chapter six!
06. jailbreak and detonations
IT'S BEEN THREE DAYS since that nightmare, and the whole jail floor has been eerily quiet again. Soka had gone to check the blind woman's abandoned cell but it looks exactly the same every other time she checked it.
So, instead, Soka circled her cell a few times, unsure of what to do. It quickly turned out she didn't need to figure out what to do because within a few minutes the alarms overhead started to blare.
Soka practically jumped out of her skin, watching as the world around her devolved into red lights and pitchy screams. The wailing and banging activated with the alarms, and to Soka's relief, a small team of guards raced down the hall past her cell.
The sounds of shooting started shortly after overhead, and Soka listened patiently, heart pattering in her chest, as the shooting slowly came down the levels.
Within the hour, the shooting was on her level.
Soka squinted and could sort of see what was going on. A group of people in armour (was that turquoise?) were taking down the guards. Soka was mighty pleased to see the guards be taken down, they hadn't been treating her all too nice during her time here.
The invaders finished off the guards and Soka watched, interested, as they stalked down the hall, looking into cells. Maybe they were here for the Pike Syndicate member that was brought in a few days ago? Soka nodded to herself, that seemed likely.
"Who are you nodding to?" a young female voice spoke up.
Soka looked up, startled, to find one of the invaders, but tiny. Soka blinked at her, mouth agape. "What?"
"Omega, who are you talking to?" A male voice scolded the young invader. A tall invader came into view of her cell. He had prominent goggles taking over the visor position in his helmet. "Hunter!" he called out as the young invader—Omega— took a step back.
An invader shorter than the goggled one walked into view. Hunter, the goggled one called him. Goggles moved over to the pad connected to her laser door while Hunter looked down at Omega.
Omega must've understood because she moved back, stepping out of view, and started to whisper to herself. Soka belatedly realized Omega was relaying information into a comm.
"You're Sokanara Tanobi, correct?" Goggles said as the pad sparked and flickered before dying out, the laser door dropping. Soka watched in awe.
"Correct?" he repeated.
Soka nodded her head quickly, turning her gaze to Goggles. "Yeah, yeah." she paused frowning, "...what's it to you?"
Goggles stuck out a hand as if to introduce himself, "I am Tech. We are here to rescue you."
"Yeah!" Omega chirped in, causing Hunter to send her a hand signal which had her grumbling.
Soka watched the interaction with curiosity. "Does he- Hunter, does he not speak?"
Tech tilted his head, she could see his eyes bouncing around her face, wondering why she was asking this question. "He can." Tech spoke measuredly.
"I just prefer not to."
The voice sent tingles down her spine and Soka turned to look where Hunter had taken off his helmet, crouched next to Omega who had also taken off her helmet.
He was checking her helmet for damages, and Omega was just finding fun in wearing Hunter's. It was clearly too large for her, slipping oddly onto her face, loose around the edges. Omega's hands still stimmed with glee.
A beep to Tech's comm had him scowling before taking a blaster and a datapad from his hip. Soka hadn't even noticed they were there. "Echo's pinpointed more guards coming down to our level, we must move."
Omega slipped off Hunter's helmet, passing it back to him, before taking her own and putting it back on. Hunter did the same to his helmet and held a finger to a round disc on the sides of his helmet. She heard him speaking, the voice muffled by the helmet, before raising a hand and pointing it down the hall opposite that they had come in.
"Wrecker said there's a hidden opening on that side. We've gotta blast it open." Hunter relayed.
Omega's face brightened, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a detonator. Hunter's body tensed in alarm. "What on terra-" he cursed, "Did Wrecker give you that?"
Omega nodded, pulling out some more detonations to match the detonator. "He told me he wanted me to blow something up." Omega shrugged, passing them to Tech who had his hands out. Tech inspected the detonations before nodding firmly to himself, starting down the hall.
Hunter sighed, "Why does no one listen to me," he mumbled sourly as he followed after Tech. Omega looked up at Soka, "C'mon miss! let's go!"
Soka nodded, pushing her legs into motion to jog alongside Omega. Soka briefly looked at the empty cell of the blind woman, a shudder running through her as a vision of bloodied worms flashed in her mind. She tore her gaze away and ran a bit faster to catch up with Omega when she realized she had slowed down.
They reached the other two, who were talking quite animatedly about the explosives. Tech was telling Hunter to set the explosives already due to the limited time they had, while Hunter was saying he didn't want to over-explode the wall as to bring attention to them.
"Aren't the guards already coming down?" Soka inputted as she slowed to a stop beside Omega. Tech waved an exasperated hand at Soka as if to say "see?" at Hunter.
As if to prove Tech's point even further, a bolt from a blaster shot zipped past the group and embedded itself into the wall. It almost seemed like Hunter had already sensed it coming since he snagged Omega, pulling her down to the ground, as the blaster shot was close to aiming at her.
Tech kicked into high gear as well, grabbing Soka's arm and tugging her behind him. Tech passed Soka some explosives and without a word, started to shoot back at the guards. Hunter did the same, and Soka watched as Omega pulled out a large bow and zipped out neon pink arrows.
The trio didn't need communication, a few hand signals was all it took for them to change tactics whenever it was needed.
They had evidently decided to tuck themselves to the grooves in the wall, Tech dragging Soka belatedly with him, and ducked in and out of shooting at the cockroaches of guards appearing.
"As one falls, another just takes it's place!" Hunter called out, irritated.
"Change of tactics!" Tech replied, a few fingers flying in the air at Hunter's direction. Maker if Soka knew what on terra it meant, but Hunter seemed to understand just fine. He pulled a popper out of his pocket and launched it at the horde of guards.
A zapping filled the air, and before Soka could blink, Tech snatched some of the explosives from her hands and tossed it towards Hunter. Hunter caught it easily and passed it to Omega, to which he explained something to her. Omega nodded and Tech turned to Soka.
"Follow Omega's lead, she will explain what you need to do." He said before rushing after Hunter, who Soka hadn't even realized had left.
Maker, she'd be a really bad spy.
Soka turned to find Omega already scaling the wall behind them, easily placing her explosives in a half circle.
"Omega, what do I do?" Soka called out over the blaster fire. Omega turned to her with a beam, "Just toss me the explosives when I ask for it!"
They worked in almost perfect sync, save for some of Soka's awful tosses, and soon a decent detonation circle was created on the wall.
Omega reached to her side and clicked a button on the side of her comm. It buzzed three times and Omega took a step back. "C'mon," she said with a gesture.
Soka followed Omega into the grooves in the wall, tucking themselves into it, while supposedly waiting for something.
That something came a few seconds later, some blaster fire following, and Tech and Hunter slipped into view.
This time, Tech got to Omega first and curled himself around her. Soka watched in confusion as Hunter came up to her, hands empty and open towards her.
"We're gonna set off the detonations, turn your face to the wall and cover your ears." He told her. Soka nodded, doing as he said, and felt his presence behind her as he tucked himself against her like Tech did to Omega. Hunter's gloves felt surprisingly cold over her hands as he guided them to cover her ears, helping to muffle the world around her.
