It always crushes my soul a bit whenever I watch these two scenes. Like, kirk looks so happy and he’s excited he’s about to go on his first actual adventure with his favourite people that doesn’t hold high stakes and is immediately shut down by Spock’s inability to disobey his moral code even in the face of his and kirks relationship. Which, you can tell, is just a huge slap in the face to kirk. But even then he tries to accept Spock’s moral dilemma and make ammends, which is also quickly shot down when Spock doesn’t have the ability to understand and respond to kirks offered (metaphorical) hand. Or I’m over tired and reading too much into the scenes. Damn sleep problems‼️
