ST 3 Emotional Ends I Wish Would Have Been Tied Up
1. Fricking Jopper. I want to believe that Joyce really really really loved Hopper. Yes, we see that she is sad and she cries at the end. But she’s like not really SHOOK. Like no super emotionally charged screaming with Bob. No part like where she almost faints and Mike has to help her up. You know, unless the theories are true about Hopper being alive and like, she knows it or has a lot of hope about it, then I don’t get why she’s not more upset?? Like what. the. actual. crap?!!!! Also, I mean, like so much accumulated trauma in her life (Will, Bob, Hopper) and she seems like too fine. What the crap.
2. Joyce and El. They loved Hopper and believe him to be dead but they don’t GRIEVE TOGETHER. WHY?! I really wish we could have seen Joyce go comfort and cry with El while El is reading the letter. Instead, we get Joyce, who is about to become El’s MOTHER FIGURE, standing in the doorway awkwardly saying ArE YOu oKaY? when El is clearly bawling over her DAD’S DEATH (supposedly) and then just leave her alone. And when she freaking saw El look for Hopper and realize he’s dead--she just stood there hugging her son like a coward instead of comforting El and being mutually comforted by her. They had heart to heart moments in the prior seasons. Not here. Not when they were needed the most. Total missed opportunities...
3. All the people of Hawkins who were apart of the Mind Flayer just straight up died. WHERE WAS THEIR FUNERAL?
4. ELLLLLLLL and HOPPPPERRRRR!.We fricking never get to hear her call him DAD!! Or feel guilty/apologize about the way she treated him in the beginning. I mean, if your adoptive dad died who you really loved and was the first parental figure to really take care of you, like, wouldn’t you be feeling guilty for your prior disrespect and stuff? I mean really people.
5. Ok, part of this point is long enough for another post, but I just wanted to say a little here. Like with my last point, the lack of apologies and reconciliation. Sure, we get some, like the party apologizing to Dustin, Mike apologizing to El. But after how lame everyone this season has acted toward everyone (seriously, like there is no good guy this time, RIP BOB), we don’t get the apologies and reconciliations that we know should be there. Jancy and Jopper were jerks to each other --where is the love, people? Where are the I’m Sorry’s? What about MIKE APOLOGIZING TO HOPPER??? What, we’re just gonna sweep it under the rug cuz Hopper feels bad because he sees Mike taking care of El? That doesn’t make things OK. And I mean Erica’s funny and all, but does anyone care about her absolute disrespect toward her elders (like my boy Hopper)? All these characters need REDEMPTION, RECONCILIATION, and FORGIVENESS.
Ok, that’s all for now. I need to go sort out my feelings again.