The ground shook under them and within a second Hunter had removed himself from covering Soka, grabbing her shoulder and turning her around. "Alright, let's go."
Tech and Omega had already removed themselves from the grooves, and were returning blaster fire through the smoke. Hunter led Soka through the hole in the wall, revealing a big vast canyon before them. It was one of the grand openings to the lower-levels, Soka realized.
There was no where to run, except to tuck themselves into the side of the wall, and shuffle along.
And did that Soka did, having watched Hunter duck back into the building to help bring out Omega and Tech.
While Soka waited against the wall, shivering and heart pounding, the whir of a ship caught her attention. She watched as fire spewed out of the backside, the ship coming closer to her current position.
Soka swallowed thickly, thinking she was done for. She tried to shuffle along the wall to get back to the entrance of the exploded hole, when Omega burst out of the hole, Tech and Hunter following respectively.

chapter four!
04. tragedy and betrayal
ONLY TWO DAYS had passed since Soka was forced into a jail cell and told that her trial would be coming soon. She trusted that Joqin had met with Senator Chuchi the morning after her arrest, but it still didn't quell the unease within her.
She paced around her cell, her skin a sickly pale pink to reflect her current state of mind. She was scared, of course. How couldn't she be when her life seemed to fall down the drain within just a day?
Before she could dive deeper into the rabbit hole of her mind, a guard appeared in front of the lasers of her cell. "Your trial." The guard told her, not bothering to clarify.
Soka's face and heart dropped. This is the moment where the senate would decide if she had truly committed treason, and since half of the senate didn't favour her political stance, she was sure they would say yes.
The guard unlocked her cell and cuffed her as she followed him to the senate court, her body in a daze. She barely registered arriving to the senate and only regained awareness of her surroundings when they pushed her into a pod and brought her to the middle of the room.
Minutes passed from her arriving and the entire time was spent with her being stared at like an animal in a cage. Rampart finally arrived, his sickly smirk already on his face.
"Senator Sokanara Tanobi." He said loudly, his voice booming throughout the room. "It seems.. you have committed treason." Hushed whispers and haughty smirks scattered across the senate and Soka stood numbingly still as she listened to it all.
A hologram rose next to Rampart and grew in size until it was big enough for everyone in the senate to see it. The hologram was of her talking to a group of blurry clones, her back to the holovideo. Her voice was faintly heard, and spiked in random intervals.
"Desertion... Empire... Join... Against... Senate..." were a few words of the many she spoke, but they were the ones that were heard clearer to the senate. Soka watched as the hologram of herself hugged a clone and exchanged codes with Rex, though his face was blurred and dim due to 79's lightings, thank the maker, and then her body turned into full view of the hologram and she left 79's while talking to Joqin about hacking imperial files. Soka's face burned in embarrassment as she watched the past version of herself, blissfully unaware of the person that had been stalking her.
She knew that this hologram had been tampered to only pick up the pieces of information that would be used against her, but this was physical proof against her, something she did not have unless she brought the clones in to testify. Which she would never do as that would put them in danger.
Rampart smirked as the holovideo ended and the hologram retreated into its projector. "You saw how she spoke to those clones, convincing them to join her in her treason against the Empire!" The whispers that had been hushed during the holovideo returned in full force. She heard some fighting for her, while others expressed their want for her to be executed.
Soka's eyes widened and she shrunk in her seat as she watched senators that she thought she knew turn their back on her. The only strong trust she had was in Senator Organa and Senator Chuchi, and she knew that would never be enough.
"We will cast a vote!" Rampart started to say, but Soka sat up quickly in her seat, a protest slipping past her lips before she could think. Rampart turned to her, head cocked in an arrogant manner.
"Do you wish to speak to the senate and plead your case?" He asked, no heart in his tone.
Soka opened her mouth but nothing came out in her defense. Rampart nodded, "That is what I thought."
He turned back to the senate once more and Soka dwindled in her seat, her heart in her hands and she twisted it into an unrecognizable mess as Rampart opened the votes.
Five minutes passed and the harsh whispers seemed to finally die down as the votes were finalized.
A hologram projected two colors, blue and red. The red side had more votes than the blue.
The senate found Soka to be guilty.
...Guilty?
Soka's vision tunneled in on the numbers and her world seemed to be caving in on her. Her ears buzzed loudly and she clenched her jaw, crushing the scream that bubbled in the back of her throat.
She was guilty of a charge that she didn't even commit.
She suppressed the urge to puke, her hands grasping at her chest and trying to pry it open so she could rip out her heart and stop the emotions that she was feeling.
Her life was over and it felt like she had barely started it.
Tear drops fell from her eyes as she stared blankly at the hologram.
How could it have come to this?
How did I... lose?
She turned her gaze to find Organa in the crowd of jeering Senators. He was already staring at her sadly.
'I'm sorry," his eyes cried to her. He looked at her as though she were a piece of glass resting on a pedestal, and he was too far away to catch her as the cosmos trembled around them, intent on causing her to fall.
Truly, a tragedy.
Her eyes drifted to Chuchi, who looked about ready to leap from her pod and smash Rampart in the face. The fire in Chuchi's stare was the final straw. There was no coming back from this.
Soka breathed in deeply, strengthening her resolve, and with her heart shattering loudly in her chest, she turned away from the Senate for the final time.
She let herself be lead out from the building to where they were going to bring her back to the imperial jail. It seemed her sentence was predetermined, like they knew she would fail.
You betrayed the Senate and the Empire, they had told her, being in jail is the best sentence you could get.
She didn't betray the Senate. She didn't betray anyone.
But she knew from Rampart's smug smile, there was she could do nothing about it.

chapter one!
01. trivial matters and a cocktail
WHISPERS ROSE THROUGHOUT the massive dome room as Senators talked together about trivial matters. Senator Sokanara Tanobi tapped a button on her pod, loosely holding the handles as the pod moved to conjoin with Senator Bail Organa's pod.
"Senator," she greeted with a smile. The pods bumped together gently before latching onto each other magnetically.
"Hello Senator Tanobi," Organa greeted diplomatically, not looking up from the screen ingrained into the pod, "Do you have a matter to discuss?"
Soka continued to grin at him, leaning back slightly in her pod. "Can't one come to a friend to say hi?"
A breathy snort came from Organa as he pulled away from the screen on his pod. "Oh yes, but I feel that you would have done so outside of the council meeting rather than now, so I suspect that you are up to something."
Soka's smiled brightened as she jumped up, practically leaning across her pod into the side of Senator Organa's pod as she stared up at him with glimmering eyes.
"You know me too well, Orgy." A laugh came from the younger female as a look of disgust appeared on Organa's face. "Have you no shame? Never call me that again." Organa told her sternly, glancing around briefly to make sure no one overheard her embarrassing, and frankly very suggestive, nickname.
