I don’t care for STP for various reasons, but if De Lancie and Stewart can interact as their characters one last time I’ll take it. I just worry the writers won’t really “get” their relationship. I think the most likely scenario is that they’re in character but the writing won’t be up to par as before. It might lack that special magic touch it had before. Because if they mess up Q really bad, then they might as well not put him in the show. But if they DON’T include Q, that’s not good either.
I personally enjoyed STP (even though I whined and complained about it the entire time lol). It does have its problems and it definitely isn’t my favorite Trek but it was awesome to see Jean-Luc again, and the Troi family and Seven of Nine.
However I was... beyond disappointed with the finale. Q should have been there. It would’ve made so much more sense. I don’t know why they didn’t think of him as a way to resuscitate Picard. (I wrote a fix-it fic about this, a Qcard ending to STP if you will. In case anyone’s interested lol)
So naturally I’m hoping Q will be there in season 2. It never occurred to me that they might mess him up, or mess up his and Picard’s relationship (I suppose that makes me a hopeful fool, doesn’t it?) But you are so right. That’s definitely something that could happen. It’s certainly happened in the past. And the way things are going, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t “get” the relationship. It’s such a complex one, and like, subtlety isn’t exactly the STP writers’ forte. I think it’s reasonable not to expect too much (like you said, it might lack that special magic touch) which is, uh, fine I guess. As long as they don’t mess up the entire thing!!
So now I guess it’s “wow wouldn’t it suck if they didn’t include Q??” but also “wouldn’t it suck if they did include Q but he’s out of character??”
