Sprigbox – The Easiest Way To Garden For Millenials?

Growing plants isn’t necessarily hard, but it isn’t easy either. Depending on the type of plant, you have to worry about the growing medium you use, the type of water, the number of seeds, and the pot in which you plant it. Sprigbox hopes to simplify this process entirely.

With a plethora of choices like lavender, strawberries, chili’s , and even hops for beer, Sprigbox allows anyone to start their own complete garden for as low as $9.99.

About The Brand

To try out Sprigbox, I decided to start with rosemary and lavender. With basil and mint already growing in my indoor garden, I figured rosemary and lavender would be the perfect addition to spice up my tea

They didn’t have a crazy amount of choices, but the options that they did offer were certainly interesting – like the Chocolate Flower or Mimosa.

The packaging is super minimalistic (which I love) and took only around two weeks to arrive. When it does get to you, the simple wooden boxes are wrapped in a small strip of paper which details which plant you bought and the instructions to plant it.

Sprigbox Review

So awhile back I did a review on Healthy Surprise, a monthly subscription box service. It was the first box of its kind that I tried out, and I must say I was pretty pleased. This month I went a little overboard and ordered 3 more subscription boxes. One of the one's I ordered was from Sprigbox.com, a fairly new company with a similar mission to Healthy Surprise. The price was slightly lower, $55.95 for "The Snacker" size, but also slightly less servings (25-30). Luckily, I had a discount code and got it for even cheaper! 

Anyway, I ordered my sprig box at the end of June, and it shipped out on July 10. I got it within 3 days. Talk about fast shipping! All the meanwhile, I had been communicating with the Sprig staff via Twitter and Facebook. They answered all my questions within minutes and seemed very eager to please. I like that they are always available and willing to engage with their customers. 

Upon opening the box, I was thrilled to see it was packed with delicious looking snacks, all of which I had never heard of (with the exception of one). One of the things I look for in a monthly subscription box is that it provides products that are new and unfamiliar. I don't want a box of snacks I can buy at Whole Foods or Stop & Shop. So this was a major plus. 

Overall, I got 16 individual snacks, some of them having more than 1 serving. I calculated the price of the snacks to see if I really got my money's worth.

(2) Caveman cookies $1.82

(1) Bumble Bar in chai almond $1.99

(2) Simple Squares in Cinnamon Clove and Coconut $5.00

(1) package of Hail Merry raw pecans in chimayo chile $5.79

(1) package of Hail Merry "grawnola" in orange cranberry $3.49

(2) Veggie-Go's, one mountain berry spinach, the other sweet potato pie $2.78

(1) bag of Peeled organic dried fruit (fig, date, and apricot) $3.33

(1) bag of Shagbark Seed & Mill corn tortilla chips ???

(1) bag Go Raw carrot cake super cookies $5.49

(1) bag R.A.W. coconut macaroons $9.00!!

(1) bag Popghum popped sorghum in grey sea salt flavor $2.94

Without the tortilla chips factored in, the total came to $48.58. I would say the chips add about $3 dollars, so that's pretty darn close to the 55.95 cost. Even so, most of these snacks you can not order individually. I think having the variety chosen for you adds to the value of the box. For me, I don't want to order 18 of the same snack bars. 

  Right now, I have only tried a few of the snacks. The first thing I tried was one of the caveman cookies. It had a strong cayenne flavor to it. Not a big fan of spicy cookies, but it wasn't terrible either. I am on the fence about these.

The Bearded Brother's energy bar on the hand, was DELICIOUS. I took it on the plane with me, knowing I'd be hungry 2 hours into the flight. When I opened the packaging I was disappointed to see how small the bar was, but the taste made up for the size. I was nice enough to share half with my boyfriend. (I really didn't want to). 

The last snack I tried was the coconut flavored Simple Square. The bar was moist and sweet. I love that this company only uses 5 ingredients in their products. It was a perfect sized bite.
