What is under the black velvet underglaze this time? I photographed this guy at the Aquarium of the Americas in good ole NOLA. It was much easier to photograph there because no mosquitos to suck away my blood and it was air conditioned. Lazy photographer ways. As always I threw the platter on my #thomasstuartwheel, it's the only one I keep bat pins on because most of my other work is thrown directly on the wheel head. Once the platter has gotten to a nice leather hard stage I trim the foot and undercut it so that it can hang on the wall when not serving food. I then search through my collection of photographs to find one that calls out to be drawn. Then the horrible molestation of the platter commences with my pointy wooden stick, after which I clean it up with a tiny loop tool. The underglaze gets applied to the incised lines and then scrapped off with my favorite finger cutting metal rib.
