i like to think cas shows up so fast because he’s always nearby, keeping an eye on sam and dean. he heard “watch out for your friends” and decided that meant “watch them constantly.” he’s trying his best 😭💙

when you started watching supernatural in your teens and then years later you hit 22 and realise that this is how old Sam was in the pilot and so then.. and then you start 4 years of agonising countdown and comparison of your existence until - oh my god - until suddenly you’re 26, dude, and so the true reliving of the tragedy begins

I know we (myself included) talk about how Dean only gave Cas the mixtape because he figured Cas wouldn't know the implications, and we further expand on that as a place where Cas didn't see Dean's half assed love confessions, so how could he possibly reciprocate

But if I think about it. Like. Really. Think about it. Cas had an entire info dump of pop culture. That wasn't just movies, or even if it was just movies that would include mixtape gifts which were HEAVILY featured in movies.

Maybe it's just canon's refusal of continuity, or maybe. Just maybe.

Cas receives a mixtape. There are songs on it. Dean's handwriting. And Cas knows, peripheral knowledge, the time it takes to do such a thing. Even more since tapes aren't exactly easy to find. Did he record over a tape he already had? Did he buy one, watch it travel from some far off country to a little P.O box?

What does it matter? Not when Dean could never mean it like that. Not when Cas is certain this is just Dean's way of trying to

Well it's even worse. Because Cas tries returning it at first, doesn't he? Oh this is Dean's Mixtape, he says. This belongs to Dean and it is therefore Precious and must be Protected this is Dean's Thing

And then Dean says, "it's a gift," and he says "you keep those." And this isn't Dean's Mixtape it is your Mixtape. Your Mixtape from Dean and of Dean.
