Who knew someone wouldn't ship Jancy, not because Jonathan is a fucking creep, but because Nancy...waited for Jonathan to pursue her (IN THE 80s) making her an entitled bitch? Looooool

First of all I love it sooo much when I express my opinion and the people who don’t agree anonymously come into my inbox! Second of all I never said Jonathan wasn’t a creep… I actually had a whole rant (before season 2 came out) about why I shipped stancy rather than jancy. My main point was that Jonathan was wrong when he took pictures of Nancy without her knowledge. Obviously my opinions on stancy changed once season 2 came out, so I discarded that rant. I planned on making a jancy rant with the pictures being a main point, but when I was asked why I didn’t ship it, I quickly answered with reasons from season 2. What Jonathan did was creepy and weird, and I hated how they never made Nancy show real discomfort or have a full conversation with Jonathan about what happened. Like I know he apologized, but it would've taken me longer to forgive him. She had every right to think he was creepy, so I don’t know why they made them get into a relationship so quickly after that. Also Nancy literally cheated on her boyfriend for a “creep” so that’s the reason I don’t love and praise her character like everyone else. She never expressed to steve how she felt, and it really bothered me. Not the fact that she was “entitled”. I never even said that. So to answer your “question” I don’t ship jancy because Jonathan was totally wrong in what he did AND because what Nancy did to Steve wasn’t right either.

Edit: yes, I updated this rant. I know that many of you pointed out that Jonathan DID apologize to Nancy, and you're totally right. All I meant was that I thought Nancy should've taken a little longer to be so comfortable around him.

So you like Steve now better than Jonathan? And also do you ship jancy?

Yes. I like Steve better than Jonathan. I always liked Steve a lot, but he’s definitely my favorite character. I love Jonathan still, but in season 2 there was a lot more going on with Steve and I just really love his character. Also I don’t ship jancy.

Opinion on Stranger Things use of Death Fake-Outs

I know people in the GA tend to complain about the repeated use of death fake-outs in Stranger Things, but I think some fail to recall that this was a common trope used in a bunch of the 80s/Modern movies they reference (Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Star Wars, LOR, Halloween, Nightmare of Elm St., etc.). I think it’s perfectly fine to not to like this trope, but I don’t think it’s fair to call the decision lazy. I think it’s clearly an intentional creative choice.

Death-fake outs also became popular as a technique for building tension, creating emotionally impactful moments, and subverting other tropes. I personally don’t mind them if they’re done well, I think Hopper’s is the only one I would nitpick a tiny bit, as it probably would have been more satisfying in the moment if we hadn’t gotten the hint to his whereabouts in the post-credit scene. However, I think this also fits in with S3’s theme of things “hiding in plain sight” and darkness/truth being obscured by palatable/commercial imagery. I also think it more than pays off in the end with Jane getting her real dad back in the same season her other “father” figure returned and died for good.

I’m fully expecting a death fake-out for Vol2 or the Finale. I think the parallels made between Harry Potter and Will set it up to be him, but the Duffer Brothers do like a plot twist so I’m not ruling out Mike either, or any of our older Teens in potentially Ep 5 or 6. I think the use of this trope satisfies the overall tone of the show which is hope in the face of evil, and I feel they’ve done a lot already to balance it with actual deaths that impact our MCs.
