Summary:

“You literally can’t even take a joke.” Sonic’s voice raised in volume a bit unconsciously. Shadow took a moment to formulate his response, purposely avoiding Sonic’s eyes to stare at the bubbles in the boiling water, “Well,” he commended, “maybe it wasn't a very funny joke, then.”

Romance is neither Sonic or Shadow's strong suit and they decide maybe they're not all mature enough to maintain a relationship. It's better that way anyways. Until something very inconveniently conveniently forces them to confront each other.
