Lord Sebastian Carlisle, the Duke and Duchess of Asbury, the Earl of Barre and Lady Beatrice Asbury.

Also in attendance were Lord Nicodemo and his new husband, William Samson, although the couple made it clear that they were attending as charity representatives and LGBTQIA+ activists, not as part of the Royal Family, thus they were not included on the walk into the reception hall.

Notably absent this year was the Queen Dowager, who's private secretary released a statement saying that:

"Her Majesty, the Queen Dowager is not feeling well this evening and does not wish to get other members of her family, especially those with young children, sick. Her Majesty is doing well and will attend her engagement tomorrow night at Faircourt Hall."

Also not in attendance were Lord Chandler, the third son of the late Princess Isabel; Lady Alexandra, Princess Katherine's youngest child; and Lord Anton and Lady Leonora, the Duke and Duchess of Asbury's youngest two children.

The rest of the Royal Family is expected to gather at some point within the next few weeks for the christening of Princess Emilia of Exeter, although this remains unconfirmed both by palace sources and the family.

[WOMAN #1]: This is the most beautiful Rose Day celebration in years

[WOMAN #2]: I heard that the princess planned it entirely, from the decorations all the way down to even the menu

[MAN #1]: At least one of the royals has their shit together then. Have you heard the prince has been seen in Thornbeck for over a month now? My brother says he has seen him a few times now all on his own out there

[WOMAN #1]: It seems the rumors of trouble in the royal household have some merit then

[MAN #2]: I’m not one for gossip, but a friend of a friend works inside the palace and told me the king hadn’t even told his children about the affair

[MAN #1]: Well we’ve all heard what a hothead that boy is, but not even showing to support your country on Rose Day of all days? Inexcusable if you ask me

[MARY]: Your Royal Highness, may I just say that you have done a marvelous job on today’s celebration. This is the finest Rose Day as far back as I can remember!

[MARY]: My name is Mary Edwards and this is my son, Landon. My husband is old school chums with His Majesty [LANDON]: It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Royal Highness

[ADELINE]: Oh, how lovely. Thank you for your kind words, I worked hard on today’s event and it means a lot that people are enjoying themselves. I’m sorry you missed my father. I’m sure he would have loved to have caught up on things, but he had work to attend to

[MARY]: Of course, I understand that the king is a very busy man, as is my husband who was unable to accompany us today. It’s just as well that Landon and I had the opportunity to finally meet you, princess. She is even more beautiful in person, wouldn’t you agree dear?

[MARY]: You don’t DISAGREE, do you? [LANDON]: Of course not! I mean, you are gorgeous princess, I only meant- I didn’t mean to insult you I just-

[ADELINE]: It’s alright, really. After growing up with younger siblings it takes far more to insult me, I assure you

[MARY]: Yes, I’m sure it does. Where is the prince anyway? It seems rather odd that he not make an appearance at his sister’s first event

[ADELINE]: Oh, you see, he actually… um… well he… [LANDON]: I’m sure he was needed elsewhere, mother. Surely it’s not the princess’s job to keep tabs on her siblings

[MARY]: Of course, I was only asking because everyone seems so taken by his absence and [ADELINE]: internally Breathe, stop hyperventilating and just breathe dammit

[ADELINE]: internally You’re fine, everything is fine. No one is staring at you and they definitely can’t see you’re about to break down. Get through this goddammit and stop being such a mess

[ADELINE]: internally Stop shaking, oh my god you’re being so overdramatic. You knew they would ask about him, why are you reacting like this?

[LANDON]: I think we’ve taken enough of Her Highness’s time, mother [ADELINE]: Yes, I’m sorry, if you’ll excuse me

[KATE]: I saw you run off and I- Oh! Are you alright? Did something happen?

