Hi! I study law and wanted to know more about your death row outsiders au! :) Is Cherry defending him as a lawyer? Also how did he get off of death row? Was he exonerated? Was his case overturned?

Oh boy-I don’t study law so please lmk if anything I’m saying doesn’t really sound right-

Okay so I kind of think Cherry would try to clear his name like she did in the book? She’s not a lawyer herself but she managed to get her family to pay for a pretty good one on behalf of Ponyboy and the Curtises. I’m not sure if that can be how it works since like…I’ve obviously never been in this kind of situation, but I think that since the Curtises can’t exactly afford their own, either 1. Cherry would pay for one or 2. The state would probably just assign someone to the case, but regardless, they managed to convict Pony because of their own biases against hoods and greasers and such, even if he as wrongfully convicted. Another thing is I feel like the Socs tried to contaminate some of the evidence (i.e. the switchblade) to try and make it look even more obvious that Pony was guilty. The reason there doing this too is pretty much because they already lost Johnny, so they wanted to get rid of Pony who “also played a part in the murder”-from what I’ve read the death penalty wasn’t made illegal for minors until somewhere between the late 1970s to the early 2000s, (EDIT-Just read that it was 1988 that people under 15 at the time of their crime were exempt from the death penalty so yeah, Pony will be 15 or so)

I’m not sure how the whole lawyer thing would work-ai think that while Darry and Soda are trying to get Pony exonerated, Cherry and even Randy would get him lawyers to try and get him at the least a stay of execution. I know that the death penalty bong carried out has an average of 10-15 years of being carried out but I think they’d want Pony gone as soon as possible because of personal biases and such—at least that’s how it was supposed to work in this au-Pony and his brothers/Cherry and Randy even tried to send in appeal after appeal and some of them got far enough—he did get a stay of execution for a few days which he thanks his lucky stars for, but I think that he just ends up being exonerated because I think usually when cases happen like this where the person is still guilty but they’re also “not suitable for the death penalty” they get life without parole (i think) but I think he gets exonerated like…the day of his execution, when he’s already strapped to the chair with the hood over his head

I’ll admit I have to do a lottttt of research about the actual legality and stuff since my morbid curiosity with death row comes more from how the executions work and stuff like that-like i’m pretty sure in oklahoma at least there were different forms of execution back then but that doesn’t matter-i hope i got at least like…part of the legal stuff right? Feel free to correct me if I haven’t!

I dunno, I just kind of have a morbid curiosity for this kind of thing-that probably makes me sound weird, huh? abut I dunno, I thought this AU could have a lot of potential-I know of one case where someone was sentenced to the gas chamber but was found innocent so I’m loosely basing it off that? It’s still a work in progress tho

I see soda having a asthma attack and he was farting while doing so,darry was getting a inhaler while the rest(minus pony and soda) were giggling also pony developes asthma and ends up in the same situation only he breaks down as he felt back for some reason

nah steve laughs at his ass i’ll be so honest 😭 like it happens at work once and he really shouldn’t be laughing but he just can’t help it as he passes Soda his inhaler-soda totally has asthma in my hc lol

it’s not really my place to talk about that.

but here’s what i will say. i wish disney would come up with ofiginal ideas instead of just remaking old movies. like look, i could give two shits less about what race a princess is cast as. representation is important and i know, at least from when they made frozen, and elsa was a princess who looked just like me, i was completely elated. and it’s important for other children to have a princess that they can see themselves in, albeit it shouldn’t just be skin tone wise. children should be able to see themselves personality wise in princesses too. (fw-i remember the whole “*GASP* THEY MADE ARIEL BLACK!!1!1!!1!1 THATS NOT ACCURATE!!! MERMAIDS ARENT BLACK!!1!1!1!” like tfym it’s not accurate lmao? like white mermaids don’t exist either. mermaids aren’t fucking real-i swear the extreme conservatives during that whole thing made me laugh my ass off. it’s a fish movie. it’s not that deep. it’s important to have representation)

but i personally feel indifferent. i just wish disney would be more creative and stop making shit movies because they’re all either remakes or they’re the same “AdOrKaBle FeMalE lEaD wHoS sEcReTlY a PrIncEsS! Featuring marketable side characters/cute animal sidekick because BUY OUR TOYS’ y’know? like i miss disney before encanto tbh. no hate to encanto. that was a fire movie. everything afterward though…

also for the record before i get anyone being l “Oh SkIpPeRs A RiGhT wInG eXtReMiSt!’ jo. I’m not. if anything i’m more left leaning. but i’m not a left extremist. theres a difference between being a centralist and being far right/left. there’s also a difference between not being a pc prude who finds offense in the tiniest things and then goes to cry about it on tiktok versus thinking that representation is important for youth. for example if disney ever made a character with albinism i would be all on board. he’ll, if disney made a disabled character period i would be elated. but i digress.

Snape/Ron?

i really like snarry - and i really dislike snamione - as pairings, but i'd never devoted any time to thinking about snon as a ship before.

and yet now i'm pretty intrigued...

because i think you're going to have with this the same thing that you have with pairing ron with voldemort [which i have become a pretty ardent champion of this year] - that, while ron's canonical relationship to either man completely lacks the overt narrative connections which help make snarry and tomarrymort plausible, his character traits, above all his tendency to occupy a caring role within the trio, gives him a way to establish a connection which could feasibly be made to work as romantic.

because ron doesn't like snape - obviously - but his enmity with him is much less profound than harry's - he just dislikes a mean, unfair teacher, rather than having to bear the burden of snape's hatred of james and love for lily - and therefore something easier for him to put aside. while he holds grudges with far more commitment than harry does, ron is also canonically pragmatic and a strategist - and he is usually the member of the trio who grasps big-picture plot arcs [including the purpose of dumbledore's beyond-the-grave machinations in deathly hallows] the quickest for this reason. i actually think it's extremely likely that he accepts that snape's loyalties were to the anti-voldemort cause the moment harry tells him about the memories, and that - in a scenario in which snape lives - he would regard it as entirely reasonable for snape to be pardoned post-war and spared azkaban.

[i also think ron would think without hesitation that snape saved george's life. and that this would matter to him.]

ron was also raised correctly, which means that when harry insists on visiting spinner's end the day snape's let out of st mungo's he's going to accompany his best mate to make sure snape doesn't try to hex him. and he will, therefore, find himself turning into his mother the second he realises that snape's cupboards are bare and that he doesn't have a clue how to look after himself.

snape would obviously loathe being fussed over. but what's he going to do about it? he's lost most of his blood.

and it's clear in canon that snape is disastrously susceptible to anyone who takes an interest in him - and ron turning up to chatter and make cups of tea is a much healthier way for this tendency to manifest than snape becoming a terrorist because voldemort was nice to him a couple of times.
