Across the Spider Verse
I was not prepared for this absolute masterpiece. This movie is amazing. No awesome, incredibly thrilling and thoughtful til the end. This is absolut cinema and animation at its finest. The animation is vibrant, diverse and beautiful. I can’t imagine how much work, energy and passion went into this project. All credits and hearts go to the animators the true heroes of this movie. My god I can’t even imagine the amount of work that was put into this to make it as the masterpiece we now know. I could spend hours with analyzing every frame of this. They play so much with visuals and colors it’s true art made into a movie.
I love how this movie starts. It’s everything from Gwen’s perspective. We see everything she was going through and the struggles she faced when her father found out shes Ghost spider. It’s nice to see everything from her perspective. Her world is vibrant and colorful but also overshadowed by the death of her one and only best friend. Peter Parker. Since then she never had a friend until she met Miles, but there’s more to them as you might think. The montage were we see them thinking about each other indicates that they had catch feeding for each other or that they got stronger since Miles was basically falling for Gwen since the first movie. Also if these two are not endgame at the end of the third movie I don’t know if I could ever recover from it. Miles and Gwen are just perfect for each other. They compliment each other in every way.
Miles in this movie has also much to go through. He’s the most goofiest spider man and sometimes fails at his missions but never gives up. It’s difficult for him to be a normal teenager and spider man at the same time. Everyone in the spider verse tells him what he should and shouldn’t do, but in the end he does his own thing.
And the main antagonist Miguel O‘Hara is incredible. More villains should be written like him. He’s cunning, ruthless and strategic. He believes his view of the world is right because of what he was going through. Then we have the Spot. At first a pretty hilarious and dumb villain but he became a real super villain after he discovered what he could do. He’s a danger not only for himself but also for society.
I love the different spider people we met at the spider verse headquarters especially Hobie Brown (Punk Spider) and Pav Prabhakar aka the Indian spider man in which world we fall first when Miles follows Gwen. They are so cool and funny. My personal highlight is the chase scene. There we got spider cat and Rex, which just had cracking me up. I wonder what happened to their uncle Ben’s? Unbelievable it took four years to make it. It’s so incredibly fast and well paced but is also hilarious. I love how this movie has a perfect balance between comedy and emotional moments. But I feel the second one is more emotional than the first one.
And the ending. My god this ending. Ultimate goosebumps. I can’t wait for Beyond the spider verse.
I don’t know much about Spider-Rex but he probably had a bad time the first time he got to the spiderman HQ. Imagine learning that in most worlds your people were driven extinct, imagine learning that you’re considered a whacky gimmick. It’s like if you were a normal human and getting to the spider verse and finding out that in most worlds humanity generally gets wiped out and replaced by like, mice, and all the other versions of yourself are some variation of mouse and they lowkey think of you as a primitive animal
