sam’s dues including 1) being murdered by someone who shot him with a shotgun, 2) being force fed demon blood, which he had been addicted to, and 3) sacrificing himself to (potentially) an eternity of torture by the devil because everyone made him think he deserved it for being manipulated by heaven and hell, which dean also admitted fault for but then later revoked

and then sam did come out on the other side, but without his soul, and dean beat him unconscious over it after sam confessed that he thought something was wrong with him. and then dean rushed a flimsy plan to put sam’s soul back in him against his will while it was still mutilated. and sam called dean out on how wrong it was to mess with ben and lisa’s memories because he knew how it felt, then dean threatened to break sam’s nose if he brought them up again

and then sam suffered a psychotic break from remembering all of the torture anyway which then led to him hallucinating the devil torturing him even more. which dean and bobby considered an annoying inconvenience making sam feel like he had to keep it to himself as to not be more of a burden that he already felt he was. and then dean got mad at him for doing so anyway. and then dean threatened to do a murder-suicide to sam and himself because he couldn’t handle sam being “crazy”. and then dean weaponized sam’s mental state against him to make sam do the heavy lifting of convincing himself that he should trust dean’s judgement over his own, even while sam was obviously in a clear headspace. and then sam got hit by a car because he hadn’t slept for 5 days straight. and then he almost died in a psychiatric hospital

and then he still thought that he could never fully make up for something he unknowingly did while thinking he was actually doing the right thing. the right thing being trying to make something good out of his "curse", something he also had no control over
