✨Blood On The Clocktower Affirmations✨
by u/welwoe on reddit!
Sam Reich has entered his "I've been playing a lot of Clocktower and I want to do social deduction games" era of Game Changer.
Actually really nice to know that Sam is also out there shoving his current interests into all his other projects.
The feeling you get after figuring out the entire social deduction logic puzzle on night one and are getting prepared to absolutely dominate the debate before getting your head blown smooth off because you already got a fake voted round one.
Came up with a Project Moon themed variant of Mafia last night before falling asleep, and I'm now making it everyone else's problem.
“Syndicate” is a Project Moon themed variant of “Mafia”. Basic Premise: The game is comprised of five different roles. The “Syndicate” rol
Still in disbelief at the absolute CLUTCH play I somehow managed to pull off (so much of it was just circumstances enabling me to do so) yesterday in 'Blood on the Clocktower'.
Short version, for those who know Bad Moon Rising: I was the Moonchild who convinced everyone I was the Goon, got killed by the Assassin, and convinced the evil team I was one of them. 😈
Longer version:
So, in Bad Moon Rising there are two very specific outsiders.
One is the Moonchild. When the Moonchild dies, they pick a player. If the player is good, they die that night.
Another is the Goon. The Goon starts as good, but whoever is the first player to pick the Goon with their ability each night changes the Goon to their own alignment.
I was the Moonchild, but because of how I was acting, people assumed I was the Goon. I leaned into it, claimed Goon. Fudged it enough that I could back out if needed.
I then died at night, to an Assassin (Minion who can kill no matter what protections a character has on them). I picked a player as Moonchild. They did not die. They were evil.
I could have outed them. I chose not to, because people think I'm the Goon, and what are the odds that there is another Goon in play who will get turned Evil if the Evil team finds out I'm not real? High (there was, they got to final 3 as good). So I pretended to be the Evil Goon and went to look for my team, fake panicking when I couldn't find them.
The Assassin came to me, having believed everything I was saying, and told me they had turned me Evil. They confirmed a Minion (the person I knew), and an evil traveller. They didn't tell me the Demon, but I guessed the Demon from context clues, went to them, got their trust. Suddenly I have the entire evil team not only trusting me, but trying to calm me down, giving me advice, and just generally taking me under their wing.
I then outed them in final three, we killed the Demon, town won. 😇
What is the limit between "TTRPG" and "Board Game"
Like, nobody would say 'monopoly' counts as a TTRPG, it's ridiculous, but when you start to deconstruct the idea of an RPG to the basic components of "any game in which you roleplay a character" you start to notice things like... "Creating" the character of your roleplay isn't really obligatory, technically you can have a TTRPG where you are handed the role you'll play... "Sandbox" aspect is completely optional too, there isn't really a need for full player autonomy and choice within the gameplay, as long as they are playing the role it's technically a game... "Exploring/Problem solving/Combat" are all optional, a lot of TTRPGs have one or another, sometimes all 3, but in fact they aren't needed... "Progression" is also optional, character growth can be non-existent and you still roleplay... well you technically don't even need 'stats' at all, just a description of said role... "What is a game even?" like, for real... I can't find people agreeing on a definition of the term, for the sake of this experiment I'll say it involves at least SOME input... By all these metrics "town of Salem" is technically a TTRPG... you are handed a role you play (in this case, in secret) you even have full autonomy on how you play the role, a character objective, and freedom to problem solve your way through social deduction!... but it isn't a TTRPG now, is it?... is it?...
Printable Blood on the Clocktower Nametags
I hope these don't compress too much and you can print them. They're exactly A4, so if you print them without extra edges, they fit into nametag holders of 8.9cm x 5.5cm (meaning they're slightly smaller).
I tried to make the icons slightly lighter or darker than the tag, but I think sometimes I hit the wrong hue...
If you have other or more ideas, let me know! Also, if you use them in your group, too, please also let me know; it would make me so happy! :) Tell me which ones they liked!
