These were actually really interesting to work with, both in trying to keep colors and shapes from the original dresses combined with adding my own lore to it! Except for Aisha’s which wounded my so. I really wanted to keep her flowers but I just,, couldn’t get it to look right🥲 I added purple instead tho which is the color of the flower of andros, which is similar in appearance to a Camas Lily. They bloom in lush expansions all along the coast of the land of Androsia, where the mainland and sands meet.
More info on outfits below!
Musa: Tang dynasty influence. Did my best to keep some of the shapes from the og gown. The 2 red dots that I’ve featured a few times in either side of Musa’s mouth in different designs represent loudness and boldness and are commonly used symbols in a lot of melody, which are traits one would want to represent when holding as representation for the different cultures of Melody, proud of their heritage and great unbending will.
Aisha: mentioned some above about the purple additions to be the substitutes for actual flowers. Kept the split down the middle at the dress itself, just changed its length and shape, trying to keep the shape of the original one some with the purple bits below the corset tho
Tried to keep more true greens than teals too. She deserves more sleek satin fits also. Most of the stuff I draw her in I imagine there’s satin I just decided to do shading this time lol
Tecna: I decided before even designing this I wanted to keep that jacket on them at all costs. Happy with the shapes overall here and really love the colors. Probably my favorite of these looks. Shiny pants and silk featured because they look good on them. To me, they aren’t Tecna if they don’t have some weird heels too.
Flora: probably my least favorite design just because I feel like I need to get better at giving them more variety in their outfits, but I did what I could to keep a lot of the shapes present. Instead of those 2 long flower strands, I just had them replaced with the split full of flowers down the side.
Bloom: empire waistlines are very much the norm in Dominion fashion with not as many ruffles or as expanded a gown shape as featured here, but Bloom is new to this and her parents wanted her to be as comfortable as possible for the celebration. Bloom got to have direct input on the adjustments to the dress and is living the princess dream she’s always wanted currently. She intentionally looks a little awakward as a result, the stylists doing what they could to accommodate what she wanted and mesh it with traditional Dominion fashion styles to reiterate that Domino is what she represents. The slightly more formal front hairpiece with the additional 2 gold curls is present to make the statement that Domino is so back and Bloom is even wearing the golden headpiece that the heir wears to show this. It’s not until after the party she learns it was Daphne’s, and that leads to some Insecurities and the reality of what reviving Domino actually means for Bloom. More spirals coming in waves after this point. As always with Dominion garb the cyan gems are for those of the royal family and purples are for those that work with The Dragon Flame.
Stella: by this point in the story, Stella really starts to get more involved with Lunarian stuff and connect with her moon culture. It starts small in her presentation, with certain cuts of cloth (the slope of the fabric on the top part of the skirt) and the style of some of her jewelry, specifically the one with gems that is tilted to match the fabric shape and the incorporation of more blue gems. She also stops straightening her hair all the time (her hair is blonde from her mother, whom is Lunarian, but the saturation comes from her Solarian genetics, making the color look like it’s from Solarian genetics. Straightening it to match the majority of Solarian hair was a sure way to make sure she passed as Solarian until someone notices her pupils, which are Lunarian. She no longer fears if she’s passing or not. She is learning to take pride in her moon side).
Stella choosing to have the little blue gems on the bottom of her gold gem dress bit instead of gold or more orange is a bold move also she is starting her proper journey to doing joint work and advocating properly for systemic change for Lunaria.
I’ve been rewatching The Secret of The Lost Kingdom because of Reason™️ and every time I try to understand what’s going on and why are things happening the way they are, it feels as though I’m missing so much stuff. Maybe I’m just dumb, but what’s Mandragora’s deal? The wiki says she’s Obsidian keeper, but if that’s the case how do Faragonda and Hagen instantly recognize her when she attacks Alfea?
The whole Obsidian subplot doesn’t make sense considering the whole Company was there when the portal was open and they must’ve known where it led to even before Oritel and Marion were sucked in it, but back to the Ancestral Witches—are they dumb or something? You’re telling me they just had the chance to give their power to Mandragora this whole time and they never took it before today? Not to kill the rest of their enemies, even if just for revenge? Not to go after the Dragon Flame? Not even to help Valtor when he came back?
Why did they wait so long to go after Bloom if the reason they unleashed a war upon Domino in the first place was because they were after the Dragon Flame? They must’ve known Daphne had entrusted it to her little sister—or did they just randomly assume it was gone somewhere?
Okay I saw @sippingteainurhood’s reply and wanted to give it its own post because it brings up a topic most fans look over. I’m not bringing in any personal opinions to this, I’m just stating what happens in the end of SotLK, and trust me, it will ruin your day.
So I know most people believe Bloom earned her full Enchantix after freeing everyone in Obsidian, but we never hear anyone confirm that in the movie (I’m going off the English dub — not the Nick English dub). It’s something viewers just kind of took at face value. Which is understandable because Bloom’s whole journey was about saving her planet and her birth parents, right?
But what I would like to point out is this: Bloom never saved anyone in Obsidian or restored Sparx, so it’s impossible for her to have earned her full Enchantix. And let me tell you the infuriating story as to why that is.