Soka shrugged, "Teasing you is all part of the fun," she tapped her fingers on the outline of her pod, "and I'm quite bored, so I would say no, I currently have no shame."
Organa raised an eyebrow at the Senator who was tracing the curved metal lines that ran along the outside of the pod. He sighed as he presented the room with his arm to Soka, "You do realize you are standing in one of the most dignified and important places in all of Coruscant, and you are complaining that you are bored? Shouldn't you go interact with other senators instead of bugging me?"
Soka glanced up at Organa, a teasing glint in her eye. "Now," she started, "why would I go converse with people who think that clones do not deserve a place in the galaxy like us?" Organa furrowed his brow, trying to figure out where Soka was taking the conversation, "I think it's quite harming actually, to speak with people who have such low intelligence like them. I might lose a brain cell or two just by listening to their stupidity."
Organa pursed his lips, trying not to laugh at Soka's blatant roast. "Now now Tanobi, I think you should be generous when speaking about your elders like that. You are lucky that they aren't currently swarming you for your harsh words."
"Of course they wouldn't swarm me, Organa, they are so old that they can't hear what I am saying anyways." Soka put her hands to her hips in a mocking manner, swinging her right hip to the side. Organa rolled his eyes at Soka's sass, barely having to lean forward as he flicks her easily upon the head.
Soka scowled as she held a hand up to her forehead, peeking up at Organa through her lashes. "So, so cruel. Whatever have I faulted you for?"
Organa smirked at Soka, "I swear I feel like your father at times. You are just a silly child who does not understand the trouble she could be in if others had heard her thoughtless words."
Soka sighed, opening her mouth to retort, but the bell sounded, ending the break and signaling the ending of the session. Soka waved goodbye at Organa as she clicked a button on her pod, watching the magnetic force dwindle and turn off, the two pods detaching once the shield was diminished.
Soka and Organa both clicked a small orange button which turned their pods to return to its home spot in the massive wall. Other pods around them did the same, the room shining from the glint of metal dancing around the room before coming to a stop.
Soka turned to the right, noticing the young blue senator in the pod next to her. The Senator looked quite frazzled from the talk she must have just had with the other senators, causing Soka to frown in response.
"Senator Chuchi?" She asked gently, catching the young girl's attention. Chuchi turned her gaze from her pod screen to Soka's own gaze. "Ah, yes. So sorry, what were you saying?" She asked, her hands visibly shaking from anger or from nerves, Soka couldn't tell.
"Are you quite alright? You seem a bit shaken." Soka asked, reaching a hand out to comfort the young woman. Even though Soka was quite a young Senator, joining the council when she was at the bright age of 22, Senator Chuchi looked to be even younger.
A hum came from Chuchi as she thought over her answer before clenching her hands into small fists. "The other senators and I had a bit of a quarrel since we didn't agree to each others statements."
Soka bit her lip and a breezy laugh came from her. "Ah yes, those old squirts. Might I ask what you all were debating about?"
Chuchi's gaze hardened and she turned her gaze into a glare at the Senators she was talking to a short while ago. "The rights of the clones."
A smile came to Soka's face, "Ah, clones. They are quite interesting beings, aren't they?" Chuchi whipped her head to stare at Soka, a distrustful look on her face. "Interesting?" She asked, "in what way?"
Soka nodded to herself as she moved her hands into a ball in front of her. "They all look the same, harbor the same brain, or something similar to it, and some even act the same. But the interesting thing about them is that they all couldn't be any more different from each other. I've met the most wonderful clones who look exactly alike, but have such different personalities." Chuchi smiled in relief at Soka's words.
"I completely agree, Senator! They are as much as living beings as we are but some other Senators don't agree purely because they were created in a lab instead of a womb or a shell like others." Chuchi seemed super enthusiastic about the subject and it broke Soka's heart at how most people in the galaxy wouldn't be as inclusive and happy about the Clones getting recognition and rights.
The chat between Chuchi and Soka was cut short when a booming voice filled the room. "Discussions and votes for Vice Admiral Rampart's bill has been delayed to the next session and the discussion for the Rights of Clones has been pushed to the next session as well." A buzzing sound filled the room, "Galactic Senate adjourned."
Senators left their pods as the doors behind them opened, their representative space turning off and leaving a shadow as they disappeared. Soka gave a small wave to Chuchi as she too left her pod, the lights turning off behind her. Two male guards awaited her outside her space.
They looked down at their Senator, a sharp nod in greeting. Soka nodded back, her face turning to stone as some of the other... troublesome senators walked by. She watched them leave with a huff before walking in the opposite direction to find the exit.
"Blaise?" She spoke into the air, the guard on her right leaning forward. "Yes ma'am?" She turned to look at the dark skinned male, "Cancel the meeting with Senator Kobat, I wish to take the rest of the evening for myself."
Blaise whipped a pad out of his pouch and tapped away as they continued to walk forward. "And Okiver?" Okiver, the pink skinned Zeltron male, a person of her own species, looked down at her. "Could you make sure to grab Blaise and go to the diner down at the center? I wish for you and your boyfriend to have the rest of the day off as well."
Okiver's pink skin turned red at Soka's statement. Soka raised an eyebrow at Okiver's embarrassment, "Do you not wish for me to refer to Blaise as your boyfriend?" Okiver scratched his neck as he opened the door to lead them outside of the building. "It's not that... it just takes a while to get used to hearing it." Soka patted her guard on the shoulder.
"Well by the time you get used to using the term "boyfriend", you'll have to get use to the word "husband" instead." Okiver's face turned a brighter shade of red, and if his skin wasn't already pink and bright, Soka might've thought that something was wrong with him.
Soka spotted her transportation already waiting at the edge of the sidewalk and turned to her two guards. Blaise, who had already put the pad away, stared down at her suspiciously. "Ma'am, I know what you are about to suggest, and I suggest against it."
Soka sent him a fake offended look as she stopped walking, making the two stop walking with her. "Whatever could you mean? You make me sound as if I'm the one on the wrong."
Okiver sighed, giving Blaise an exasperated look. "Are you going to ask me to count?" He asked Soka. Soka twirled around to meet his eyes, "Why of course! You know me far too well." Blaise threw his hands up in the air from behind Soka, "Why do I even try?!"
Soka stuck her tongue out at Blaise as she dug her heel into the ground. Blaise rolled his eyes, copying her movement.
"Three,"
Soka drew a sharp breath, mentally preparing herself.
"Two,"
Blaise stiffened beside her, also seemingly preparing himself, despite the relaxed face he held.
"One,"
A beaming smile appeared on Soka's face as Blaise gritted his teeth, waiting for the signal.
"Go!"
Blaise and Soka sprinted forward, leaving Okiver behind them to eat their dust. With a small sigh, Okiver started walking forward, ignoring the onlookers who weren't used to the shenanigans the young senator got up to. Some people who frequented the senate knew how eccentric she could be.
