The emotive photograph says it all. They lost, England got beat, the hurt continues. 🎵 🎵 “52 years of hurt and England’s still dreaming...” still crying... still waiting. Sorry, on Sunday 15th July 2018, it won’t be the England team in the final. They went out to Croatia at the semi-final phase. They played well, they fought hard, they tried their best, they came so close but stumbled. Nope, after half a century of football disappointments and misery and shames it won’t be them that lift the cherished prize in the World Cup final - once again.
Croatia will be playing France in Russia, Moscow, at the Luzhniki stadium, which seats 81,000: kick-off 4pm local time. The jubilant Croatian players, the history-makers, beat the boys from England in extra time, triumphing 2-1. And now they’ve just one more hurdle, one more obstacle, one more goal: beat France! Do that and the famous, gold, coveted, glittering, Jules Rimet trophy is coming home, is coming home, is coming home - to Zagreb. 🎵🎵 “Football’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming home…” If not to Zagreb then to Paris.
How heavy is the World Cup trophy? According to FIFA, it weighs 13.6 pounds. Is it gold? It’s made of solid 18 carat gold with two layers of malachite at the base.
