The Aeternae really love their home, Nexus, and in a rare occasion there are individuals who want to become Guardians of it. It is a position that is hard to describe, but its purpose is the protection of Nexus with the strenghtening of demonic abilities within. Sadly at the cost of some mental faculties and the ability to live like one used to, so far irreversibly - it is a kind of death to personality as well. The goal is to become an unparalleled controller or fighter for something the continent requires to maintain it's control of the ocean borders, to keep it's people fed, and the land hidden from those not allowed privy to this information and home's location. And they really put this energy into it for the sake of Nexus, or to be more specific, the area known as the Gate of Resurrection - a Monument of utility where the Flux travels through and has always settled the newly reborn back to the land. The Aeternae would do almost anything to keep the Gate of Resurrection protected, as it is their big secret, and destabilization or even destruction of this monument could do harm to the stability of the Flux. This stability was bought with Guardianship, of one or several fervent demon's blood, one of which is now part of the Gate until... whatever happens. There are many Guardians, ranging from the control of the skies from Guardian Archdemon Atma, to deep beneath the ocean waves a ship rending Guardian Leviathan to stop trespassers, to the Guardian Sun of Nexus Xiensolgana providing her sun to keep the lands warm and fields fed with sunlight... There are more, though some need names and better descriptions. Then there is the mystery of the character Starmaiden - the Aeternae and the other races speculate upon this strange entity, this absolutely confusing existence, yet find it hard to say for sure how she/they came to be. Some say they are born of the love of two already established Guardians, from the love of sky-bound Guardians Archdemon Atma of the Veil of Nexus and Xiensolgana the Sun of Nexus. Some wonder if they are born of the Flux in some manner, perhaps from accumulated deaths the stream made one more soul to inhabit the space around the planet, becoming it's spacebound watchful eye. Though there are more theories than that. Starmaiden is the largest Aeternae in existence, thriumphing over the size of Guardian Leviathan so many times it is impossible to properly calculate the difference. Many-a-demon have made the trip to the edge of space to meet them, and have confirmed the all too familiar sensation of a soul, with some familiar markings of one of them. They've grown kinship toward them, and allayed the fears of Truvae and the Haegnae of their thoughts of a possible threat. Starmaiden has proved to be a calm, and a little eeriely staring presence in the space, never approaching the planet too close, as just being too close can be destructive to Nidus. They seem to be able to listen to the inhabited world under them, and have learned forms of speech through whatever means they use to do it. The maiden comes to be at the edge of Nidus' space age, and remains a curious-and-dangerous friend to it's peoples. They definitely are not very relevant during earlier stories, like Borealis, being so far from space age. Yet they are fun to think about, even if it is a few paragraphs off to a side tangent. I really don't like that reference drawing of Starmaiden though, they are difficult todraw.

It is obviously a reference to that one post from long time ago living rent-free in my brain on occasion - someone speculating about space mermaids and such. The idea of them caught my heart then. More to come!
