In terms of Scottish marriage - have you seen Scottish vows? They're lovely

tarot journal 1: solstice
my tarot practice has suffered a little in this last semester, so i’m holding myself to reflecting as intentionally as i did when i first started reading the tarot. i used my smith-waite centennial deck. i think this bit of writing is a fair introduction to who i am and how i work with the tarot, so i hope it can offer something to y’all.
this is coming a few days later, from @spooniewitches‘ spread.
1. darkness: page of wands
this has been a year of overcommitment for me. i have a chronic inability to say ‘no.’ i’m becoming more and more aware of this with my spiritual work, but i love working. i wish i didn’t love working but i love to work to prove myself. i thought going into this tarot journal i’d be a little more coy about my material life, but that’s quite pointless here. i’m a theater major. i did 8 full productions and 3 workshops/readings this year. it certainly doesn’t help that this is an industry and a culture that rewards that kind of masochistic work ethic. and i mean rewards; it’s resulted in good things for me, and my ambition is sated, but i’m faltering. like the page, i’ve been eager and earnest to my detriment; a naive self-annihilation.
2. stasis: 5 of cups
let’s just say holidays are hard for me and the witch closet is so so secondary to the real closet. i’ve had a rough time around this solstice. i see the 5 of cups a lot in readings i do for myself, so it’s familiar if not very comforting. i’ve been wallowing, mourning things in a way i think cannot be the best for me. i mourn youth, cockiness -- confidence in a narrative that doesn’t hold true as i look at my past. i don’t have a relationship to anyone i grew up with and recently did some highly reductive cyberstalking that shook me. it feels silly. i take this card seriously but also acknowledge a melodrama to it: crying over spilled milk. and i’m nothing if not dramatic. as for my environment? i’ve stayed off facebook and instagram. parents who parent are utterly foreign to me, so i suppose i mourn an image of family that has never been mine. for reference.
3. light: 8 of cups rx
i wouldn’t call this reading an upper, and however way i look at this card it isn’t obviously positive or light. but i’m glad to see it. i’m heading into my last semester of undergrad. i’m terrified of the future, and i think this being reversed reflects that. departure is necessary, but i’m so proud of what i’ve built for myself and dread leaving it. i think going into this new year i want to bring movement, the drive of the chariot, one of my birth cards; while the figure in the 8 of cups is reluctant, resigned, pained, they are moving.
ending on this note:
Witchcraft in the Hospital
For my witchy friends who spend varying amounts of time in the ER or Hospital for physical and mental reasons. May you all find something helpful or inspiring!
READ AND REBLOG THIS VERSION PLEASE!
Part One: What to bring.
Bring an altoids tin with things for “on-the-go” witchcraft, or create a travel altar. Keep it in your bag, just in case.
Keep mint gum with you - both for freshening up and for its magical properties.
Wear a crystal necklace.
Bring an electric candle for spells and a touch of witchiness.
A light-blocking mask with a sigil embroidered or painted on it to help with sleep/soothing headaches.
Make a little sachet with items that remind you of home/something nice. Add herbs, crystals, pieces of home, etc.
Rose water/moon water for cleansing yourself.
Scented wipes for a bit of glamour magic/staying hygienic.
Enchant fuzzy socks, earplugs, stuffed animals, anything really! Or enchant things for others in the hospital.
Poetry books.
Wear crystal jewelry specifically for helping with communication and getting the point across (fluorite, agate, lapis lazuli), clear quartz)
A list of symptoms and current medications (not witchy but helpful!)
Part Two: General stuff to do for longer visits.
Decorate pill bottles like potion bottles.
Incorporate the compounds and minerals in your meds into your craft.
Place intent into the color of your scrubs/outfits. Use color correspondences.
Get different types of teas from the cafeteria.
Use playing cards (or tarot cards) for divination.
Grab some sugar packets from the cafeteria for a little glamour magic if you need a pick me up.
Ground yourself regularly.
Do a bit of energy work.
Meditate, try dream magic or astral travel (if you can do it safely).
Say prayers to your deities to connect with them/to have them aide you through your stay.
Add sigils to the band aids they give you after poking around.
Braid your hair and use braid/knot magic for a speedy recovery.
Bless/enchant your meds or IV drip.
Create sigils!
Send positive energy to others. The man who is coughing in the other room. Whisper a blessing to the babies in the neonatal ward, etc.
Cleanse yourself while you’re then and when you get home to dispel the negative energies and spirits from the hospital.
Part Three: Things to take to help with witchcraft at home.
Alcohol wipes. Use them to remove old hexes/curses, wipe things away symbolically, gets rid of energies and brings them back to ‘neutral’.
Test tubes = storage and spell bottles.
Those little plastic baggies they have, perfect for small amounts of herbs or other random witchy things you find.
Take the scrubs home if you can. Cut them into bath bags or spell bags.
Swipe some salt or sugar packets from the cafeteria.
Gloves. They’ll always come in handy.
There’s more but I’m adding a cut so it doesn’t get too long!
Digging my workspace. It’s a work in progress, but I have my little desk altar. Inside the lantern is a blessed candle, rosebuds, chamomile flowers, carnelian stones for energy, Smokey quartz for soaking up negativity and some rough quartz for general energy amplification. In any case, I like the atmosphere.