Okiver forced himself to jog behind the two airheads, who were already arguing at the speeder. Okiver expected them to be arguing about who won, but instead it seemed more like Blaise was scolding Soka for something, whilst she responded with a sour face.
"You can't just run into an elderly woman without apologizing!" He exclaimed in frustration, looking as if he was only a minute away from tugging his own hair out, or maybe Soka's, Okiver couldn't tell.
"She was in the way!" Soka replied hotly, a frown gracing her lips. "And for your information I did apologize!"
Blaise scowled, "Oh yeah, like giving a brief sorry and a wave does any good."
Soka tried to stand as tall as tall as she could, as tall as a 1.8m person could against a 1.9m person that is. Soka puffed out her cheeks as she stared angrily at Blaise, crossing her arms.
"I refuse to talk to a salty winner." She stuck her head to the side, looking at Okiver. Okiver raised his hands in the air, showing he was innocent. "I have literally no say in this since I didn't see her knocking into anyone."
Blaise huffed, reaching behind Soka and putting an arm on her neck. "Whatever, stop being stubborn and get in the transport." Soka frowned, peering up at Blaise. "What if I don't want to?"
Blaise reached down and swooped Soka up bridal style, ignoring her shrieks of surprise and practically shoved her into the back seat of the transport. "You have no say, Soapy."
Soka's face burned in embarrassment as she stuck her tongue at Blaise. "Wow, so mature." Blaise responded as he jumped over Okiver's seat to get into the driver's seat.
Okiver sighed in exasperation for the umpteenth time that day, and it was only 1600 hours. He piled into the car after Blaise and slumped in his seat, looking in the review mirror at Soka who had already gotten out her holopad to most likely message Senator Organa.
Okiver kind of pitied Senator Organa for the obsession that Soka had with him. "Soka," Okiver spoke up, "Stop bothering Senator Organa."
Soka raised an eyebrow at him, Blaise doing the same but keeping his eye on the traffic lanes.
"I'm not 'bothering' Bail." Soka said with a small laugh, handing her holopad forward to Okiver. "Apparently a defective clone batch was just reported dead. Clone Force 99, I think they are called."
Okiver had to do a double take at her words. Practically snatching the holopad from her hands, Okiver skimmed the article that Soka was reading.
"Do you know who Clone Force 99 is?" Okiver asked Soka, knowing that Blaise knew who they were due to Okiver's fanboy behavior over the batch.
Soka thought for a second, a pouty frown as she tapped her chin. "Nope." She finally said, popping the p.
Okiver opened his mouth to start his rambling session with excitement but Blaise reached a hand over, placing it on his thigh. "Take a breath first. You don't want to drown her in your words."
Okiver closed his mouth with a click, mulling over what he was going to say in his mind.
"Can I have my holopad back?" Soka asked, breaking him out of his thoughts. Okiver reached behind his head, passing the holopad back to Soka.
"So who's the Clone Force 99?" She asked, placing her pad in her lap with an innocent look gracing her face. Soka knew some details about the C. Force 99, but she knew how excited Okiver got with something he really liked, so she pretended to be oblivious so he could teach her.
"Only the best clone batch out there!" Okiver said, throwing his hands up and almost hitting his boyfriend. With a quick sorry, he turned in his seat to face Soka.
"Clone Force 99, otherwise known as The Bad Batch, is a group of defective clones. Well, they are called defective but it's just cause they have mutations." Okiver started, clasping his hands together.
"The leader, Hunter is his name, can sense magnetic waves and track things really well, and this is only just what I know of. He's the one for creating and calling plans and making sure his batch is safe and unharmed. He's also really hot-" Okiver received a light hit to the back of his head by Blaise. "Not as hot as you of course, babe." Okiver told Blaise with a smile, before turning back to Soka with a knowing glint in his eyes.
"His old second in command, Crosshair, has exceptional eyesight and is the sharpshooter of their team. He and the rest of the Bad Batch had a bit of a scuffle a while ago and instead of betraying the empire like they did, he stayed and decided to hunt them down. Really sad, but he wasn't the hottest so I'm not complaining." Soka rolled her eyes with a smile, knowing how biased Okiver could be with hot men.
"The brains of the operation is Tech, or his full name is Technically but he uses Tech. He is the one who knows all the knowledge and helps create the strategies. I'm pretty sure he's usually the pilot as well.
Wrecker, the big guy, he's the muscles. Usually people would think of him as all brawn no brain, but even if he isn't the brightest lightsaber out of the pack, he still has a lot of strategy and fun about him. He also likes to blow things up." Okiver grinned a sneaky grin, leaning over to Soka.
He cupped his hands to whisper in Soka's ear, "Tech is the cutest one but Wrecker seems like he'd be a mean guy in the sheets." Soka lurched away from Okiver, her eyes wide and face flushed at hearing what Okiver said. With a withering glare at Okiver, not trusting her mouth to say something stupid, Okiver shrugged in response. "Just saying. Wrecker is a total sweetheart though, I heard a clone say he's got this really adorable Tooka doll name Lula or something."
Soka waved her hand, "Is that all of them?"
Okiver shook his head, "They added a person to their group, Echo is his name. He doesn't have mutations like the others but when he was captured and held on Skako Minor, some.. unpleasant things were done to him and he received some metal limbs during his time there. He kinda strikes me as a babysitter who would tut over the group, but I think Hunter does that job."
Soka frowned, "People in this galaxy are so cruel, I can't believe they would do that to him."
Okiver nodded, a solemn look on his face. "And the last person, the main reason I think Crosshair left the team, is a little clone baby named Omega. Well she isn't a baby, but she's a child compared to them. I can't remember why they left with her, but they've been traveling with her ever since. I've heard whispers from Cid's contacts that she has a really good team of people in armor who do her tasks for her, so we've all just assumed it's the Bad Batch."
Soka nodded, inhaling all the new information she received. "Also aren't they rumored to have 100% success rate? How come they are reported dead then?"
Okiver's face dropped at her words, and he turned back around in his seat. "I'm not sure, but the article says they died in the Kamino storm that destroyed the cities, though Kamino was built to survive all those kind of storms. So I don't know why this one knocks them out."
Soka sighed, "That's honestly really sad. I would've loved to meet them." Okiver nodded in agreement.
"I love the sentiment and sadness and whatever, but we are coming up on your residence, Soka, so I recommend you start picking up your dress and don't forget your holopad when you leave." Blaise spoke up, snapping the two Zeltron's out of their sadness trance.
Soka sent him a thumbs up, gathering her holopad and dress into her lap.
The transport pulled in front of the Tanobi Residence shortly after. A huge white building that towered over most of the other buildings and was so huge it went into the clouds, the penthouse that is, of course. The penthouse is where Soka lived, while the rest of the Tanobi residence served as a hotel.
The doorman walked up to the transport, recognizing that it was Soka's.
"Lady Tanobi," He greeted with a small bow. Soka nodded back, slipping out of the door once the doorman opened it for her. She waved goodbye at Blaise and Okiver before following the doorman over to the main door.
