Guzma vs Satoshi is still a real good battle. Ah. I may have wished to see more of Guzma, but I'm perfectly fine with his ending here 🥺
That said, time for the finals! I am SO excited for these episodes 😍
The love radiating from these frames!!!
Alola League arc discussion: do you think the anime will address Guzma’s relationship with his father?
Warning! Possible spoilers ahead. Continue reading otherwise.
As we approach the last few episodes of the Alola League arc, a few things have crossed my mind while watching the past couple of episodes of the Pokémon Sun and Moon series. In this week’s episode, we see the beginnings of one of the league’s most anticipated matches (Satoshi VS. Guzma). There is no doubt in my mind that Satoshi will defeat Guzma (unless there is a major plot twist) and we will see a complete emotional meltdown from Guzma.
Since Guzma’s anime debut, this chapter of the series has provided us with some decent background to his character (a rocky dynamic with Kukui and a scene of a younger Guzma rejecting Hala’s teachings) and most recently, a scene (referencing the ending to Guzma’s character debut in SM 115) to which Plumeria has to clean up the destroyed second and third place trophies and medals that Guzma had won. An episode back, (SM 135) Plumeria lets us in on a piece of information that the grunts do not know why Guzma has never lost a battle before. I believe in the next part of the semifinals, all of this will unfold.
This leads me to wonder if the anime will ever touch on the not so subtle in game implication that Guzma was abused by his father. Given how the Alola League arc is wrapping up (and that Pokémon is a show geared towards kids), I would be very shocked if this was depicted in the anime, however, a part of me would not be surprised if this was depicted (or hinted at at least) in the anime. Thus far, this the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime in general has done an excellent job in addressing some touchier subjects in life (death of a loved one) and it would not come as a shock for the anime to show us that Guzma had a rough upbringing.
What do you all think?
Ash’s Meltan will evolve into Melmetal during the Alola Pokemon League
So Ash will use Melmetal against Gladion.
I dunno if I’m just easily manipulated by well placed music (I am) but I just love the way Kokoro no Note was used in this episode so much that I actually shed a few tears for this man Guzma, even though I don’t think his story turned out to be THAAAT gripping or well developed (still can’t feel much for Plumeri, there’s nothing wrong with her role in this arc but she needed something of her own beforehand to really be a character), they pretty much just went through the most basic steps with him that we all figured out ages ago, and Satoshi didn’t really do much to earn his hatred or respect, I mean Suiren refused to give up after taking WAY harsher of a beating, why didn’t she remind Guzma of Kukui? But, the message is still valuable, and the battle was pretty good, I love how the Z-move scene played out and Pikachu’s hand walk Iron Tail was hilarious and cool, and of course Gusokumusha would get a classic samurai finish, given its origins and way of using Aqua Break/Liquidation like a samurai sword. The new Mezase instrumental caught me off guard, that is DEFINITELY something they made with the finals in mind first in foremost, if Satoshi loses seems kind of a waste lol. Animation was kinda conservative for Iwane so I would bet that we have another ep from him coming up either with the second episode of Satoshi VS Glazio or, more likely if Satoshi wins, VS Kukui. So like, unless Sakaki pulls some last minute schenanigans I guess SM won’t have an arc after the league cause Team Skull aren’t gonna cause issues anymore. I’ve seen some people say that Necrozma needs another arc but I think all the foreshadowing done before its initial one was for that time only, rather than for the more distant future. But guess we’ll see~
