Currently thinking about submerging this in some resin and creating some sort of art piece
I have a First Gen Smartrip gathering dust in a drawer since First Gen cards were discontinued. Might as well put it to use.

Upgraded to my first #Smartrip card instead of always getting paper cards. On our way to the White House!
Don't have enough to get out of Metro? Exitfare is here for ya!
The Benefits to Smartrip cards
ICS’ Transportation department works closely with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and has many contracts with the Metrorail system. We have helped with the Red Line Rehabilitation project, (for more information click here: http://www.ics-nett.com/services-3/transportation-2/trans-proj/).
For the ease and convenience many people use public transportation daily to get to and from work, school or to site see around the district. There are many reasons to use mass transit and using paper fare cards versus the SmarTrip® cards there are advantages to each. However, many of the SmarTrip® advantages may make you think twice before purchasing another paper fare card.
What are SmarTrip® cards?
A SmarTrip® card is a permanent, rechargeable card used to pay Metrorail and local bus system fares. It's plastic, like a credit card, and is embedded with a special computer chip that keeps track of the value of the card.
Using a SmarTrip® card is fast and easy. Instead of inserting a farecard through the Metrorail faregate slot, you simply touch the SmarTrip® card to the circular targets on top of or inside station faregates. Likewise, you can tap the SmarTrip® farebox on Metrobus to pay your fare with SmarTrip®.
• Savings
SmarTrip® card users pay lower Metrorail fares because they avoid the $1 paper farecard surcharge.
Free Metrobus to Metrobus transfers with unlimited Metrobus connections (including round trips) within a two-hour period.
A 50¢ discount when transferring from Metrobus to Metrorail or vice versa within a two-hour period.
Ease
You can pay fares for several transit systems with just one card: WMATA Metrorail and Metrobus, DC Circulator, Maryland Transit Administration Local Bus, Light Rail and Metro Subway, Alexandria DASH, Fairfax Connector, Fairfax CUE, Arlington ART, Loudoun County Transit, PRTC OmniRide, Prince George's County TheBus, Montgomery County Ride On, and registered van pools.
You may add up to $300 in stored value on a SmarTrip® card, or better yet set it up for Auto Reload, so you can spend less time waiting in line at fare vending machines.
A SmarTrip® card will let you take one trip that results in a negative balance, but value must be added before it can be used again on Metrorail or Metrobus.
Safety
You can register a SmarTrip® card to protect its balance. For the cost of a card, we'll transfer your card balance at the time it was lost, stolen or damaged to a new SmarTrip® card.
