BEST TRACKS OF 2017-ARTISTS LIST #25
FLOOR CRY
Winnipeg based singer songwriter Felicia Sekundiak under the avatar of Floor Cry crafts stunning slices of gem like synth pop with self-reflective poetic lyrics. She floored us Wash that was released earlier this year and then with a duet with internet artist Mellow Fellow with New Year’s Eve. New music is forthcoming in 2018! Here is her favourite tracks of 2017--Enjoy... 01. “Social Jetlag” by Beach Fossils When this tune came out I couldn’t stop listening to it. It’s super chill, something about it puts my worries on pause. I’ve always loved this band. 02. “Let It Pass” by Jakob Ogawa I love this one!! Everything about it is perfect. This is one of those songs that inspires me and makes me want to be a better musician.
03. “All Your Love” by Jakob Ogawa I couldn’t choose between this one and “Let It Pass” so I’m including them both. I’ve listened to it so often since I discovered it and I never get sick of it.
04. “2 Hold U” by Clairo This song is so lovely. It gives me this nostalgic feeling that I can’t quite put my finger on. Clairo is incredibly talented and she consistently puts out amazing music. I’ve been listening to so many of her songs lately and this is one of my favourites!
05. “Dark Red” by Steve Lacy Oh my gosh. If you haven’t listened to this song you’re missing out!!! Your life will be changed!!! The whole EP is amazing and I can’t wait to see what Steve Lacy comes out with in the future. Another thing I love about this is that it was made using Garageband which just goes to show that you can make wonderful stuff without using any fancy programs. It also makes me feel a lot better about my own procrastination with trying to learn how to use Ableton. 06. “Dancing” by Mellow Fellow Wow. This tune makes me feel like I’m at a 80s prom or something!! On top of that Polo is one of my good friends and an amazing person which makes his music that much better. Knowing the artist behind some of your favourite sounds is genuinely a good person just adds that extra level of enjoyableness. It’s funny because we’ll be talking on the phone or something and I almost forget that I’m also a huge fan until I’m in my car the next day belting out his lyrics.
07. “911/ Mr. Lonely” by Tyler, The Creator I think I dance around my room to this song 3-4 times a week. Scum Fuck Flower Boy is such a great album, it really transcends genres. I think that this song is one of my favourites because it’s so catchy and it brings me back to a good place and time in my life so I associate it with those positive feelings. It’s also all around just an amazing song. Someone made a Youtube video of Frank Ocean singing “Chirp Chirp” for 1 hour and I’d be lying if I said I’m not planning on watching the entire thing, and more than once too.
08. “Eleven Weeks” by Vansire The first time I heard this song I felt like I was dreaming. I actually left my body for a bit but I didn’t do anything cool with that opportunity. Instead I just kept listening to the song because it’s that good. 09. “Like A Wheel” by Spissy I listen to this song a lot when I’m feeling blue. Something about it is comforting. It’s super smooth and the guitar in it is real nice.
10. “Ghost” by Parekh & Singh My boyfriend showed me this song so it reminds me of him and I think that’s why it’s one of my favourites. I also relate to it a lot and it’s just so nice on the ears!!