[KATE]: I don’t mean to intrude, I just- [ADELINE]: No no, I just um, I got a bit overwhelmed I guess. I’m overreacting honestly, it’s not a big deal really

[KATE]: Adeline, it’s alright. Breathe, okay? It’s perfectly understandable that you’re overwhelmed, this day was a lot of responsibility

[ADELINE]: I’m sorry, I’m just- it’s just… sobs [KATE]: Don’t apologize. Let it out, Addie

[ADELINE]: I know I’m being ridiculous, I just can’t help it. I can’t stop shaking and it’s kind of hard to breathe [KATE]: You’re not being ridiculous, I think you’re having a panic attack.

[KATE]: Has this happened to you before? [ADELINE]: Yeah… a few times. They were asking about Bash and I just… I froze. They probably think I’m crazy now…

You’re going to give the speech we practiced countless times and everyone is going to talk about how the Crown Princess threw the best Rose Day celebration in decades

[ADELINE]: Thank you, Kate. I really don’t know what I would do without you

[ADELINE]: Thank you all for joining us in celebrating another Rose Day together as a nation. We have all heard the love story between Princess Elizabeth of Brighton and Sir John, her trusted protector, that inspired this longstanding celebration of love and unity

[ADELINE]: Though the love between the princess and her knight was forbidden, their hearts refused to obey the rules of man. We celebrate their perseverance each year to remind us of the strength that love provides us and the sacrifices that may be made for it

[ADELINE]: Princess Elizabeth and Sir John may have given up everything to be together, but their love inspired the princess’s father, King Edward II, to make peace with his daughter and rule that future generations may marry for love despite their station

[ADELINE]: The country celebrated with a large feast and lovers across the nation exchanged roses as a symbol of their own love along with honoring the princess and her new husband. Today we continue to celebrate love and the unity between our people, no matter their station

[KATE] We’ve been at this for long enough that I think we have earned a break anyway. I’m going to take a quick walk to give you guys some time to chat

[MATILDA]: I know we aren’t supposed to look at the news stories about us, but all of my friends have been sending me the articles all morning and I had to look

[ADELINE]: You know the press loves to make up stories about us. I get being curious about it, but what could they possibly have written about you?

[MATILDA]: It isn’t about me, it’s Papa. Just look, okay!

[ADELINE]: Fine, but I really need to get back to work soon

[ADELINE]: Oh

[KATE]: What about the pastries? Have you decided on the final menu?

[ADELINE]: We have to have lemon cakes for sure, but the pastry chef said she can make some sort of rose shaped tarts with rosewater flavoring as well

[ADELINE]: I’m more worried about the sandwiches to be honest. I want to make sure we have some sort of vegetarian menu as well

[KATE]: That’s a smart idea. I can ask the chef to make sure we have options

[ADELINE]: There’s so much to think about with planning this, it’s overwhelming

[KATE]: I know it doesn’t count for much, but you’re doing very well in my opinion

[ADELINE]: That does mean a lot Kate, thank you

[HARRISON]: Addie, have you seen Bash? He’s not answering his phone and he gave his guard the slip again

[ADELINE]: I think he said he was going to Hillwood with Thalia

[HARRISON]: He went all the way to Thornbeck? I’m going to kill that boy one of these days, but right now I have to leave to catch my flight. When he gets back here, tell him we need to have a little chat

[KATE]: It’s an honor to meet you, Your Royal Highness. My name is Kate and I am here to assist you in any way you need

[ADELINE]: Oh, please there’s no need for all of the propriety. And please, just Adeline is fine

[KATE]: Adeline, thank you ma’am

[ADELINE]: I don’t have much time before school, but please tell me a little about yourself

[KATE]: Oh, there’s not much to tell ma’am. I just recently graduated with a degree in art history and am incredibly grateful for this opportunity

[ADELINE]: I thought you looked young. It will be nice having another young woman to talk to around here

[KATE]: I look forward to it

[ADELINE]: I assume my father told you I’m being put in charge of this year’s Rose Day garden party?

[KATE]: He did, ma’am

[ADELINE]: This will be my first major event being in charge, so your assistance will be deeply appreciated in planning it

[KATE]: Of course, ma’am. I will assist you in any way I possibly can

[ADELINE]: I need to head off now, but maybe we could discuss some of my ideas when I get home?
