I’m autistic, and like many, I have a special comfort item! But he is getting on in years, so today he is getting emergency surgery! And I’m going to document his little journey here.
This is my poor little elephant. He has no torso.
Very skinny boy.
I’ve got the fluff removed, as you can see it’s very old and clumped up.
He is currently a pancake, in the wash. It’s very distressing to me to do this, because I don’t like him having to change and it makes me so sad to cut him open!! But it’s for his own good. With good maintenance he will be safe and healthy for years to come.
TL;DR Version #3: The (Many) Problem(s) with Ares + Update
So, while watching “Dreamworker” for my upcoming Five Funny Little Moments post, I stumbled across something that got me really excited. The last piece of the puzzle slid into place, and I now think I can answer my first five questions about Ares. But first! Let’s recap all seven, in statement form. Would anyone be interested in the in-show answers I’ve come up with? If so, then please let me know! Also, should I wait until I can answer the last two? I think I know them already, but they’re a bit more iffy. Hmm… While we think on that, onto the TL;DRs! :D
---
1. Xena had never seen Ares before “The Reckoning” despite being in a mentorship and carnal relationship with him for ten years.
2. Ares trained and guided Xena for that whole decade, and yet, we never see hide or hair, nor hear mention, of him in any of the dozen episodes showing direct flashbacks into Xena’s past.
3. When Ares lost his godhood in “Ten Little Warlords,” peaceful people became extremely pugnacious very quickly. But then, everyone was perfectly fine the entire year and a half plus between “Motherhood” and “You Are There” that Ares wasn’t the god of war.
4. Losing his sword somehow cost Ares his divinity even though that didn’t happen to any of his fellow gods when their special objects got stolen (e.g. Hephaestus’s metal; Hades’s helmet; Apollo’s urn).
5. In “God Fearing Child,” Ares says that his powers don’t work in the underworld despite having performed the Callisto-Xena body swap there in “Intimate Stranger.”
6. His return favor from Gabrielle at the end of season three is complete nonsense. Please see my post about that for details.
7. His future makes absolutely no sense either. Somehow, he ended up entombed with things he couldn’t have, lying dormant for thousands of years but also knowing current events, and unable to escape that tomb despite Janice blowing it to smithereens. Or Ares did get out but then waited around sixty years to find and test Xena and come up with Y2K. And after all that time and effort, merely being struck once in the face by Joxer was enough to get him to flee for the next few years. During which, he did not bother checking into the Xena clone or trying to get Alti to help him out despite her own impossible escape. Nor did he ever mention or look into finding his contract with Xena during any of these events or the last two seasons of the show.
More details into each of these points can be found in the full version of this post.
Warping Well (Special Objects Idea)
Here's one for you Dm's that want a warp object, so your players can get around the world quickly.
Locations: The warping wells can be found in garden esc areas. They can be differentiated from regular well due to them having a slight purplish glow coming from the depths of the well.
Effects: If a person jumps into one of these wells & swims into the depths of it, you will end up in a room full of a bunch of different wells, all of which show a map of where they will end up if they enter those wells.
Backstory: This system of well that warp people about were made by a secret group of bureaucrats who just wanted to get their jobs done quicker & more efficiently. The government eventually found out about it & toyed around with using it for military purposes, but decided against it due to it having a great backfire potential & as such just kind of kept it a secret till the people who knew about it died & the only people who do know about are just people who accidently find out.
Trapdoor Returnium (Special Object Idea)
Here's one for you dm's that want the players to be able to go back to base every so often.
Out in the world their will be these be these random trapdoors strewn about. These trapdoors are actually an after effect from a very powerful teleportation spell going wrong. People can use these trap doors to return home, but a curtain set of circumstances would have to met
First: Someone needs to install a trapdoor that is magically linked to the trapdoors from this spell. Their are specialist who can do this, but at a high price.
Second: A person needs to add some sort of signal/key/or magical items which can only open the trap door at their desired place
Third: Said Person must use the trapdoor opening item own any random trap doors that they find around & enter.
If when they enter they end up at there desired, then they did it correctly, if they end up somewhere else, then they screwed up a step at some point & should go back in the trapdoor to go to where they were.
If It does succeed then they can now use any trap door to return home, if they use the trapdoor opening item before hand.
