Personal Supernatural Fic Rec List
Part Seven. You know the drill. Previously there were Parts One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six.
1. The Suckers
In a revenge prank gone too far, Michael and Lucifer trap Castiel while transformed and send him off to a neighboring town. Castiel, unable to use magic and in need of sustenance, has to rely on his wits to charm two handsome suckers into taking care of him until he can figure out how to get back home. However, one of the brothers proves to be more difficult in charming than the other. Yelling, revenge plotting, and shenanigans ensue.
2. Familiarity Breeds Resentment
Dean is being stalked by a black cat.
3. O Captain, Not Our Captain
Chief Engineer Dean Winchester and Chief of Security Castiel Novak have quietly begun a relationship aboard a Federation ship regulated to peacekeeping missions. Running between planets for mainly diplomatic missions and supply runs, the men enjoy the peaceful nature of their job allowing them to explore their growing relationship secret to everyone but their Captain, Robert Singer, and the ship’s cook, Benny, Dean’s best friend. But a visit from Captain John Winchester under the guise of seeing his sons may throw everything into chaos.
4. Alley Cat
Dean tries not to think of his daemon Raz as an inconvenience. He fails most of the time.
5. Fortunate Son
Dean and Castiel announce their engagement at a family meal only to find out that none of the Winchesters knew they had been dating for the past five years.
6. Somewhere Past Heaven
Dean hadn’t thought, when he’d finally gotten together with Cas, that he’d ever have to hide his shiny new relationship from his father. The man’s dead, for fuck’s sake. But then suddenly he is not so dead, and neither is Gabriel, or Jo, or Ellen. He’d probably be doing a better job saving the world from the Darkness if everyone wasn’t breathing down his goddamned neck.
7. Father Knows Best
When John wakes up alone in a field after spending years in Hell, he thinks he’s been given a second a chance. A chance to do right by his boys for once. A chance to protect them like he should have. So protect them he will — even from the horrific creature that’s weaseled its way into their lives that calls itself an angel of the Lord.
8. Should’ve Just Asked
Despite their age gap and differing social circles, Castiel has struck up a warm friendship with Mary Winchester, a wealthy widowed socialite. When Castiel needs a place to stay, Mary invites him into her house, where there’s loads of spare room. Castiel’s aware that they make an odd pair, but he doesn’t fully realize how things look to outsiders, especially to Mary’s eldest son. All Dean Winchester sees is that his mom has apparently hooked up with a hot young guy (who is totally Dean’s type) and that makes things…weird.
9. First Gentleman Wanted
President of the United States Castiel Novak is popular, charismatic, and knee-deep in campaigning for a second term. He’d be the ideal candidate if it weren’t for the fact that he hasn’t dated once while in political office. With his opponent’s relentless PR team calling him incapable of emotional commitment, Castiel’s staff decides to remedy the situation by finding their boss a fake, picture-perfect boyfriend. And when Dean Winchester enters the scene, he and Cas become America’s new favorite couple, except they’ve got a whole lot of history between them and complicated feelings to resolve.
10. If Angels Were Men
Castiel Novak was raised by a hunting father, but he left that life behind for college and a flower shop. When his father is killed by a demon, Cas jumps back in the game and finds himself constantly running in the presence of the Winchester brothers, who are searching for their own father. They seem to be everywhere he turns, and at some point they become friends, then a team, then, maybe, in the case of Dean Winchester, something more.
11. Let It Be
Dean Winchester’s life changed forever the night a demon appeared in his brother’s nursery and killed his father. As a hunter Mary is determined to protect her sons from the evil she has run from her whole life - the same evil that took John. But Dean also trusts his protection to the angel in a trench coat he talks to in his dreams. Through years of tribulation and uncertainty, the Winchesters (plus a corgi that might be magic and an angel that may not be real) must fight monsters, demons, and even fate itself to survive as a family.
12. Your Soul is Beautiful
Dean and Castiel meet for the first time when Dean is sitting in the Impala, ready to blow his brains out.
13. This is the World Now
Dean and Sam were given one wish to save the world. Just one time that Deus would Ex Machina for them. One wish to split between the two of them. Dean wanted the dead to come back and fight alongside them. It had been perfect — better than perfect — with their mom. Wouldn’t it be great if Dad and Bobby and Ellen and Jo and Ash and Rufus and Kevin and everyone they’d ever lost came back? But Sam beat him to the punch. He asked for everyone in the future to be safe from monsters.
14. Queen of Nothing
Deanna couldn’t make it work with Lisa and left with Cas when he showed up in Indiana. Now she’s got a thousand empty spaces where Sam should be and Cas has a thousand more where Heaven should be, but the job is the job and the road is the road and they’re in it together.
15. 25¢ pocket guardian angels
Dean walks into his local bank one day and notices that someone has filled the old gumball machine with these tiny, wiggling, sentient angels in individual plastic packaging. Deeply concerned about their air supply and the fact that they’re trapped there in the sun, he starts pumping in quarters to rescue them. This is worse than leaving a dog in an overheating car. Now he’s got forty of the little guys running all over his house, and god knows how many others might be trapped and dying all over the city.
Nothing on this list is recent. There’s this post that more or less explains why I’ve stopped searching out new Destiel fanfic. I’m not very much in love with the show anymore, either. I still have subscriptions for a few ongoing stories, but this will likely be my last fic rec list for the Supernatural fandom.