Soka's feet tapped impatiently against the tile of the elevator floor as the number ticked up slowly.
75...
89...
97...
99...
100.
The elevator dinged, opening the doors to the entrance hall of Soka's penthouse.
A guard stood at the entrance, turning to the opening doors and pointing his blaster at Soka.
"Password?"
Soka looked the guard in the eyes, standing tall as she spoke, "Sokanara Tanobi."
The guard relaxed with a small smile, shaking his head. "Welcome home, Soka. I really don't see the point in the password sometimes, it's not like anyone else can get up here without the key in the elevator."
Soka waved her hand as the guard followed her to the dining room, "Just extra precautions. We live in desperate times, Joqin."
Joqin laughed as he accepted the cocktail glass that Soka handed over. "Oh lay off it, sis. As a Senator, you are technically more safe than anyone here." Soka raised an eyebrow at her guard, who deemed it funny to call her sis just because they were of the same species.
"And also the one in the most danger if I offend anyone and they decide that I've breathed enough in this lifetime." Soka added, mixing up a cocktail drink and pouring some in her own glass before adding it to Joqin's.
Joqin shrugged, "That too I guess."
Soka knocked back her drink, swallowing almost half of it before placing it down with an aggressive clink, sighing to herself. Joqin took minute sips, drinking slowly as he watched her crumble to frustration. Whenever Soka drank, her emotions become amplified and she mostly gets angry.
"I know for a fact that you were having too much fun with Okiver and Blaise. Why do you seem like someone just pissed in your drink?"
Soka frowned at Joqin's use of words. "It's just so... unfair. I would say."
Joqin raised an eyebrow, gesturing for her to continue as he drank some more.
Soka grumbled to her self as she picked up her cup and tipped more into her mouth, wiping her lips harshly. "Those Senators are just such pieces of bantha shit sometimes. They think their words are approved by the high or something!"
Joqin chuckled, "And?"
"And- and they don't believe Clones deserve rights like the rest of us!" Soka's fists clenched and unclenched around the glass.
She finished the rest of her drink and moved to bite the cup, but Joqin quickly replaced her glass cup with a sugar cup. Soka chewed angrily on the sugar champagne glass, her sharp teeth scraping against the hard surface and giving her skin jitters.
"So you are angry because the Senators believe that Clones shouldn't have rights purely because they were used for the war?"
Soka nodded mutely, her face twisted into a sour look. She nibbled a small dent into her sugar cup before adding more of the drink into her cup.
"Is there anything you are going to do to help the clones?" Joqin asked after a brief moment of silence.
Soka chewed at the edge of the cup, thinking over her response. "Well, I could go to 79's and try to get information on the rights they want? Some proof that they are good helping people to the society and that they deserve the rights?"
Even though he didn't really understand the ways of a Senator, Joqin still smiled warmly, trying to encourage her, "Exactly. Now get your sheb out there and make some noise."
Soka nodded, a newfound determination filling her veins. "Yeah! Yeah I think I will."
Soka gripped her sugar champagne glass tightly within her fingers. "Can you drive me though? I still technically need a guard."
Joqin chuckled, "Don't worry, I've got a spare already decked and ready in the garages."
Soka grinned toothily at him. "I'll buy you a drink there, I know you like the strawberry fizz."
"You know damn well I do." Joqin moved swiftly out to the elevator, twirling the keys on his finger. "Let's get this show on the road."

and chapter one is finished! this is a bit of a doozy as these first handful of chapters are the backstory to soka's life and building up her character, though i will be going fast-ish so we can get to the main plot asap.
as much as i LOVE writing, writing doesnt always love me and makes me write some things that doesnt entirely make sense and are a bit shoddy sounding, so dont be shy to give some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.
yes soka's character is supposed to be silly and child-like and emotional and fast-minded because she was forced to mature quickly in order to get into the senator business as young as possible, so she's going to revert sometimes and be a bit of a comedic relief. if you dont like that, then this isnt the story for you and i recommend you find a new story and not slander soka for being a bit goofy.
have a good day and dont forget to drink water! :D

chapter three!
03. assassination attempt and treason
THE SOUND OF SPEEDERS AND PASSING SHIPS were not enough to lull Soka to sleep that night. Having already sent a comm to Senator Chuchi for them to meet up, Soka's racing mind was preventing her from being able to go to sleep.
What would she say to the Senate? Making them at least believe her would be a tough challenge.
Soka sat in bed, pondering over her datapad, and not noticing the probe droid that arrived and was watching from her window. The eye of the droid blinked a faded red, its gaze leaving a burning feeling running down Soka's back.
After a few minutes of feeling that way, Soka looked up from her datapad, slowly gazing around her room as she tried to find the reason for the lava trailing down her back. Her eyes finally locked with the faded red one, and a sharp gasp made its way out of her mouth.
As if on cue, a blaster shot leapt from the probe droid, smashing against the transparisteel window. The sound rang loud in Soka's ears, her heart picking up pace quickly. As if her mind was delayed on the matter, it took Soka a few seconds before opening her mouth and screaming just as a second blaster bolt fired against the window. The transparisteel window groaned in retaliation, the grating sound meshing with Soka's screams.
The door to her bedroom smashed against the wall from the force it was opened, briefly distracting Soka from the probe droid. Hands found their way to her shoulders and gripped them tightly as a third blaster shot cracked the transparisteel. Joqin's face was pressed close to hers, his face one of worry.
"-oka...! Soka...! Soka!" He roughly shook her shoulders, trying to bring her focus to him. Soka's pupils dilated and her gaze narrowed on Joqin. Her mouth opened, but instead of sound coming from her, the fourth blaster shot was heard instead, making the window crack further. Joqin, realizing how badly shocked Soka was, heaved her up from the bed and began to drag her with him towards her door.
This caused Soka to lurch back, a sob coming from her throat. "My datapad- my data... I need-" Joqin pushed Soka towards the door, causing her to stumble as he raced quickly back into the room and snatched the datapad from her bed.
The fifth and final blaster shot hit the transparisteel window and the shards flew through the air at the impact.
Joqin snatched Soka by the elbow, dragging her out of the room just as a shard flew and hit the doorframe where her head was just placed. Lights turned red above her, a shrill alarm taking over the speakers.
"Alert." A voice spoke calmly as Soka and Joqin sprinted down the hall, the red lights having finally kicked Soka back into her senses. "The perimeter has been breached. Please proceed to the safe rooms in a calm and orderly manner."
A whimper made its way out of Soka's lips and she pushed down the urge to vomit as she skidded across the tile floor with Joqin. They made their way into the kitchen and Joqin flung open the pantry door to push past the cereal boxes and to find a small switch hidden behind them. He flipped the switch and the floor beneath them gave out, dropping them into a steep slide.
As they dropped, Soka managed to catch a glimpse of the floor closing up again and the probe droid hovering over the closing gap. A relieved sigh came from her and darkness covered her vision as they fell deeper into the slide.
