Wonky Foxy!
I finished up this red fox skull, which happened to be a bit wonky. I took him last year after a landowner had dispatched him. Didn’t look noticeably off from the outside, that is until after I had skinned him out. I then realized that his eyes didn’t quite line up together. And now that the skull is complete, I can see that 1) his teeth don’t quite come together perfectly and are misaligned, 2) he appears to have a little damage or deformation under the eye on one side, 3) his eyes are off center as well, and 4) he also has a deviated septum, so his nasal cavity is crooked. He hardly looks “normal” when you look at him from every angle. I tried to include as many pics to show how “off” this skull actually is. The last pic is before maceration, and you can see what I noticed with the eyes.
⌖ Carnivora skull collection
A few shots from Chaos the cat's recent adipocere (grave wax) scraping session!
Luckily he wasn't very waxy, and I was able to hyper focus and complete the entire skeleton in one sitting. It took just over a respectable 5 hours. Now he's in a degreasing solution of 1:3 clear household ammonia & tap water.
TY to @f0xx0rzz who requested that Chaos' progress be shared
Gave my Wall of Skulls a good dusting and rearranging the other day.
Her dark collection
ive recently moved my collection around and got my shelving almost done so i think its time for a collection update :) i need to redo the passerine shelf and move some boxes to better display the tiny birds.
UK based, bird remains are legal !
Holy crap I just bought an ethically sourced grey wolf skull at the Oddities and Curiosities Expo 🤯 with CITES paperwork.
This is a big deal for me here in Australia because I could never have thought obtaining a wild canid skull from Canada was even possible with our strict quarantine laws.
I also grabbed a black backed jackal skull - ethically sourced from Africa - to display with the red fox skull I found and cleaned up about 10 years ago.
I’m so so excited to have these canid skulls. I can’t stop staring at them they’re just gorgeous!!!!
These are so special and so incredible and I’m so happy I found them at the expo today!
They’re on display with the beautifully preserved skull of my partner’s cat, who died of cancer a few years ago.
I don’t know if I’d ever have my pets skulls preserved but I respect his wishes and I think she’s beautiful on display there.
