Zerner-Farber Tarot card backs
Potter’s Stepping Forward Spread
I developed this spread to do a reading for one of my followers, and I liked it enough to write it up. I’ve done it several times since then for in person readings, and usually works well. You can pull clarifying cards for any position if you want to layer on some additional information.
Where you are now: Where you stand now as you start this new thing.
Where you want to be: Your end goal, what you want to accomplish.
The path from Here to There: How you move forward, the steps you take, what you may have to deal with. You can pull additional cards for this position; I usually end up pulling two.
Something you need to see: Something to be aware of as you move forward, a conflict, challenge, or encouragement.
Advice - Your first step: Pull this card from the top of the deck. The first thing you can do that would be helpful, get you going. You may already know what this is.
Advice - Something you’re scared of: Pull this card from the bottom of the deck. The thing in the back of your head that you know will be helpful, but is kind of scary. Something to face and possibly accept.
I set it up so that the cards move from the bottom left of the spread to the top right, which represents forward movement to me. The final advice card is based on the idea of shadow cards, or the card you pull from the bottom of a deck during a reading. It’s all about illuminating that Thing or Thought niggling in the back of your brain as you contemplate this new path.
Let me know what you think or if you have any questions. I’d love to see how other folks read using this spread. If you do, be sure to tag #coffeeandtarot or #stepping forward spread!
