Lethal Foes of Spider-Man #4 (1993)
Guys… idk how this only just occurred to me now, but in s4: Strikeback, Tikki would’ve known that Marinette didn’t give the Dog to Adrien, because she knows Chat Noir is Adrien. Idk if she would’ve figured out it was Felix, but she definitely would’ve known that couldn’t be Adrien. (Ladybug already saw Chat earlier when fighting Strikeback while under the effect of Risk.)
And she didn’t think to warn Marinette about this?? (When she and Felix detransform to recharge in the sewer.) Like, I know she couldn’t say anything about him being Chat, but.. I definitely think there are easy ways to alert her, even something as simple as “hey, Marinette, there’s something off about ‘Adrien’” and explain it as kwami intuition or whatever. Even if Marinette doesn’t believe her, Tikki could at least get her to watch him closer (at the very least try). Heck, she could’ve told LB to tell Chat Flairmidable’s identity, so then the real Adrien knows what’s up and he can keep an eye on Felix! I know at this point she’s not so big on keeping Chat in the know, but I think she might’ve listened of her kwami insisted on this one specific thing.
Idk the feasibility of these ideas, but damn, Tikki, you coulda done something about someone you know was an imposter!! That basically makes the result of the Felix’s lie/bretrayal her fault in my eyes. Even if it wouldn’t have worked in the end, she should have tried something to prevent a disaster. (It doesn’t matter that she didn’t know what would happen, the fact that someone who lied about their identity and now has a Miraculous because of said false identity is enough to call action)
Though I guess this isn’t Tikki’s fault- she’s not real, she’s a character. The writers let this happen, and made their many-thousand year old character be a moron and let a villain become more powerful. Congrats guys, hope you’re proud!
Since you know both English and French, could you tell me if most of the words that end in -tion in English end similarly in French?
Because if that's true, then I think that's why all the kwami titles go like "kwami of -tion" or similar.
It makes for easier translation on world building information.
For the most part, yes! If you look at episode titles for S5 between English and French, you’ll see that they are almost identical, with a few accents here or there for that unmistakable ✨ French touch ✨.
Although, sometimes the meaning gets lost in translation! For instance, I don’t think native English speakers use “representation” very often to talk about a theatrical performance, whereas we do it all the time!
Since you’re here, have some of my favourite French dub facts:
“Flairmidable” is a pun that got lost in translation! In French, “flair” refers to a dog’s sense of smell.
In French, Strikeback is known as “Réplique”, which can mean both a counter-attack or a copy of something. This applies to both Strikeback themself, who can copy the heroes’ powers, and to Felix, whose ressemblance to Adrien is at the core of the episode!
I stand by the English dub on almost every other aspect, though. Especially the songs. Don’t get me started on the songs.
I’m going to talk about this scene for YEARS!!! I missed Ladrien sooo much 🥺🥺
seeing this ad while scrolling through felix's tag made me giggle silly
Something I love about “Strikeback” is the way it plays with the perception of Adrien and Chat Noir
Ladybug singles Chat Noir out as the only one who can’t be trusted with his power, while she makes a huge mistake in trusting Felix. Then, once he betrays her, she’s terrified to trust Adrien and Chat Noir becomes the place of safety for her
Flairmidable apologized to Strikeback, knowing it was just doing what it was created to do.
