Could Serbia become the perfect destination for van life? With so much of this beautiful country laying wild and un-trodden with unrestricted access to its National Parks, Serbia might just be the PERFECT country for travelling in a campervan!
In this episode, we explore the wild Western fringes of Serbia, opting for gravel and mud over tarmac (as if we had a choice!) and driving through some of Serbia's many abandoned ghost villages.
This mesmorising landscape offers many delights but also offers us a reminder of the stark reality for many Balkan countries; depopulation. This detrimental side effect of low wage countries leaves a large impact on many rural areas in the far reaches of Eastern and Southern Europe as people migrate West for work.
We also discover the damage that hydropower plants can cause to human life in Tara National Park as we witness firsthand the devastation caused to a village by the sudden draining of a reservoir here in April 2019.
Finally we reach the perfect park up overlooking one of Serbia’s most beautiful sights: Lake Zaovine, the glittering heart of the Tara National Park.
Oh and don’t forget your weekly dose of cuteness as Lucy rescues a stray kitten stuck in a bin and reunites it with its family.