Shortly after, the slide spat out the two of them into the entrance of the safe room and Joqin helped Soka up to her feet and headed over to the control panel where he sent out encrypted comms to Okiver and Blaise.
An attempt on a Senator's life was a serious matter and it made Soka regret having taken her security so lightly just a few hours before.
She made her way to the couch in the middle of the room where an artificial fire roared for her comfort. Soka stared blankly into the flames, tightly gripping the datapad that Joqin managed to shove into her hands as they were running to the safe room.
Soka wasn't sure how much time had passed before Joqin made his way over to her, his hair messed up from the run. "Soka." He knelt down in front of her as if she was a child. Soka looked down at him, her knees bouncing from the fading adrenaline. "I know this is your first time being almost assassinated, but I need you to pull yourself together for now." Soka's bottom lip quivered but she placed the datapad beside her and nodded as firmly as she could toward Joqin.
Joqin smiled softly, "That's my girl." He stood up, offering his hand to pull her up as well. She took his hand and followed him over to the console as he started to relay information to her. "We've got a report from Okiver and Blaise saying that everyone in the hotel made it safely to the safe rooms and that no one was harmed in the process." He touched a few buttons on the console and a holographic map of the hotel formed, red dots scattered throughout the building to locate the safe rooms.
"Here," Joqin pointed to one of the safe rooms, "is a where a few imperial guards were reported to have been seen asking for you. The inhabitants of the safe rooms said that the imperial guards wouldn't answer any questions and would only ask about your whereabouts. Okiver and Blaise were en route to intercepting the guards and would then come to us to report what they found out."
Soka's face scrunched at the idea of imperial guards sneaking into her building as she was almost being assassinated. It's such a terrible coincidence. And besides, it was odd how the probe droid didn't put more effort into killing her. Its blaster shots seemed too spaced out, almost as if they were timed.
Soka's heart dropped at this realization. "Joqin, I just realized something." He turned to her as his name fell from her lips. "Yeah? Keep your chin up, I can't hear you."
"I just realized something," She said again, louder this time. Joqin tilted his head at her, a sign that he was listening. "The probe droid, its shots were timed, weren't they?" Joqin's face dropped as she said this, realizing what she was saying sounded true. "And it didn't shoot at us as we made our way to the safe room, it just followed us. As if making sure we were going to be in here-"
Just as Soka was finishing her sentence, the door to the safe room was forced open and the room slowly filled with troopers. Two slumped figures were at the front of the group and Soka immediately identified them as Okiver and Blaise.
"What did you do to them!?" Soka's skin burned to a harsh red in anger and she moved to step forward, only stopping when Joqin grabbed her shoulder in warning.
"They were merely stunned, there was no killing involved. The Galactic Empire is not cruel." A refined voice spoke from within the sea of white armour. The sea split down the middle to reveal Vice Admiral Rampart standing stiffly with his hands folded neatly behind his back. He stepped forward gracefully, leisurely making his way to Soka and Joqin. "Sokanara Tanobi..." He spoke, "The Senator for Zeltros, am I correct?"
Soka bared her teeth at him, not bothering to answer his question.
"Must you act like a beast? We are all humans, are we not?" He sneered at her, "Then again, with your hedonistic culture, you do all act very similarly to beasts in a rut."
"Do not look down on Zeltros." Soka snarled at him, her face flamed and her heart beating loudly in her ears.
Rampart smirked at her anger, gesturing for a trooper behind him to come forward. "Well, Zeltros won't matter to you anymore."
Soka's face dropped and she took a step back in confusion, glancing at Joqin who also looked immensely confused.
"You have no warrant to be here." Joqin spoke up finally, stepping in front of Soka.
Rampart waved his hand at Joqin and a trooper stepped forward and grabbed him forcefully by the arms, tugging him out of Rampart's way.
"I think you'll find that we do." Rampart said calmly as Soka shouted "hey!" in protest to the guard.
Rampart pulled out a small disc and a holographic warrant for Soka's arrest sprung out from it.
Soka watched as an image of herself in her senator attire spun around slowly in a circle with the words "WANTED FOR TREASON AGAINST THE GALACTIC EMPIRE" bolded in aurebesh above her.
Soka's skin faded from the angry red to a dull pink as Rampart began to speak again. "Like I said, Zeltros won't matter to you anymore once you are in imperial jail."
Rampart raised his hand for another trooper to come forward. "Now, I suggest you come quietly before I decide to bring your friends in for harbouring a criminal."
Soka looked solemnly at her stunned guards that remained limp in the arms of the troopers, and then to Joqin who pleaded with her with his eyes to not give in.
Soka hesitated before lowering her head in submission, putting her hands forward for the trooper to cuff her. "May I make a request before I leave?"
Rampart laughed mockingly at her submissive stature, the sound piercing like her shattered window.
"You may." He said to her, his voice holding a haughty tone.
"May I say goodbye to my guard?" She looked up at Rampart, "As this may be the last time I see him."
Rampart waved his hand dismissively, already turning away to leave the room. "Do as you wish. I expect to see you arrive at the ship shortly."
The trooper that was holding Joqin let him go and followed Rampart and the others towards the exit of the safe room. Okiver and Blaise were deposited roughly to the floor and the room emptied of imperials, all except the trooper that was assigned to Soka. He waited by the door in order to ensure that she wouldn't try to escape.
Soka rushed over to Joqin, her skin regaining its natural pink hue. "The datapad," she whispered, "It's still on the couch. Take it and find Senator Chuchi and inform her as to what has transpired."
Joqin nodded at her orders, "But what about you?" Soka shook her head, "I do not know yet. We will proceed with the trial that comes with treason claims. I'm sure you will find a way to break me out if I do get locked into prison."
Joqin sighed in defeat, grabbing her and pulling her into a tight hug. "I'll find a way sis, don't worry." Soka smiled sadly, "I told you not to call me sis." She tried to lighten the mood, but the joke fizzled from the solemn environment.
Joqin and Soka pulled back from the hug, and Joqin ruffled her hair. "You owe me a strawberry fizz after this."
Soka snorted, "Sure. Just get me out as fast as possible. Tell Okiver and Blaise that I'll see them soon."
Joqin nodded and finally let her go, watching as Soka stepped towards the imperial trooper and was led out of the safe room and to the outside of the hotel where a ship awaited to bring her to court.

the writing from this chapter feels like it was written by a five yr old but it's a necessary chapter for the continuation of Soka's backstory, so im just going to go beat the perfectionism demons inside my head and hope for the best
summary: times are rough and a mission gone wrong seems to be the breaking point for hunter and soka. apart from each other, they struggle to regain peace, but together it seems like the galaxy may have gone to sleep just for them. their beating hearts remind them of their humanity and that sometimes, sometimes it’s necessary to cry.
warnings: mentions of ptsd, panic attack, sensory overload
authors note: ✮⋆˙ this lil snippet is apart of a bigger story that focuses on soka (my personal character) and her adventures with the bad batch throughout the three seasons of TBB. the current working title is "A Senator with a Spark", so if you're interested in following soka's story, just make sure to keep an eye out in the fairytale library <3
p.s happy valentines day! (though im two days late to the party lol)
They had finished the mission successfully.
