So about that Code Infected AU Joel.... [pt1?]
hi ebie u have no friends
I would’ve put this under your Impjoel ask but I already responded to that oops.
Joel was acting weird and Impulse wasn’t sure why.
He had been more distant than normal and that could only really mean one thing, Impulse had missed something.
It wasn’t an anniversary, because he had all of those saved on multiple calendars, and it couldn’t have been a date or Joel would’ve been way more on his ass about it. But what could it be?
Impulse went his entire day pondering what he had missed. The whole time at work, his drive home, while he made dinner, when he waited for Joel to get home. And he couldn’t figure it out. No clue.
Joel slammed the door on his way in. “Did you have a nice day?” Impulse called. No response. He wandered over to the front door, where Joel was taking off his shoes. He still didn’t respond to Impulse. “Anything important happen?”
Joel gave him a disappointed side eye. “Did you make dinner?”
“Yep! Ready to eat whenever you are.”
“I’m gonna change first then.” Seemed like Joel was still mad at him. Impulse just wish he knew why. Joel sighed. “Are you sure you don’t need anything else from the fridge?” He asked before heading back to their room.
Impulse quickly went to the fridge. What was he missing there? There wasn’t anything new in there, and the only new thing in the freezer was the pie he made to try fix the Joel thing. He closed the door in disappointment. What was it?
He stood, staring at the door. They didn’t have a different fridge he was missing. Unless Joel bought a new fridge and that was what he was missing, except Joel wouldn’t have done that without talking about it with him.
God it felt like it was so obvious.
Impulse leaned his head against the fridge door, the slight humming of the machine clearing his head. He opened his eyes and stared at the one thing in his vision, a paper note stuck to the door that had the words ‘HI IMPY’ written on it.
He was so stupid.
Impulse pulled the piece of paper off the fridge, on the back it had another message that read ‘Have a nice day at work! <3’.
He must’ve missed it when he made breakfast and again when he made dinner, Impulse wasn’t sure how either. But it was clearly what made Joel sad, and he new the best way to make it up to him.
Impulse set the food on the table as Joel came back, fully changed. And based on his expression it seemed like he had come to terms to Impulse not responding.
“So how was work?” Joel asked him as they started eating.
“Same old, same old. Zed’s gone about the most roundabout way to get something done and Tango still claiming his work isn’t good enough. At least Skizz is helping them stay on task. To a degree.”
“Their lucky to have you as their manager. And your lucky to have them.” Joel chuckled.
The conversation grew quiet as they finished off their food. Joel quietly grabbed the dishes and brought them back to the sink, washing them somberly.
Impulse knew that his relationship wasn’t going to end over him missing a note, but it was making his boyfriend sad, and he could have that happen.
He moved into the kitchen, sliding up behind Joel, laying his hands over his. The shorter man looked up at Impulse with a questioning expression.
“I think you should wait to do the dishes.” Joel said.
“Why?”
“Because,” Impulse pushed away from him, moving back towards the fridge and pulled open the freezer door with a gesture. “I made pie.”
Joel’s eyes went wide. “You did?!”
“Well yeah.” Impulse pulled his boyfriend close, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “I had to respond to your note.”
A smile danced across Joel lips. “And here I thought you had missed it.” He teased.
“Me? Miss something? Never.” Impulse said with a matching smile.
Joel pulled Impulse down into a kiss. When they separated, he whispered “Hi Impy.”
“Hi Joel.” Impulse pecked one more kiss to his lips. “So you ready for pie?”
“Yes please!”
