I feel like Z-A has one of the few instances of a location being accurately scaled because Sky Pillar is HUGE like it makes Rayquaza look like a teeny baby
Insane megalithic structure this is simply not comparable to anything on our planet.

The sky falls again. Will you finally live up to your legends?
Out of curiosity, what is y'all's least favorite dungeon in Pokemon? I've always been awful at the Mach Bike puzzles (my eye/hand coordination is really bad), so Sky Pillar is easily mine. In over 20 years of playing Pokemon, 20 years of these games being out, I've only gotten up there to catch Rayquaza twice. After over an hour of attempts each time. I hate this place.
I genuinely remember hearing the last bit of ORAS's postgame took place at Sky Pillar, and being like, "If that Mach Bike puzzle is back, the Pokemon world is doomed 🤷♀️" I was so relieved finding out that I didn't have to use a Mach Bike this time. 😂
Sky Pillar // Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (2014)
[A video file is embedded. The clip starts on a beach of some sort of island. Large, jagged pieces of rock jut up out of the sand here and there. It seems the camera is set up on a stand of some kind as Amy can be seen investigating some of the large rocks and looking up to the right of the camera every so often. He sports a t shirt that says 'I eat Asbestos' and a pair of teal cowboy boots, and seems to have abandoned his cane for the moment, as it sticks straight upright out if the sand to the left of the screen.
After a few moments he seems to find what he's looking for, and from the base of one of the stones he clears away some of the sand and pries something free before walking back to the camera. He presents the items close to the screen, a small variety of rough natural crystals in varying shades or red, blue and yellow. He explains, excitedly, that the Thriving population of Sableye on Sky island was in part due to the incredibly rich corundum deposits here, offering more than enough gems for the mineral loving ghost types to be able to sustain a good population on the relatively small island.
He goes on to explain how mining or collecting these gems is highly illegal on this island, in an effort to protect the relatively rare species, as well as this genetically distinct population. As he rambles about the efforts of the Hoenn Wildlife Trust to protect the pokemon on this island more and more glimmering, gem like eyes can be seen peeking out from cracks and crevices in the rocks and cave entrances behind him. Maxx the Mareep wanders on screen behind Amy, eyeing the pokemon watching as a couple of the Sableye poke their heads out of their hiding spots to get a better look.
Maxx bleats a warning, but before Amy has a chance to turn around every one of the Sableye have disappeared back into the darkness. He looks back a few moments, looking around and back down at Maxx before chuckling at the pokemon's irritated huff. They seem to decide that the footage they have is enough, and walk back over to the camera, the view swinging wildly as he picks it up to turn it off.]
Pokemon Card of the Day #2945: Sky Pillar (Celestial Storm)
Sky Pillar was a Stadium that provided protection for any Pokemon on the Bench. When in play, all effects of the opponent's attacks, including damage, were prevented when they would be done to Benched Pokemon. This was rather nice for decks that relied on a lot of low HP Pokemon, with the note that a ton of decks were relying on Pokemon with very high HP Pokemon and didn't care too much here. Sky Pillar blocking effects was a perk over the Mew that was released later in Unbroken Bonds, as it meant that damage counter placements were also blocked. The other side to that was that Sky Pillar, as a Stadium, was more easily replaced, and Mew was more reliable.
Sky Pillar still saw a little play, however. Some control decks, namely those using things like Pidgeotto, Magcargo, or Cinccino to access the deck, really liked the extra security as those Pokemon didn't have a lot of HP and a lot of the Pokemon paired with them didn't either. Said decks, if using Sky Pillar, used it along with Mew, giving that extra layer to try to survive an opponent that broke through the lock for a moment. Mew was generally enough for a lot of those decks, too, so Sky Pillar saw a little use but wasn't too common by any means.