Good.
Great.
...not so great. They had gotten their pay and had eaten some Mantell mix as a reward, but something was still nagging Soka. After the close run in, everything started to seem too much. Everything was so loud, so strong, so deafening to her. She could smell every scent, feel the slightest of tremors, hear everything and even her own breathing was starting to bug her.
She gulped to try and force air down her throat but the sound was so loud to her ears that she had to forcibly restrain her hands from clawing at her throat.
She stood up from her seat in the cantina, the Batch around her barely acknowledging her movements. Tech and Echo were whispering about something over a tablet, Hunter was sat at the barstools and leaning over his datapad, Wrecker and Omega were laughing loudly as they chewed obnoxiously on their Mantell Mix and the sound of the beeping console as they tried to beat each other at d'jarik and everything was just so loud.
Soka passed by Wrecker and Omega, swiping a small amount of Mantell Mix and forced it down her throat, trying to prevent herself from closing the hole with her own hands.
She made her way over to the Marauder and clambered up the opened steps, not bothering to make sure that it closed behind her. Soka slipped into the cockpit and sunk down into the corner closest to the door, breathing in the dark smells of metal and oil. As disgustingly terrible as the smells could be sometimes, she found it to be very soothing at that moment.
She let herself crumble into the wall as she calmed herself, the noises from the engine now seeming to be lulling and the overwhelming darkness at the edge of her mind had calmed into a soft grey.
Everything was finally at peace and Soka mentally scolded herself for making such a big deal about a sensory overload to the point where she had to leave everyone. She usually could get over it in the presence of others without alerting them, so she didn't know why she felt the need to seclude herself in the cockpit.
The soft thrum of the engine, the smell of metal and oil and a bit of dirt from their missions, the faint dust that lingered in the air, the sound of her own breathing and the dark sky outside. Beautiful, slow and quiet... just for her.
Soka stayed in her place on the floor as she stared outside at the planets and stars that littered the sky. She was so immersed by the multitude of colors, she didn't notice the sound of the ramp opening and someone stumbling inside.
The door to the cockpit opened, making Soka tense and snap her head up at the intruder. She slumped once more when she realized it was Hunter, only to find that he seemed to be so shaken by something, he barely noticed her presence.
He stumbled over to the pilot's chair and pushed himself into it, curling on himself and holding his legs with his hands.
Soka's eyes widened as she watched Hunter's breathing become faster and faster and faster and- her eyes snapped to his hands, watching as they shook intensely.
His whole body was shaking actually, and his eyes were flicking back and forth between some of the buttons on the board. Soka frowned as she watched him, before realizing that he was having a panic attack.
ᯓ★
Hunter slouched over his datapad at the bar, his finger tapping against the table in a fast motion. Everything was so loud and it made his head pound in protest.
The edges of his vision were rimmed in shadows, the darkness threatening to swallow him whole. He could hear every heartbeat, every breath, every movement, smell every drink, every food, everything.
The electromagnetic waves from the datapad and holograms and holotables just kept his headache pounding and pounding as if it was trying to escape.
He couldn't handle it. It was too much, but why was it too much? Was it the mission? He could tell it had also bothered the others but why was he so particularly affected by it?
Hunter heard someone rustle behind him, sounding like they grabbed some Mantell Mix and he listened as their footsteps retreated from the cantina.
A dash of teal hair caught his vision and Hunter stared at the door Soka had just left out of.
Too much. Too much. Too loud. Too noisy. Too smelly. Strong. Super strong smells. Why, why was it affecting him so much today?
Hunter's finger picked up the pace on the counter, drilling a dent into the metal as he continued to tap at an annoyingly fast pace. The usually enjoyable environment felt sour today, as if everyone's eyes were watching his every move as he continued to panic from everything.
Hunter abruptly stood up, making his batch mates briefly look over at him at the random movement. Hunter stared back at them, trying to make sure that they couldn't see how much he was panicking. Upon realizing he was okay, everyone turned back to what they were doing.
A shaky breath escaped him and he left the cantina as fast as he could without looking suspicious.
He practically ran to the Marauder, every step he took sounded so loud to his ears, making him feel dizzy and sick at the sound.
A small part of him was relieved that he remembered his way to the Marauder in his state of distress, and once he got close enough, the ramp moved down to open for him.
Hunter raced up the steps and practically burst into the cockpit in his panic. He noticed a shadow jump in the corner of his vision, but ignored it as he stumbled over to the pilot chair.
He sat down roughly in the seat, dragging his legs up to his chest and clutching them like it was his lifeline. He felt silly like this, like a child who was scared of the imaginary rancor under their bed.
Hunter's fingers pinched into his legs, trying to make him feel anything to distract him from everything. His heartbeat thudded in his chest and he leaned his head back and tried to force some air down his throat but it only made him want to vomit.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop!
Hunter's fingers raked across his legs, tugging and itching at the armour. His vision dimmed and he struggled to get a proper breath in. Too much. Too much.
Hunter's eyes flicked back and forth between random buttons that blinked innocently at him. His breathing became faster and faster till he wasn't even breathing, he was trying to rid the air of his system.
A hand landed softly on his shoulder, making him jump in his seat and swat at the hand in self defense.
The hand moved and a shadowy figure kneeled in front of him, a murky voice speaking to him, "...nter. Hunter."
Hunter's eyes focused, the darkness retreating to the edge of his vision again and he recognized that Soka was kneeling in front of him.
Hunter swallowed thickly, his eyes bouncing between her irises, taking in her every feature. "..yeah?"
His voice cracked as he spoke, struggling to get the word out. The air continued to sprint through his throat and his fingers didn't stop twitching and scratching and itching, but his gaze remained on her.
"Hunter, I think you are having a panic attack, most likely started by a sensory overload."
Hunter didn't answer but continued to stare at Soka, his body shaking.
"Hunter, I'm going to need you to try to breathe while I walk you through your panic attack, okay? Just squeeze my hand to respond." Soka put out her hand, letting Hunter's shaky hand grasp it and squeeze it tightly.
"I'm going to need you to do something that might trigger your senses again, but it's going to help with your panic attack." Hunter squeezed Soka's hand again.
"Okay, I'm going to need you to name three things you see." Soka nodded encouragingly at Hunter.
A raspy voice replaced Hunter's usual strong, deep one as he mumbled, "You... the buttons... the chairs."
Soka smiled warmly, squeezing his hand lightly. "Good. Now name three sounds you hear."
Hunter squeezed Soka's hand tightly as his eyes widened slightly, panicking that his senses would go overload again. Soka swiftly moved her available hand to Hunter's chest, right above his heart. "Listen to my heart, and tune it with yours."
Hunter took in a shaky breath, regaining a slight control of his breathing, and tuned into the steady beat of Soka's heart.
