June 13th 1752, birth of English novelist, diarist and playwright Fanny Burney. Burney’s novels satirising the social pretensions of English aristocrats and the politics of female identity in the late 18th century, greatly influenced the writings of Jane Austin. In 1789 during the early days of the French Revolution Burney supported the Revolution’s aims, and met and married the exiled French General Alexandre D'Arblay, who had been adjutant-general to the Marquis de Lafayette. From 1760 to 1774 she lived with her family at number 50 Poland Street, which during the 18th and 19th century also housed other notable literary residents such as William Blake who lived at 28 Poland Street from 1785 until 1791, and Percy Byshee Shelley who lived at 15 Poland Street briefly in 1811. William Blake, Percy Shelley, and the events of the French Revolution are all depicted in the historically and steampunk based Industrial Sublime Tarot, a unique tarot deck based upon the years 1760 - 1848. Prints of the cards are for sale on the website.
