Jeremiah’s Fisher’s New Horizons (post-canon headcannons/fanfic)
• I definitely think that Jeremiah would move away/start over somewhere new after Belly & Conrad get Married. Obviously, it would still bring an ache to his heart but he knows that he has to move on and start living the life he actually wants. Not what his loved ones think he should do, not the one that Adam tried to guilt trip him into. I think he would end up in Tx, specifically by the gulf coast.
• Susannah had always tried to encourage both boys to pursue their hearts desires. Especially if it was something that they really believed in. So 2 years after he finished his extra semester for his bachelor’s he decided to pursue a masters degree in marine biology, something that he always wanted but was told (specifically by Adam) that “studying the ocean all day was a waste of time when it was way too big”
•However, freshman year at finch he had to take an elective science and he saw intro to marine biology and in true Jere fashion thought “what the hell” and signed up for it. Being in the class reminds him of all the reasons he loves the ocean in the first place. It also reminds him of all those times him and Susannah would go exploring on the beach at cousins, trying to match the things they would find to Jeremiah’s book on the ocean ecosystem (a book that Susannah got him despite Adam’s teasing)
• The class leads him to change his minor the next day to marine biology, never really thinking to do anything with it but leaving the door open nonetheless. He aces all of the courses and joins the marine conservation club. Finally getting the best of both worlds (pleasing Adam and doing something for himself) . He finishes the minor and puts it on the back burner.
• Fast forward to the end of his last semester, he graduates & because he is still dealing with the fallout of his almost wedding, he decides to focus on getting a job to start paying Adam back as promised. He ends up working at Cousins marine life rescue and it again reignites his love for marine biology. He works there for 2 years to make sure that this is what he wants to do and to make sure to pay Adam back every cent. During those 2 years he befriends a woman named Leah, who ends up becoming a confidant, and one of his biggest supporters. It’s the first time in a long time that a person isn’t somehow connected to his family (besides Redbird who he still talks to)
• Leah is tough and doesn’t take anyone’s shit. She’s intelligent, beautiful, and kind. When Jeremiah first meets Leah he is taken aback by the overwhelming ease he feels around her. For once in his life, he doesn’t always have to be “sunshine boy” he’s still easygoing but the joy he used to have without even trying is harder to feel these days. But being at the rescue center, having something that he doesn’t have to justify to anyone around him helps.
• Leah & Jeremiah slowly but surely build a deep friendship one that feels like they can see through the other, straight to their souls. Leah tells him stories about growing up in Texas and all about her giant Mexican family that makes it easy to get lost in. She also says that despite it being difficult sometimes her family is her greatest strength. Her biggest supporters, and always encouraged her to pursue her dream of being an environmental lawyer. The more she talks about her family Christmas traditions and get togethers, the more Jeremiah realizes right then and there the extent of his family’s destruction. All the competition fueled by Adam and the way his mom tried to pretend that the irreversible damage done to her boys didn’t exist was something that he knew but didn’t realize still effected him.
• Leah was always careful about the way she went about these conversations, she would notice the look in his eyes when she would mention his upbringing. Always saying the bare minimum, not that she minded it wasn’t her place to pry. She knew it was complicated, he had told her about his failed engagement & the history of the love triangle. She knew that he had come here to rebuild himself for the future not dwell in the past
• Leah and Jeremiah were probably about as different in demeanor and looks as you can get but their outlook on the world, and beliefs were exactly the same. Where Leah was calculated and sometimes closed off Jeremiah was carefree and inviting. Leah was pragmatic and thoughtful, while Jeremiah went where his heart was at the moment. Jeremiah was like the sun, whereas Leah was the Moon. However, overtime, they began to learn from each other. Jeremiah helped Leah open up more, to see that sometimes you just had to trust. Leah helped Jeremiah see that his chill and easy-going approach to life wasn’t always the best choice. They balanced each other perfectly. They were the happiest when together, no one made Leah laugh more or made Jere feel more at peace. They even shared a secret obsession with Star Wars. His conversations with Leah inspired Jere to go to therapy, and from there it’s like the floodgates opened. Jeremiah no longer cared about what others, and specifically his father thought about any of his choices. He was proud of the life that he was building for himself, and he wasn’t going to apologize for it.
• Conrad, for his part was supportive. He knew exactly how It felt to confront their childhood and history as a family. Things between the brothers were tentative at first, but there was a real effort there to try and figure out who they were without their parents influence and what their relationship is like. Jeremiah generally kept his distance from his brother and belly, especially now that they had been back together for a year. Not that he completely disappeared, he always showed up for holidays and birthdays, but never overstayed his welcome despite what Conrad said about the Cousins house being his home too. Everyone knew that eventually Conrad and Belly would be the ones to truly call it their home. He was fine with it, he knew that deep down maybe it was always meant to be this way.
• When Jeremiah decided to pursue marine biology. It was Leah, who helped him figure out what to write in his personal statement. It was Leah that helped him apply for scholarships and grants so that he would never have to deal with Adam talking down on his dreams. And Leah that surprises him with letters of encouragement from everyone at the rescue center. He applies all over the country and eventually decides to attend Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, a small school on the south Texas gulf coast, conveniently where Leah is from.
