Says the person who just had a fun day with her new friends from Melemele Island’s Pokémon School. God. Hapu’u has been growing quite a bit during the arc, I love it.

Man. This dialogue is so nice. Clichee, maybe, but in really good. Context: Kaki and Satoshi had angered Kapu-Rehire for accidentally doing damage to the Ruins of Hope. In order to save themselves from certain death (yes, they wanted their lives as payment for doing such a sin), this old man tasked Kaki to get Kapu-Tetefu/Tapu Lele’s scales within a time limit. While Kaki’s off doing that, the old man frees Satoshi from a force-field prison, and tells him he can save himself if he chooses to run, and they’ll take Kaki’s life instead. Trying to persuade to Satoshi that Kaki’s abandoned him. But Satoshi doesn’t believe him on bit. Throughout the rest of the ep, he never falters. He just stays there, sitting. It’s amazing how strong of a trust Satoshi has to Kaki. I love it. And then we learn this was a trial for Kaki. So I’m pretty sure the old man, which we can all pretty much say is Hapu’u’s grandpa Sofu’u, wanted to test Satoshi’s character here. Is he the kind to save himself over his friend, or is he trusting. And Satoshi proved to be the latter.

Anywho. Subtitles made me love this scene even more. Man.

While working on her research project, Lilie travels around Poni Island observing the various Pokémon living there. Suddenly, her older brother Gladio appears before her. Lilie is happy to be reunited with her brother, whom she hasn't seen in a while, but then Satoshi and Gladio end up having a battle between their Lugarugan. Māmane wants to evolve the "Battery Pokémon" Dendimushi into a Kuwagannon. After discovering that there's a mysterious power present in the Vast Poni Canyon, he heads to the valleys with Dendimushi in tow. Meanwhile, Suiren and the "Sea Lion Pokémon" Ashimari are unusually enthusiastic about learning all of their master I'a and the "Soloist Pokémon" Ashirene's moves. It's said that the guardian deity of Poni Island, Kapu-Rehire, shows itself at the Ruins of Hope, a sacred area on the island. As one would expect, Satoshi attracts Kapu-Rehire's anger when he battles his classmate Kaki on this holy ground. Satoshi ends up captured, and in order to have him released, Kaki has to run off and bring back scales from Akala's guardian deity Kapu-Tetefu within a strict time limit. Btw. In today’s ep, Sofu’u did a little test on Satoshi as well.

He tested his trust on Kaki. I believe Sofu’u tried to tell that Satoshi should just go, Kaki won’t come back, he won’t succeed in doing the task in time. He tried to falter Satoshi’s trust in Kaki succeeding. But Satoshi refused. He firmly believed in Kaki, deciding that he’ll stay put and wait, and just.... sat down. Satoshi is a good kid, and Kaki is a good kid. Good friends who trust each other in grave situations. Love them both. ♥
