happy Final Week of Mermay!!!! here’s Sirena, a Spellsinger Mer based on the Anhinga!
These mers are the closest living relative to sirens, the common ancestor to all modern mers. Extremely elusive and little-known, their population is thought to be small and heavily localized to one or a few pods in the adriatic sea (although research suggests their range was originally much larger, and some pods are thought to have migrated and hybridized into other mer types). They retain basal characteristics such as clawed ray tips, scute-like scales, hot pink coloration, feather down-like hair, and remnant feather filaments in some sections of the body, such as along the top half of the tail or along the outer ridge of their large batwing-like hip fins. As their name implies, their power lies in the ability to weave spells from anything they sing. Although they lack any weather control powers, they are sorted here because of their strong connection to natural magic and the element of earth, as their ancientness precludes many modern characteristics of the four main groups of mers. While their tails are largely reminiscent of ancestral sirens, some have come to resemble the markings of marine birds. Regardless of appearance, their voices never lose that haunting, songbird quality.

A theory about Luca
So, I have a theory that Luca may have spell-singer capabilities. SPOILER FOR JOEL IF YOU HAVE NOT READ HIS ROUTE!!
But, in Luca’s route he interprets the aria in Schuyler’s class. In Joel’s route he mentions, some spellsinger’s become involved in other creative activities in place of pursing spell singing.
Luca can draw, really good. It may have been a design by Schuyler to hand him a sketch pad and pencil to channel his power that way.
*I Can’t remember which chapter Joel says this in his route, and I am too lazy to find out right now. But, this theory has been going through my head.
Thoughts?
What if the songs the spellsingers sing are all just covers of "Standing on the Sun"?