"I hear your heart." He muttered, the soft thudding calming him almost immediately. Soka smiled, a breathy chuckle escaping her. "Good."
"I hear your voice and your laughter." He continued before peering up at Soka through his lashes like a bashful child. At times like this, is when Soka remembered that mentally, all the clones were super young compared to their physical features.
"Finally, I'm going to need to you move three parts of your body." Soka said, making Hunter squeeze in response.
Hunter shifted his leg, moved his arm that was holding Soka's hand, and breathed in deeply as he rolled his head.
Soka softly nodded her head, moving to get up but Hunter tugged at her hand lightly.
"It still smells so strong." He whispered, eyes dropping to stare at her nose in embarrassment. Soka leaned back down again, before placing her hand gently over his nose, releasing the calming pheromones that Zeltron's use to soothe others.
Hunter's breath tickled her hand as he breathed in lightly, his tense body relaxing as he leaned into the chair.
After a few moments, Hunter moved his head away from Soka's hand. "Sorry." He muttered, looking down at his hands.
Soka shook her head gently as she tilted Hunter's face to look at her. "There's nothing to be sorry for. You had a sensory overload which formed a panic attack and I suspect you might've regressed in your time of panic. Counting the PTSD and anxiety issues I've noticed from the Batch, you have all the more reasons to need time to collect yourself, or need someone to help calm you down."
Hunter breathed in deeply, and let out the breath. He slowly nodded, squeezing Soka's hand in a thank you manner. "Would you like for me to stay?" She asked, her warm hand continuing to be a comfort.
Hunter nodded after a moment, and shifted in the small cockpit chair to allow Soka to sit with him. Even with his sensory issues, Soka and her warm hands were very calming and Hunter didn't mind her presence.
They sat together in silence as they stared at the stars in the galaxy out of the cockpit window. Soka's eyes were drooping and her head lolled, dropping forward as a breathy sigh came from her. Hunter glanced over at Soka, noticing her slumped position that threatened to pull her from the chair.
Hunter brought his hand to the back of Soka's head and gently guided it to his shoulder, her hair and breath ticking his neck. He placed his own head on hers, listening to her slow heartbeat, and it lulled him into a sleep as well.

05. nightmares and worms
ITS ONLY BEEN A WEEK and Soka feels like she just might lose her mind.
They had transferred her to a new cell a day after her trial, Rampart's orders, and this new location was all sterile white and reeked of insanity.
It didn't actually smell awful or anything, but the wails and banging just down the hall from her cell made sure she couldn't do anything in peace.
It occurs for twenty minutes every hour, and at this rate, Soka feels as if she too might start wailing and banging on the walls.
Today though, was different.
A few hours came and went and the wailing and banging never happened. It was uncharacteristically quiet.
So, Soka stood up from her place on the floor and shuffled over to her laser door, moving her face as close as she dared to be able to peer down the hall.
It seemed like, for some reason, the wailing and banging had been removed.
Soka frowned, trying to figure out what that could mean, before a shiver ran down her spine and her head whipped to the right where a unfamiliar blind woman sat in a cell close-by, her unseeing gaze staring at Soka.
Soka swallowed thickly. This woman and her milky whites couldn't see her, so why did she feel so scrutinized?
"Interesting." the women said, to no one.
Soka frowned, taking an extremely quiet and deliberate step back.
"No, no, no, dear, stay where I can see you." Soka almost gasped, but a strangled garble came out of her throat instead, as the woman's eyes flashed a bloody red before returning back to their hazy hue.
The woman smiled and Soka disturbingly noticed that many of her teeth were missing, and in their place, were vile little wiggling worms. They kind of looked like miniature nightwatcher worms, if Soka had cared to look properly, but instead she was gagging and trying not to vomit at the sight. The worms were chewing at her other teeth, leaving tiny gaping holes and blood to spill out.
Soka dry heaved and leaned against the wall, throwing her gaze towards her cot. "Oh maker," she breathed.
The woman coughed and a few of the worms flew out of her mouth onto the floor, some blood following. The woman giggled and picked one up, taking a crunch out of it before slurping the rest, the worms in her mouth tried to get a bite out of their buddy too, but the woman had swallowed the worm already.
Soka's head started pounding as the bile in her stomach raised up to her throat, but she swallowed it down and moved to lie onto her cot, shutting her eyes once she did so.
"Deary," the woman spoke. Soka didn't respond, but the woman was undeterred. "Sorry you had to see that," she cleared her throat, "Well, I mean, I guess you didn't really see that, because, well, you're blind."
A dull sensation pounded behind Soka's eyes and she tried to open her eyes, and with a start, she realized she couldn't. Her head pounded harder and Soka felt around her cot, trying to sit up. Her breathing started to become laboured and a wail came from her throat.
The woman cackled and as if on cue, Soka's eyes snapped open, the world dizzying around her.
A loud smack came from the woman, she was eating another worm. Soka gagged and didn't look over.
"Well, normally, nightmares would go differently, wouldn't they? you'd be so frightened that you'd wake up and shake through the night in fear." the woman beamed at Soka, and Soka shivered.
"Nightmares?" Soka spoke up for the first time.
The woman rolled her eyes at Soka, a bit of blood leaking out of the tear duct. "Goodness me, you aren't a bright one are you?"
Soka's jaw dropped and her eyes zeroed in on the woman. How infuriating.
The woman smirked at Soka, "Ha, now you look angry. Finally, some emotion other than disgust."
"Disgust isn't an emotion-" Soka started, but the woman cut her off.
"It's a behaviour, I know. Shut up why don't ya?"
Soka's mouth snapped shut against her will and her muffled sounds were the only thing coming from her.
The woman sighed, "How lovely. Silence." A slithering sound came from her. "So, this is a terror induced dream. Or uh, insanity induced nightmare. Maybe it's just a fever dream."
The woman tapped her chin in thought, and Soka noticed that her nails were awfully draconic like.
"It's quite boring, you know? Your imagination is quite bland. I thought I'd be scarier, I'm just ugly." the woman snickered to herself, like she knew an inside joke that Soka didn't.
The woman looked at soka, "Speak child," and soka's mouth unhinged itself.
"Who are you?" tumbled out of her lips.
The woman smiled, "I'm you."
Instantly, like a crack of a whip, Soka's hands become heavy with draconic nails growing, her teeth starting to fall out and worms slowly slithering into place, a wave of terror washing over her and she opened her mouth to scre-
and then banged her head against the wall as she sat up, a scream coming from her lips.
Banging and wailing started up again down the hall from her sound.
Soka rushed sloppily off her cot to the laser door where she looked to the right, seeing that the scary blind woman was no where to be seen in her cell. Instead it was abandoned looking, dried blood on the walls and the faint sheen of a skeleton in the corner.
Soka sighed in relief and walked back to her cot, putting her head in her hands.
Maker, maybe she really has lost her mind. She hopes Joqin hurries with getting her out of here.
