@sinesalvatorem I do think that some of the “why does Trump eat that?!?!” criticism is justified. And @filmelf I think you’ll be interested in this spicy ketchup-flavoured steak discourse, so I’m tagging you too.
ISTR that Trump brags about never wanting to spend more than $10 at a restaurant and that he’s a lousy tipper. The guy’s a miser and he’s proud of it. And, like... he has so much money that he could blow $50 on food every day for two million years and never notice.
It’s pretty clear that Trump wants to spend his money on having more money and on looking like he has money to everyone else. Whether or not he manages it is... a matter of personal opinion.
As a person who believes in freedom of choice, I think he has the right to do this; whatever makes him happy. But as a person who doesn’t really assign high value to money other than “It lets me get nice things that I like when I have it!”... I do not like people who use money as a scoreboard to track human worth. Trump appears to. This is loathesome.
The thought process is less “he’s a billionaire and eats Poor People Food, scorn him”, “he’s a billionaire. he could have whatever he wants. he could be eating delicious, healthy food- food that I will never be able to afford- every day. Instead he’s eating garbage. in a way that means “I don’t trust the chef to cook this the way I want, so I’m going to drown it in ketchup.” And he’s proud of that and thinks that’s a status symbol, because he’s Cutting A Great Deal on his weird ketchup steak.”
There’s a difference there. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
Like, a lot of criticism of Trump is “he’s acting like a poor person’s idea of a rich person”. Which... is at least a little classist.
Making fun of Rich People for doing Poor People Things will not convince the people who have to do the poor people things that you’re right. It can get them to think that you’re acting against their best interests, especially if they’re already being steered that way by propaganda.
But like. ... At least some of the Poor People Things Trump does are prompted less by “liking these things in and of themselves” and more in his negative qualities, and where do you draw the line between making fun of his negative qualities and making fun of the Poor People Shit he does?
if you eat your meat cooked rare i hate you and youre gonna die young
If steak is anything other than well done it’s garbage
Thank you all for coming to my Ted Talk

My girlfriend liked her steak well done until she actually tried medium rare for once
See, that’s okay. At least the lesson was learned so she could grow as a person, instead of making the conscious choice to eat leather.
I like somewhere between medium and well-done. I can't get that at restaurants, but I can at laeast make it at home!
I believe the condition you’re describing is called “medium-well,” and as far as I know more restaurants can do it. But yeah, as long as it’s in the medium range, everything is fine. It’s when you cook it to the point it has no juice left that it’s no good.

every time I go to a restaurant with my mom she spends like 20 minutes going ‘OH MY GOODNESS HOW CAN YOU EAT THAT IT’S STILL A COW YOU’RE GOING TO GET DISEASES AND DIE’ it’s medium rare mom, chill.
Your mom needs to git gud at steak.

pls, rare steaks at most cause food poisoning. You’re right, though, well-done steak is an abomination
Okay, “kill you” may be a bit much, but I’m really bad at handling being sick, so it may as well be death.
