Deborah Bond - compass: I - r&b from Washington, DC (Splash Blue)
Splash Blue proudly presents ‘’compass: I’’ - the monumental new album from Debórah Bond. Created from a personal moment of journeying, set in motion by life changing endings and new beginnings, “compass” explores self awareness, new love/intimacy, & circumstances of the world in which we find ourselves. Written during the Global Pandemic, “compass” tapped into a creative vein and was written and recorded in seven months. Debórah explains; ‘’Focusing on displaying the raw, gritty, more edgy parts of my life, I decided to create/record the project in my home and allow my “inner compass” to lead me to a new tribe of musicians/collaborators. I teamed up with a few new producers from the Richmond, VA area and reconnected with some long time producers from Baltimore, MD who all recorded from their own home studios. New collaborators include executive producer and bassist Brandon Lane, DJ Harrison (Butcher Brown), and saxophonist/producer Trey Sorrells. Key appearances include, Grammy Nominated drummer Nate Smith, Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Gordon Chambers, and world class jazz drummer Corey Fonville. Every aspect of “compass” is presented from a place of deep thought. Lower case wording, hand sketched artwork, the absence of color, and more all lend to themes of rawness, humility, and darkness. Taking a leap into new territory without my long time bandmates/producers while the world is locked down was a frightening endeavor that resulted into a beautiful, honest body of work. “compass” not only represents a moment of being lost, but the beauty in knowing the journey can be healing. Each volume will reflect a new exploration. Life changes but the music will always live on. It’s been a long time coming but thanks to following my heart and the music I continue to find my way.’’
