I’m sorry, it’s just… Act 3 really is pretty good.
It just sucks that you have to wade through so much bullshit before this game starts getting genuinely good.
That’s actually one huge pro amongst the long list of cons.
Most games suffer in their third act.
Veilguard somehow managed to stick the landing in its final act.
Even the Witcher 3 suffered in its third act.
So… yeah. At least it’s got that going for it.
In my opinion, anyway.
hello and happy dadwc! i liked apricity from your rare words list, maybe for solas/nessa?

That first day, they did not get far. He was exhausted, and as the adrenaline wore off, fatigue replaced it.
How did bodies get so heavy... he stumbled, could not catch himself in time, and fell to one knee with a hiss. He looked towards her, surprised to find their hands still together. Distracted, he stared at them, at the way his fingers wove through hers, and tears sprang to his eyes.
She was so patient with him. She had always been so patient with him. She let him stare, and after long moments she slowly moved before him, kneeling down. He could not rip his eyes away from their joined hands.
It was her right hand, his left. It had to be. It would forever have to be. The fingers of his right hand twitched, wanting to reach forward, to clutch her arm. He wanted to press his head against her chest and whisper apologies. He wanted to curl into her lap and never move again.
"I am so sorry," he whispered, voice hoarse, ragged, and she squeezed his hand.
"It's okay, Solas," she told him. Her voice was shaky, too. Thick with emotion. "It's okay."
"It isn't," he protested weakly, and she squeezed his hand.
"I won, didn't I?" He frowned at their hands, and finally lifted his gaze to hers. There were new lines in her face, and her eyes held a deep fatigue that had not been there before. Her hair was longer. Her vallaslin was as bold as ever. She was beautiful. She was perfect. "I'm too stubborn to lose, you know that."
He snorted, surprising himself. Surprising her, too, a flicker of a smile teasing at her lips. It felt cold here. But she felt warm.
His own sun.
He leaned in towards her, free arm wrapped around her waist, face pressed into the curve of her neck. He was making a mess of her, he knew. But he didn't need to pull away.
Not anymore.
Solas' Essence: The Poetic Symbolism of the Solavellan Ending
I understand that there is some controversy regarding Lavellan's contribution to Veilguard's “solavellan” ending. In my opinion, her presence and involvement are rich in meaning and symbolism, and I'll try to explain why that is.
While Rook carries the statuette/essence of Mythal and the memories of Fen’Harel’s regret, Lavellan carries an equally vital piece—the insight into Solas’ true self, the spirit of wisdom that he once was, before his identity was distorted by war, pride, and regrets.
The profound and authentic connection they shared during the events of “Dragon Age Inquisition” gave Lavellan a unique first-hand experience of Solas’ true nature, despite the fact that she was unaware of his spirit origins.
Thus, she "carries" the essence of Solas’ true self, the core of his uncorrupted identity, his capacity for wisdom, kindness, compassion, and redemption.
In the good ending, the culmination of the narrative requires these three pillars:
Mythal’s Essence: acquired by Rook after confronting or convincing Mythal.
The Dread Wolf’s Essence: acquired by Rook by collecting the Wolf Statuettes and navigating the Dread Wolf’s memories contained within.
Solas’ Essence: symbolically acquired by Lavellan through her deep connection to Solas.
Alongside Mythal’s essence and Fen’Harel’s regrets, Lavellan completes the triad that makes the good ending possible.
She holds what is arguably the most critical piece since, without it, there can be no redemption.
Through her, the essence of Solas’ uncorrupted identity endures, providing hope for a future path—one that might reconcile the spirit of Wisdom with the man tormented by his choices.
Lavellan’s presence serves as a testament to the enduring power of connection and the possibility of reclaiming what was thought irretrievably lost.
The “Lost Elf” is truly seen and finally found...

Oh, man. There are things about this that break me in all the right ways.

Bonus:
DO NOT give me Journey's End for Solavellan
We all know how Solas's character is based on the 10th Doctor, right? And we all know how the romance between the 10th Doctor and Rose ends, right?
She ends up with his clone while he goes back to his lonely ass time travel life without her.
Sure, she's happy - I guess? I mean, this is a clone of the man she loves. The one she actually loves just walked away so...
And he doesn't get what he wants at all.
Can we all agree that this is a terrible ending?!?!
And all of the takes of:
What if Solas dies, but he comes back as a spirit? Like what he says in his personal quest about his friend, Wisdom! Something of his essence will regenerate but won't have his memories or baggage. So, he can finally be with Lavellan!
This is the SAME sh*t ending! It's a BAD ending! NO!
I want Solas - the Solas we know now, today - to be happy! Not some clone / spirit essence of him!
And I want Lavellan to be with him - not someone that only resembles him and is in essence an entirely different person!
Let Solas - the actual Solas - and Lavellan ride off into the sunset together, goddammit!
