Tonight, we played our final show of the European leg in Paris. The band took some time during the set to run to a smaller stage in the crowd on the pitch to play In My Place, a song from their second studio album, A Rush of Blood to the Head. Over the last 15 years Oxfam have had a real connection to this song. In 2002, the band played this song at our Make Trade Fair show. The first Oxfam showed the band played for us. Above is the video from this concert.
In 2013, the band donated the song to Oxfam in order for us to create a new music video for our land grabs campaign. The campaign called for the protection of communities who were living on land that large agri-businesses were buying up. In the negotiations of buying land, governments and prospective buyers overlooked the communities who were living on the land. Often, when land was sold people were being forcible removed from the land. Losing all their belongings, their livelihoods and their homes. The only institution that could change this was the World Bank - the largest controller of land sales in the world, who would underwrite any land sales globally. They could change this by ensuring all land sales considered and protected anyone living on the land.
We asked Coldplay fans to join us in this fight by filming themselves doing something they enjoyed at home and doing it somewhere totally obscure to illustrate the lose that people faced when they are removed from their land. We also asked famous music video director, Matt Whitecross to help us in this fight by directing the film.
Some 7,000 videos were submitted from Indonesia to Illinois, the product was a beautifully shot music video for In My Place, see for yourself below.
Now here we are, 89 shows into the A Head Full of Dreams tour, 15 years since we started our journey with the band, stood within a crowd of 80,000 people listening to a song that has helped Oxfam achieve so much change.

"We natives do(n)t quit, we stand up." A note written by one of my students today. He is an indigenous second grader who has been through so much. He knows to be resilient and knows to stand in solidarity when people are hurting. My hero.
