Top Rangers have callsigns! In fact, they typically have two. Their "official" callsign... and their "actual" callsign.

Their "official" callsign is used by operators and other rangers on particularly perilous missions to avoid identification should any communication be intercepted. These signs are usually earned through respect or particular displays of badassery, though some exceptions apply.

Their "actual" callsign is a nickname they earn from doing something stupid, or something arbitrary which just happens to set them apart.

For example, Keith's "official" callsign is "Boomerang", because of how he "came back" after being sent flying several miles south of Pueltown during Operation Brighton, and his "actual" callsign is "Damsel", because he got kidnapped during a mission once.

I guess when they first discovered eco as kids, their specific one called to them. and they just started looking into it and going to their sages at the time for guidance and training, eventually take their place as sages.

So for Kano, red called to him bc he wanted strength and power.

For Granny Nymha, blue eco gave her freedom.

And Quill with all of her anxiety, yellow gave her a way to protect herself.
