Since I commissioned my Warden and my Inquisitor, I figured I had to ask @splinterstaff to complete the set of my three canon protagonists. So here’s the finished piece of the Champion of Kirkwall, Allegria Hawke.
Varric,
I almost pissed myself laughing when I read your letter. Ask Fenris the next time you see him if you don’t believe me. All your griping and bitching about the Chantry shoving it’s nose where it has no business, and you go and sign yourself on for a holy war with the ‘Herald of Andraste’ like a bloody altar boy.
Sebastian would be so proud – if he wasn’t more preoccupied starting his own war, I mean.
I can’t say I’m delighted to hear that Corypheus isn’t as dead as we thought he was, especially with wardens disappearing like hors d’oeuvres at an Orlesian wedding. Carver’s last letter said he was traveling west with the Hero of Ferelden on some sort of handwavy warden business, but that was months ago. I’ve had no word from him since, and neither had Alistair when I last wrote to him.
Little shit had better be safe somewhere far away from this mess, or Maker’s hairy balls I swear I’ll kick his warden ass all the way to Weisshaupt and back again.
I don’t know what you’ve promised this ‘Inquisitor’ of yours exactly. As far as I’m concerned, Corypheus should be dead in the ditch where we left him. I don’t have any better an explanation than you for how a delusional magister-darkspawn survived repeated stabbings and immolations. Blood magic? Darkspawn-taint powers? Enchanted fairy dust?
You’d better give me a writing credit if you put any of those ideas in your book. I know you’re writing a book about all this weird shit, Varric. You can’t help yourself. You’ll probably call it something like, “All This Shit Is Weird: The Inquisitor Lavellan Story.”
I want credit for that title, too.
If you think I can help, and if this Inquisitor’s what you seem to think he is, I’ll come to Skyhold. If the poor bastard thinks he can save the world, he’s going to need all the help he can get.
– From a letter found tucked between the pages of the latest chapter of ‘Hard in Hightown’
I’ve had the great pleasure of working with @splinterstaff on this commission of Inquisitor Thalon Lavellan. If you get the opportunity to commission them, please do. They’re wonderful to work with and incredibly accommodating, not to mention incredibly talented!
Nindarhmen Lavellan belongs, as always, to @sunshinemage.
Amelan,
You know me too well. It’s true that I’ve tried with little success to put my worry for the clan out of mind, but your last letter went a great way toward putting my anxiety to some sense of ease, particularly as regards Ghilethari and her training. It’s no small relief for me to know she does well, despite her fears for Nindarhmen and I.
I know my sister does not cope easily with change, but perhaps this time apart from me will do her good. I admit I have been protective of her, maybe more than I should have been. She isn’t a child anymore.
I’ve spent many hours reflecting on your words to me, before we parted. I was too unprepared and too overwhelmed to respond as I should have to your apology. I confess, I did not expect to ever hear one.
I forgave you a long time ago, amelan. I know you did not refuse to bond Halahn and I to keep us from happiness, but to serve our People and both our families’ futures. If the fault was anyone’s, it was mine. You taught me all my life to trust in my own path. I was the one who betrayed Halahn and myself, when I did not fight for what was in my heart.
If there’s a path before me now, it feels as if I’m walking it blindly, stumbling from stone to stone. I thought I was ready to lead, but now that I am called to it, it is so much harder than I could have imagined. I know now for myself that no decision made on behalf of another is an easy one to make – just as your decision, years ago, must not have been easy for you.
I don’t know how I would find the strength to do this without the wisdom and courage you taught me. Serannasan ma, amelan, ma melava halani.
You will have heard, from Nindarhmen’s letters, of Redcliffe and Therinfal. Now that our alliances are secure, we are prepared to field another attempt to close the Breach, for good. I suppose, when that is done, the Inquisition will ask me to stay a few months longer, to help restore order and seal what rifts remain, and find the culprit responsible for what happened at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. Tuelanen nuvenin, Nindarhmen and I will be home before winter’s end.
This war is almost over – for us, at least.
– From a drafted letter found among Thalon Lavellan’s personal belongings, addressed to Keeper Deshanna Istimaethoriel
my long long long long long overdue half of an art trade with @splinterstaff!!! ty for being so patient ilu and your elf son <3
Samuel Hawke, offering a certain someone that sandwich (and then some) he technically did not refuse, sketch commission for @splinterstaff!
leonid trevelyan is perfect in every way
and he would like everyone to know that.
SO, ages ago, i entered a giveaway that @becausedragonage and @northstarfan ran (this is a good time to re-plug their fantastic fic, hard way home, which is one of my faves, okay? okay! i’m due for a reread!) for a piece of art by the singularly lovely @splinterstaff. @splinterstaff literally took the leonid i see when i close my eyes and made him into reality, okay, but also was so patient and attentive and kind with me while i dithered about which bow leonid should be holding. seriously -- a magical experience of having someone make art of a beloved character. anyway, i have been holding onto this work in my heart since first @splinterstaff sent it to me, and it gives me all of the warm and fuzzy feelings. i have run out of words for perfect, but suffice it to say that y’all should commission @splinterstaff. seriously. best. experience.
i mean, seriously. look at him.
actual perfection (and you know he’d agree)
anyway, now is also a good time to mention that, like, if you are curious about this very handsome man and can handle his general wretchedness (he’s getting better!), he has a page here, and also an au page here, a tag over here, a nsfw in character sideblog over here, and also a WHOLE LOT OF WORDS ABOUT HIM over here on AO3 (88 000 words, in fact, featuring his precious headbutting boyfriend not boyfriend). with more to come, promise.
Happy Birthday! ^o^
Thank you! ^^
SO my part of art trade with @splinterstaff. Its Sam Hawke! I hope I got everything right and that you like it!