• Leah gets into Law School at UT Austin, the two go out to celebrate and talk about moving to Tx and Leah teases him about the summers they way he used to tease her about the winters in Boston. They are happy and excited for the future. None more than Jeremiah who cries on his bed later that night because after everything that has happened in the past 2 and a 1/2 years, he never could’ve dreamed of where his life would be right now.
• On their last night in cousins, Jeremiah tells Leah he’s so lucky to be her best friend, that he can’t imagine his life without her in it and is so excited for what their future holds. Leah looks at him, with all this hope in his eyes and prays that he’s right. That they will always be together no matter what happens. She knows she already loves him more than anything she’s ever known and just hopes that she never has to say goodbye.
• Leah would eventually get her wish, at the end of their first semester of grad school. Jeremiah confessed that he was irrevocably in love with her and felt like his soul was always meant to be hers. The long distance wasn’t easy but their relationship was. They were a team in every aspect, being together was as easy and peaceful as breathing something neither of them had ever known before.
• When they attended Belly & Conrad’s wedding a year later, Jeremiah felt nothing but peace and fond nostalgia. For the good & the bad of his youth, for the childhood that his mom fought so hard to give them despite her world crumbling around her. For finally figuring out that he was worthy of love and family. Which he had found with Leah and her family who had accepted him as their own. As he watched Belly and Conrad wave at him from where they were driving off, he knew that they would all be okay.
• Speaking of family he actually had found another best friend in Cam Cameron, turns out he worked for the Texas State Aquarium and had offered Jeremiah a job there after graduating with his masters. He was even able to reconnect with his cousin Skye who although wasn’t dating Cam anymore was one of his closest friends. The six of them (Jere, Leah, Skye, Cam, and Cam and Skye’s girlfriends) became an inseparable group, the family support that Jere had always wanted.
• 2 years after Conrad & Belly’s Wedding Jeremiah and Leah got married at Cousin’s Marine Rescue Center Gardens with the reception at the beach house. Jere had even said his vows in Spanish (which he was now fluent in)Jeremiah was brought back to all those memories with Susannah and his summers at cousin’s and hoped one day his kids could have that too.
• As they sat together on the beach Jeremiah thought about the last time he sat on this beach the morning of his almost wedding to belly. He laughed to himself, because if only he had known the new horizon’s just around the corner. He knew in his heart that Susannah had been guiding him to this moment his whole life. He always said that his mom really got him, and he knew that she would be so proud of him. The thought alone made him feel as bright as the Sun
A/N: I chose Tx because I really didn’t want to put him In California because he deserved his own place with no comparison whatsoever. Jeremiah deserves better & this is what I thought it would look like. In a way Jenny Han not specifying Jere’s studies works out because who’s to say this doesn’t happen ? I may turn this into a short fanfic and flesh it out a lot more so we can really dive into Leah & Jeremiah but who knows, I’ve never written an actual fanfic before. I hope y’all enjoyed!
screw team conrad or team jeremiah, im team taylor and steven FOR LIFE. when they were dancing to frank ocean ?? when daniel ceaser came on ?? (died dead)
what if instead of conrad or jeremiah, belly chooses skye 😍😍😍
I am once again going to praise Skye’s character cause honestly if you look past that one bad thing they said about Susannah they’re really funny. I enjoy having them on the show, and the little romance they have with Cam is cute. I don’t care if it’s literal crumbs or if they aren’t even actually together. I have a vision in my head and i would very much like more of them.
also stop hating on skye guys they’re biggest crime is having mildly overfilled eyebrows like chill
ok y’all need to SHUT UP but I actually love Skye from tsitp
They may be a bit awkward and standoffish at first, but they genuinely are such a cool character!!
The fact that at first Skye seems a bit hesitant to make an effort to get along with Jeremiah and Conrad, but takes the leap of faith after being asked my Belly to come and hang for a day. PLUS standing up to their mom after she sold the house! Like they weren’t just standing up for the Fisher boys, but also helping their mom realize that her intentions were flawed and misguided.
Like, I LOVE that someone will look at things from multiple perspectives rather than just their parents, and that’s exactly what Skye did. AND THEY NEVER BACKED DOWN.
icon behavior
I know Skye is a controversial character and was likely a surprise to many fans. Change is not fun, and if you don't know many queer people or at the very least, not many genderqueer people, the entire concept of the character may be confusing.
So I just wanted to say that Nonbinary is a complicated label because there are nonbinary genders but also nonbinary can be a catagory, some people use it as a whole sale gender label and do not elaborate, others do have a gender identity it's just not 100% male or 100% female, or may even fall out of those categories completely. There are a million ways to be nonbinary, so not all nonbinary people look like Skye.
If you are unsure how to approach Skye in fanfics.
If you are curious about genderqueerness objectively.
If Skye is making you question yourself.
If you are wondering what a relationship between Cam and Skye would mean (i.e: is he gay?).
Anything else you can think of related to questions about Skye or queerness at all.
Feel free to reach out here. I'm more than happy to answer asks or make posts about Skye's Queerness and queerness in general.
I am a Genderqueer person, and I'm very chill, so its more than okay if you do not know any "correct words" so to speak. No one will be shamed for not knowing things either. Anon is an option too.
Take care and be kind to each other!
