B E • B R A V E Again, my mantra for the year...and certainly applicable for today. First of all, I decided it was pretty warm out already for my long(ish) #run...so I was going #sportsbrasquad. It's definitely out of my comfort zone, but being comfortable while #running, was more important. Second, I was intending 10mi at a comfortable/easy pace...especially since I did the intervals from yesterday. I then decided however, #maytheforthbewithyou...so threw in 4mi hard, starting at mile 5️⃣. I actually debated doing this, and nearly talked myself out of it a couple times, but again, opted to #bebrave and go outside my comfort zone. I set my goal to be around 6:50-7:00, which would be around goal #halfmarathon pace, and felt decent. I felt like I glanced at my @garmin a little more than usual though, mostly because I wanted to make sure I wasn't overdoing it. It's a little scary to think of that pace for a whole half...but I'm working on it 😬 On my way home, I decided to stop by the pool for a second day, and get in an easy #swim...which was pretty much perfect...except for the fact that I had everything but a towel. I didn't allow that be my excuse though, and was glad I did it. For my #run, I once again tried really hard to hit the prescribed paces. I felt like I put in consistent effort, and was excited to see how it turned out at the end. Umm yeah, as if I didn't love the Distances already...these...SO comfy 😍 I did my long(ish) run the other day, so today could be more about enjoying a few miles with the boys + Lou-dog...so 4 was about our max, as it was still pretty warm. Decided I had to get in some miles today though...because it's back to work mañana...so I'm likely not #running til Saturday. T-2 days til @encinitashalfmarathon! Last "tempo" #run 😱 #runkeeper called for 20min tempo. I don't know if today was the ideal day to do it, but with my schedule, I decided today would work 🤔 I started with @runningforr3 and @lolabswank, as they were finishing up their run...and continued on solo, for my tempo. I planned to work into a controlled fast, but as usual wasn't sure how it would go. The last few minutes were challenging, but I feel pleased with today's run. Post run, I was able to get in a little float/swim, which felt pretty amazing...then headed over to the expo...which I may have failed at snapping any photos at 🙈...but I got to meet @racepacepups, who is also #running...and picked up some cool swag 🤗 Overall, this whole training cycle has been challenging but at times...and, maybe even fun. So the #runkeeper plan this week, was very similar to last week...which kinda worked out since I couldn't...didn't...do all the workouts to my full potential. With my schedule being what it is right now, I've decided I will do what I can, when I can...and modify as needed. This isn't ideal, and I don't know what that means for my #130project...but it's more important to me to stay healthy. I really like the way the plan is laid out, because it basically incorporates a #run every other day, and either rest or active recovery in between. My problem is finding the right kind of #balance. I know for some, getting up before work/whatever to get in their workout early, works. I've been there. I've done it. That was a different time though...and the thought of getting up even earlier, on top of working 12+ hrs, etc...doesn't seem to be the answer right now. On the flip side, coming home after working 12+ hrs...doesn't seem to be the answer either. That said, #running hard three days in a row, with "rest"/work days in between, also doesn't seem to be the answer...and I'm left with imbalance. Another goal of mine this year, aside from a faster #halfmarathon, is to include more cross training and more effort into active recovery. Again, the ultimate goal being, stay healthy and achieve balance. So, this week, I deviated from the plan a little.
