Since there are (canon) psychic powers that specialize in communication with and control over plants and animals, and some that get even *more* specific, I'm just going to pretend that the knowledge surrounding those things is much more advanced than it actually was back then. This is because I am not good at retaining date-related information, and I don't want to be googling "What did we discover in the 70s/80s" every time I want a character to passionately rant about something.

There are certain things I want to keep vague. I'm not gonna make up answers for things we don't know in the present day, and things that I know were only discovered recently will be referred to as scientific theory and/or recent study results. Or some kid's stab in the dark for what's actually going on.

Why am I pushing recent scientific advancements into the 80s instead of making a modern AU? Because I like the 80s. The style, the conflict, the alt culture explosion. I just think it's neat.
