oh my gosh i just finished the dcbb illustrations for @spearywritesstuff, and i pulled up the ones i already did for @delicious-irony to compare, and WOW, they could NOT BE more different. they both have my art style, and they’re all full-colour and full of visual depth and shading and whatnot

but the art for Speary feels like..... a goth preparing to stab a possessed red apple with an angel blade (v. moody), and the art for Deli feels like summer sunshine slowly melting cotton candy on the beach (s o f t).

they are both cOMPLETELY my aesthetic, combined. because my favourite visual aesthetic is rainbows + black. and one is rainbows. and one is black. and i love them both so much ;u; i really love how they all came out~

and i am SO EXCITED for everyone who reads dcbb fics to see these, and read the fics when they post!!! (minor spoilers below, but nothing that isn’t contained in the summaries.)

@delicious-irony‘s fic is called The Magic of Things Big and Small. it’s an AU about a magic island with Dean as a mystical priest and Cas as a tourism organiser. it posts on October 17th (US).

@spearywritesstuff‘s fic is called Night at the Impala Theater. it’s an AU about Rowena the witch, and Dean entering a 1940s movie and meeting his favourite character, Cas. it posts on November 8th (US).

and, for the record, my own DCBB is called Duck Duck Boots, which is an AU about vet!Cas contacting the village witch (Rowena) and meeting his soulmate, biker!Dean, and they then proceed to heal each other from various traumas while raising baby ducks together. it’s being illustrated by @deancebra-art and posts November 28th.

there are promo graphics for all three fics on the @deancasbigbang​ tumblr (http://deancasbigbang.tumblr.com/search/almaasi) but i didn’t get around to reblogging them yet. (all graphics made by me, although Speary gave me a good base to work with~)

I was just wondering if you all would ever consider having an official collection list on Ao3 for all of your officially recommended fics. I'd basically just live in that collection, reading for years. Thanks for all the fic recs.

Thank you so much for your kind words!! Yes, we have noticed that AO3 collections are getting more popular and are almost like a badge of honor on a fic. However, a DestielFanFic AO3 collection at this point would be incomplete and would severely misrepresent our blog. 

During past five years the criteria to review a fic has changed several times. DFF went from the blog that rates and rec any fic a mod has read to a blog that seeks out new authors and rec fics relevant to fandom trends. On top of that, official reviews are written by four mods and several followers + guest reviewers. There’s no continuity / connecting thread between these reviews except that they are all posted on this blog. All reviews are tagged with reviewer’s url to help readers to chose the fic.

Here are a few other reasons there isn’t a DFF AO3 Collection

DFF is more than a list of fics. While reviews are our most recognizable feature, we also post a lot of asks and thematic rec lists. We review fics, tag them and tell you why we liked them. We use reviews to tell more about the fic if the summary is unclear. We warn about difficult themes and squicks. Our blog is here to help readers to find a fic that fits their needs. That’s why we always encourage followers to visit our blog and explore all features. A collection would do none of this. 

We have a lot of fic recs that are only hosted on LiveJournal, DreamWidth and FanFiction Net. We also keep reviews when a fic is deleted by the author. Without seeing all titles, fans may construct a false understanding of what kind a fic rec blog we are. 

We have Masterlist in four parts with the title, author, rating, length and primary tags. Check them out! With ≈700 reviews, you are welcome to live there! [Part One A-C], [Part Two D-K], [Part Three L-R] [Part Four S-Z]

Last but not least. AO3 collections are not without their fault (see this post) and a lot of authors may decline our request to add the fic to the collection. That would only further the incomplete status of such a collection. Not to mention the time we would have to spend on managing an AO3 collection and keeping track of deleted works in addition to doing regular maintenance on the blog itself! 

Our sidebar says, “A blog dedicated to collecting, reviewing, and organizing destiel fanfiction” and that is what we are doing here. We hope to preserve a slice of destiel fic fandom history on this blog.

My DCBB is sfb. No Cas/other, no Dean/other unless you count AU Cas as an other, but he’s pretty much just Cas but sadder.

Dean/other doesn’t bother me! What’s your DCBB called, or could I get a link?

Yes, it’s like a slow walk through all that the book was. The series doesn’t even get a quarter of the way through the book in its first season. The casting is also spot on, and Bryan Fuller is clearly in love with the source material.

I didn't know that it was maple flavored candy. I totally thought that it was cheddar shaped like maple leaves. I still want to eat it. Literally every time I go on your blog, I drool over the not cheddar cheese leaves.

Oh wow.  No, it’s maple candy made from crystallized maple syrup.  It’s pure maple sugar, which is essentially syrup that’s been boiled until all the liquid is boiled away, which is why my anon was lamenting the cost.  There’s always some for sale at our local maple syrup festival, the Sweetwater Harvest, and I can never resist buying it, if only that once each year.

I totally have this error in all of my old fics... Rein vs. Reign It is so prevalent in my first fics that I can't even go back and look at them.