If you break down the battle on Obsidian, Bloom was going to die. Sky was believed to be dead from trying to take Oritel’s sword, and the Ancestral Witches fused themselves into Mandragora to enhance her power and was choking the life out of Bloom. Bloom only broke free of them because Sky wasn’t actually dead. Why did Sky not die? Because of a lovely little prophecy casually thrown into the film: “A king without a crown will save a king of a lost kingdom and what was lost will be again.” And guess who just so happened to be secretly crowned king of Eraklyon earlier in the movie? So Sky sneaks up behind Mandragora, and stabs her in the back with Oritel’s sword. And because of this, Obsidian is destroyed and Sparx is restored.
Bloom didn’t destroy Obsidian. Bloom didn’t save her people. And Bloom didn’t restore Sparx. Sky did.
We spent three seasons of this show that centered around girl power knowing Bloom’s destiny was to save her birth parents and restore Sparx just to have that be ripped away from her and given to her boyfriend.
She should have earned her full Enchantix then. But the plot was literally set up to where that could never happen because we had to have Sky swoop in and save the day and save his “princess” to remind everyone that he’s her “hero” (a theme that pops up quite frequently in this movie).
So yeah. I hope that ruined everyone’s day as much as it ruined mine.
I'm watching SotLK in Bulgarian, translated directly from the original Italian movie, and OH. MY. GOD! It makes all the difference!
The Winx girls' voices aren't great BUT Hagen's voice actor saves his entire character! He doesn't overdramatize with the intonation and the scene where Hagen tells Bloom he can't track down Oritel's sword is handled much better. He is actually very empathetic and sensitve towards Bloom and her pain. Not to mention that he does sound like someone who's been through a lot and has gained a lot of wisdom.
Speaking of which, there is a scene with Hagen and Riven that is cut from the English version... and it makes it much worse because that scene is essential to Riven's entire arc in the story. Riven is being very Riven-like in the beginning, and thinking more about being a warrior than about Musa and their friends and while Hagen tries to give him advice, Musa interrupts them before he can. So Riven ends up having to figure the same wisdom out on his own aka what's worth fighting for. And he does when Musa is ready to give her life to protect both him and Sky. Him learning what he should be fighting for is what helps him free himself from the darkness. You could figure all of that out even without the scene with Hagen but it gives a lot more context (and to Hagen too). I genuinely don't understand why they cut it.
The Book of Fate plot is also better because Daphne mentions that now the ice on Domino has started melting and that's how she learned that the Roc wasn't destroyed. That part is cut from the English version for some reason and makes that plot point seem random.
There's also a little scene cut right before they find the Book of Fate. Tecna mentions that the library is protected by a powerful spell and that's why it's still undisturbed despite all the turbulence with the Roc. Brandon wants the spell for himself so it can keep his room in order and Helia teases him about it. Then Stella uses some magic to fix the boys' hair after the wind from hanging from the Roc disheveled them. It's not important per se but it's really cute and gives everyone besides Bloom and Sky some more screen time.
Idk why the voice that is supposed to be Lysslis is... male? Like, what happened there?
Wait, Faragonda just said that the Ancestral Witches were created in Obsidian, which I don't remember from the English version.
The scene where they walk towards the Obsidian gate is also different. And better. Also, idk how you say that in English but you know that part at weddings when the person that officiates asks if there are any objections? Bloom just did the same but about other ideas about entering Obsidian. I think Winx and the Specialists all got married to each other and dangerous, inadvisable adventures.
Well, the part of the last scene with Marion and Oritel is much more heartbreaking, in fact. And it isn't so annoyingly sweet and perfect.
Of course, a lot of the plot holes are still here but the movie is way more watchable this way.
You might have already answered this but how are you planning on dealing with Marion and Oritel’s relationship with Bloom and Mike and Vanessa? I always hated how they glossed over it and made it seem like their was no strain in their relationship as if Marion and Oritel hadn’t missed out on Bloom’s entire life and are her parents in pretty much name alone.
The events of the SotLK will almost certainly be another 50 chapter fic on its own, so the fallout from it will be about half of that.
When they are revived neither Marion nor Oritel realise how long it has been. They also have no idea what’s happened to Daphne. So upon being rescued they have a lot to deal with.
Vanessa and Mike will be there for Bloom through all of this, because they are good parents and kind people. It’s not uncommon for adopted children to get in contact with their bio parents later on in life, so Mike and Vanessa had always been expecting something like this (although not exactly).
Domino has to be rebuilt slowly, and so does Bloom’s relationship with her bio parents. They need time to grieve and time to plan. Marion and Oritel do feel like they have to spend as much time with Bloom as possible (to make up with what they missed) but Mike and Vanessa are there to help both sides and stop anyone getting overwhelmed.
Bloom’s two sets of parents are committed to working together and do eventually become close; with Oritel giving them a house on Domino for whenever they want to stay there.
Could you maybe redesign the winx "spaceoutfits" from winx club: secret of the lost kingdom?
yes! these are Red Fountain brand All Terrain Adventure Gear Suits(the boys wear these too), color changed magically by Stella because Stella. also wtf was up with those boob armor pasties in the original
